When others tell you how to live, check their references!
That's class jgnat! If I owned a vehicle i'd have a bumper sticker made up:) frog x
you've probably heard sentences that stuck with you.
quotes, one-liners.
you hear them and they make so much sense or touch you so personally at the time that they become part of you.

I said this to my mother once. Her answer? 'Don't think too much. Just believe it. That's what faith is.'
Those words are the essence of the foundation of the majority of the mainstayers beliefs. Just think of what proportion of the dubs have become to dulled in their senses and own power of reason to entrust the "FDS" so completely. I'd say it must be a huge proportion.
Gosh, I wish I could remember some of the classic lines that had a real and lasting effect on me, there have been plenty, but I've moved on and now just look back and laugh (whilst shaking my head). It was usually the subtle comments of complete ignorance that really stuck. frog x

what in hell is going on... .
Can understand your distress s4, especially when it is completely clear that the org is growing at a consistent rate when traditional churches are fading away. We know why they're growing though, fundamentalism (Christian) is attractive to people during time of rapid change and turmoil. Gives people a reference point to guide their lives, when traditional moral structures fall by the wayside, and a world of individualism takes its place. It's just very difficult to make a solid point to people attracted to the org/or who are currently in the org, when you go for the throat. Collectively as fundamentalists they will stand together to insulate their beliefs from outright criticism or from accepting a challenge to their beliefs through science and rational thinking. The only way I see that when can go about things is to approach it more subtley. I'm sure you know yourself that your faith began to come unstuck gradually when some small seeds were planted. Most people on the outside see the organisation for what it really is. frog x
i am so sick of witnesses reserving catchphrases for themselves.. talking to my wifes mother today she kept referring to "the friends".
"the friends came over today, we went to lunch with the friends".
well if they are "the friends", then what the hell are everyone else?
hey gg,
Maybe I will talk about "the truth" in reference to my athiesm. I think this could be really fun.
I think that's a super idea;) Although personally I think if they're yabbering drives you this nuts (and I can fully relate and understand that) then the best thing you can do for yourself is to get yourself away from it. Personally it makes me what to bash my head on a brick wall when I come into contact with typical dubspeak, just makes me want to slap the person to their sense. I do think though that it would rock their little worlds though to think that someone who once knew the "truth" could possibly see and feel as strongly about an alternative "truth". But don't let them get to you too much matey:) frog x
thought you'd like to know that today at 11 am pacific standard time, which was 1 pm tennessee time, i was interviewed for an entire hour by mark furman on 1510 kga, the big talker show, originating in spokane, wa, population 250,000. former jw, linda jahn, was interviewed from 12:00 to 1 pm.
all this attention to our cause originated from the disfellowshipping and shunning of joel jahn in davenport, wa, a few months back.
at that time joel wrote a letter to the local davenport newspaper explaining the wt disfellowshipping policy used against him because he spoke out against the religion's child abuse policies.
Barbara and Linda rock my world! You guys have a done a tremendous and valuable thing, bringing a little bit of community awareness on a side of an issue that the WT org would rather keep silent. Why should we conform to their policies of silence when we leave the org and not give a defense for our actions, it's our right, and an important perspective for others to see.
Good on you both, you should be very proud that you spoke for us all:) frog xx
the examining the scriptures daily 2006 has been released.
the jw rites of surprise and expectation over the new year's text are now at a fever pitch.
it seems that the theme "godly obedience" was such a hit at the 2005 district conventions, that the governing body has served up an extra helping.
oh gosh now that's a reminder of long forgotten things, the ye ol yeartext. I remember as kids we used to speculate excitedly about what that yeartext would be for the year!! clearly we had very low excitement thresholds, how sad;) Thanks for that I will be sure to obey nobody now through all of next year frog x
do you like yogurt?
i like to eat a little of it everyday.
it is kind of expensive and a hassle to deal with all the containers in addition to getting to the grocery store which is 15 miles away.
Moo Goo?? If it wasn't for the intriuging title I'd never have come on to this thread! Sounds pretty yum, and good acedpholis for your tummy. I try to steer clear of too much moo anything, I tend to think that milk lactose is for baby cows. But I won't argue that moo goo (especially home made) tastes great frog x
for those of you who will be disgusted that i even attended the meeting, let alone allow my son to give his first public talk tonight, please, spare me the shouting messages.
i take full responsibility for what i experienced this evening.
yet, i feel the need to share this experience that has me enraged.
You're a real solider FMW:) Don't regret that you went or that it might have been confusing to your son, you can make it up to him, and this sort of affirmation was in a twisted way quite positive for you, and in time you will have problem explaining it to him. You take full accountability which is really important, now you can move on and leave the insolent and ignorant behind. Just think you will NEVER have to set foot in another KH again. Never again will you allow yourself to be subjected to their harmful doctrine, you're so powerful and in control:) luv frog x
so i finally decided to get my a** to the library and read some real research on cults.
the book i'm starting with is "psychodynamic perspectives on religion, sect and cult.
in the introduction they mention margaret thaler singer's definition of a destructive cult as an organization in which:a leader claims divinity or special relationship with god.
Q: Sect or Cult?
A: Cult
to dear horrible life.
jwd's ever reliable birthday greeter!.
here is wishing you a splendid birthday.
:)))...oh yes the revenge stage, I still momentarily relapse into that on occassion even a few years down the track. It's a just another avenue of venting your anger and hurt, pretty harmless if it lessons with time. Tis good though to hear that you're learning to let go, but after 10months it's all still pretty raw, so you shouldn't let yourself feel that you're going backwards if you have a few relapses. I don't think there could possibily be a greater test of strength and character than that which we all here have been through:) xx
