Richland is a pretty cool area. I lived in Kennewick for a little over a year. There are a couple of people on this site from there.

I suppose I should stop lurking,
by SacrificialLoon inand introduce myself.
i was raised in "the truth", and for the longest time it was all i knew.
i spent my childhood going through all the things that other witness children went through; not celebrating holidays, not standing up and reciting the pledge of allegiance, not going to school events, or associating with "worldly" children much.

WELCOME SacrificialLoon!
Either go with IE or just manually add your own html tags for line breaks. (I do the manual thing)
Many here identify with your situation, and congrats on putting some physical distance between you and your family. I can testify to the fact distance helps alot.

CHANGE IN RESURRECTION DOCTRINE?
by Mary inok, this is from the january 1, 2007 craptower.
page 25 is the study article called "the first resurrection---now under way".
it's too boring to type all the stupidity written, but here's a brief synopsis of where they come up with the brainiac idea that the first resurrection occurred in 1918 onwards:.

What they like to do is write these vague articles like this and then refer BACK to this article sometime in the future when they make the official change.
That is what they did in 1995 with the generation change.
That way it sounds like they have had some sort of "inkling" that a change was on the horizon, and it makes it seem less of a severe change.

My old KH had a personal visit from me today!
by moshe ini was on business in the area of my old congregation ( i live out of state)- the one i first got baptized in back in 1973. they were just getting started on their discussion before service- it was 9:03 am and i just impulsively turned into the parking lot and decided to pay them a surprise visit.
i just walked into the kh and looked at them for 30 seconds.
i didn't recognize anyone and finally they asked me what i wanted.

Moshe said: "Moshe told them all to pay close attention to the study of the Jan 1 WT- "the society has all but admitted they never had God's spirit back in 1919""
Was there a discussion on here that I missed? Can someone fill me in on the article? Or point me to a thread?

I think the "I'm gonna put down my notes for a minute .." spiel is planned and deliberate. I imagine this will be used more in the future.

Do You Get Any Pleasure Out of the Holidays Since Leaving the Watchtower?
by jayhawk1 inyesterday was my crappy birthday, http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/20/127389/1.ashx and while the evening went along, i realized something.
i've been out of the watchtower for about 6 years now and i still don't enjoy the holidays or my birthday.
i can't recall one time saying to myself, "wow, that was so much fun.

As we get older birthdays aren't as exciting (even for non-JWs) because once you get past like 25 it's not exciting getting older anymore anyways. And, because you never had birthdays as a kid you probably don't have the residual excitement held over from your childhood to associate with birthdays to carry over into middle or old age. (Instead you have residual JW memories about John the Baptizer getting his head cut off.) Additionally, most people only usually have more indulgent and larger parties on age milestones (i.e. 40,50,60) and might have small personal celebrations with immediate family, maybe only a quiet dinner, - or maybe even no celebration at all - on the other years.
As far as other holidays, I celebrated holidays up until I was about 6 years old so I remember a few and the pure innocent childlike joy, the electricity of excitement on Christmas Day.
My wife (Freedomloverr) never celebrated holidays her whole life until last year. Initially she was skeptical about holidays and didn't really care. I didn't care for me but I looked forward to our kids getting to enjoy that childlike innocence. Since then Freedomloverr has really taken to the holidays and we use them as just one of many opportunities to make memories.
===
You need to ask yourself what you are looking to get out of the holidays. Are you expecting something from them that you haven't gotten? JWs built them up like they were these large indulgent occasions. However the majority of "the world" views most holidays as one thing:Time to spend with family creating memories.
I guess if you don't enjoy spending time with a family or you have no family to celebrate with, it could be depressing sometimes. When you first start celebrating holidays you don't really have a lot of memories, which can be depressting.
Maybe lower the expectations and get to know others better?

I agree completely. I wish more churches would understand this. Although I am not an organized religious person I would gladly team up with or help any church in exposing the JWs.

Question for the ladies.
by BrentR ini would be interested to hear from the ladies about women that go after married men.
why do some seek them out over single guys?
i remember years ago reading an article about them but i do not remember much.
-
ithinkisee
I have known a couple of women that preferred married men.
The reasons?- The man usually didn't want a relationship - just sex - so it never got complicated.
- The guys were usually very experimental in bed because they wanted to do things their wives would not.
