How much of a Witness are you? Take the quiz!
by AlmostAtheist ini've wasted most of a day putting this quiz together.
it's only 10 questions, please give it a go and see what you get!.
if you think it could make a decent anti-witnessing tool, i might dress it up with links to the quotes site and the watchtower site to prove the accuracy of the points made.. if you see any inaccuracies or misleading comments, please let me know.. url = http://www.thebentinel.com/jw-quiz.php (embedded below).

I'm 20% JW. LOL, I've never been a witness either (never wanted to be either). Guess that 4 door car put me in the game. Hey, I've got kids, I need the space!

Are some people REALLY better off in high-control groups?
by seattleniceguy inin holly's good-bye thread, quotes mentioned that he felt that some people were better off in high-control groups.
i've heard othes say similar things.. but i have a difficult time with this.
is it not true that high-control groups stiffle a person's emotional and intellectual development?

I think that there are people who are better off within a high control group. Some people just don't have the wherewithall to 'do it on their own". They really need that structure, and organization in order to maintain a semblance of normalcy. Without it they would completely crumble. Once you have been "trained" within that type of organization, for many it may well mean finding, or having that, throughout their lives in one manner of another. In that manner, they don't have to think for themselves, or make any major life changing decisions for themselves, as it's all basically done for them. If somewhere along the lines there is a bump in the road, they have someone else to take care of it for them, and they can continue along blissfully without worry that "they" made any wrong choice, because they have left all the choices up to others.
It reminds me of the Shawshank Redemption, when Red is finally out of prison, and all he can think of is going back, because the daily routine of having everything planned out for him, without his having to even think of anything is so ingrained in who he is, that it's hard to break free of that. He can't get used to not having to ask to take a piss, since for nearly all of his life, it's all he's known, and even after being told he doesn't have to ask anymore, he's free to go when he needs to, he just can't seem to do that. Many don't want to break free of that control, and would be unable to handle it if they did. Now that doesn't mean I think there is a large percentage of people who are that way, in fact I think it would be relatively few, but I do believe that they are out there.

I guess I will never understand the deep rooted belief in an organization that tells you one thing, then changes their mind over and over again. To say you are offering the "truth" and then that "truth" constantly changes over time would really seem to be a clue that they aren't honest. For me, when I started looking at this religion, the biggest clue was "don't question". When anyone ever says that to me, well, I start questioning immediately. I see it as if you can't stand to have something questioned, then you are hiding something.

Study conductor claims the "WTS is not the FDS"...and other JW affirmations
by M.J. ini am currently following the ongoing saga of a person who is studying to be a jw and her unbelieving husband's attempts to sway her in this endeavor.
he has gotten her to read cofc and she's halfway through it, but nonetheless, she remains bound to the jws and wants to continue her persuit.
he has tried to call into question that the wts could have been appointed by jesus as the "faithful, discreet slave", but the person she is studying with flat out told her that jws do not believe that jesus chose the wts as the fds and, that they don't believe that they are the one chosen religion/church.

It does not say that, of course. Wise up.
So you claimed earlier that the WTS "IS" the faithful and discreet slave, and that is what they claim, are you both liars? Or do you both make false claims? If it's not a biblical based belief (how can it be if it's not stated in the bible) then it's a false belief correct?

JW Underground
by Hondo ini recently read an article about jw's that, if had the choice, would probably leave because of the deceptions, lies, etc., but don't because of family, friends, prestige, whatever, and instead lead a make-believe life going through the motions of being a loyal and believing follower of the watchtower organization.
most of those purported to be part of this non-believing/participating, but attending, jw population, are folks that have been associated with the jw's for a number of years, but, as many have, decided that the lies and constant changes (new light) just don't make sense anymore.
i would suspect that identifying those who just "go through the motions" of being a good jw would be difficult.

The proof is in the pudding, my friend...
From the Watchtower site:
A person should make sure that his beliefs can be supported by the Scriptures, for there is only one true faith.
So where in the scriptures does it say that the WTBTS is the Faithful and Discreet Slave?

Has Anyone Got Any Proof That The Society Monitors Apostate Web Sites?
by slimboyfat ini am extremely skeptical about this, yet people on this forum seem to talk about it as though it were a fact.
so has anyone got any actual concrete proof?
here are the reasons why i don't think they do:.

It is not up to me to prove that you are wrong (sheeesh). It is up to the person who makes the claim to offer the PROOF for the claim.
I hope you guys never end up in court! By your logic you would have to prove to the Jury that you are innocent!!!
Come on, does no one have any PROOF for this claim???
Actually the claim was made that the society moniters apostate websites and that was proven with the whois lookup of the name shown. You claimed there was no proof and it was provided to you. Then you claimed that the society didn't authorise such a thing, so you should be able to back that claim up correct?

The wbts IS the faithful and discreet slave. Tell him he is wrong!!!
For someone who says they aren't defending the wtbts it sure does seem like you are.

But there is still not any proof, even if someone in Bethel did visit the site (is that wtbts ID is from Bethel), that they were authorised to do so!!!
There is NO PROOF!!!
How do you know that whoever visited the site wasn't authorised to do so?
