i was wondering if anyone else has had a hard time making friends since leaving the organization.
being raised as a jw, it seems difficult to me, as i was never allowed to have any friends who weren't other jw's.
as a result, i have isolated myself to only my immediate family.
Wow...how grateful i am for this thread....I too was brought up in the 'truth' as such...it doesnt teach you much social skills i can tell you...I can totally understand and appreciate where you are coming from on this one.
College and University helped me too....it helped to build a wide social network and slowly but surely if you take an interest in people they (if they are genuine) will take an interest in you...i now have a loving fiance...two closest friends ever...and a wide social circle of friends surrounding these.
It does take effort....but it comes...keep going keep positive.

" pretty much sums up what service is about for most witnesses... i always prefered a good conversation, even at a young age... but the pat on the back always came from making placements... especially if it was a book!.
Hmmn.....i was asked whether i had managed to witness to anyone at school....yeah right....that would a crash course on how to get a broken nose where i was educated...naturally like most fine and upstanding christians i lied...and said that i had some fruitful discussions....about what i didnt tell them..!!!

i stumbled onto it by accident and stupidly never noticed that it said discussion forum, everyone welcome.
i just thought it was a site where witnesses discussed subjects, and did not expect such a negative response to my naivety.
i understand that you are studying with Jehovahs Witnesses and that is a great position to be in...i am not about to discourage you from doing so and neither am I disfellowshipped or disassociated...just inactive also like many others with family still in the organisation.
I wish you well in your studies however i do have some advice for what its worth....an old professor at law told me very early in my career to 'accept nothing until its proven'...you strike me as intelligent and capable of subjecting the information you receive to some level of criticism...do this...constantly question...ponder...check...assess...and not just from one source...this will aid your decision making...enjoy your studies...hope to speak to you when you pop by once in a while...

i'm a director of marketing for a telecom company and travel the country constantly, different city and state every three months or so.
part of the job is "having" to take people out for drinks and dinner, etc all the time.
thanks for the welcome...no doubt there will be a lot of us there in heavens hell......how will i know you?!!
i've never been jw myself but my best friend is, so i'm very interested in this organization.
i'd like to talk about it with people who can understand me because they (or friends or family) were jw.

Welcome...this could be interesting...never really heard of someone posting from the viewpoint of a friend of a JW....you see JW's are normally 'spoken to'/'counselled' about having friends outside the organisation...hope to see you round....

i am a baptised jw and am wanting to disassociate myself.
i am looking to find someone who has left this org to give me some idea on the letter to write and how they dealt with their friends who shunned them
I am of the fade away brigade...so havent had the experience of being DA'ed or Dfshpd...but this is a tough decision....i think you need to remember that true friends are those that stick by you...no matter what you believe or do not believe...since leaving the organisation i have found some truely fantastic friends...make them...keep them close to your heart...
If people are prepared to turn their backs on you...they werent friends at all...just mere acquaintances...

Totally...dont get me started on this....i was prevented from pursuing my career as a lawyer for years...until of course i left...now im on track...your right though...it does prevent you from going places either academically or commercially...
