Levellers... Another Mans Cause
Levellers rock, they sing about freedom with attitude...and theres something quite appealing about the fiddle being played to a guitar riff.

The actual turning point -- where you regain your own power
by JustTickledPink ini have done a lot of thinking about what it's like to actually believe the wts has "the truth" and what it felt like to be immersed in the religion and i finally figured out the exact turning point a person has to get to, that allows a person to let go of it all.. it doesn't matter what scandals you read about, what sort of a victim you were to the society, it doesn't even matter if you quit attending meetings years ago.
there comes a day when you finally realize inside your heart and throughout your mind that it's just a religion.
not "the truth," not "inspired by jehovah god," but in fact just a religion.. i started thinking about it in terms of a profession.

Those who think they have power are the ones who eventually lord it over others in some way. Those who realize they are powerless and strive to remain that way in all their thoughts and intentions are usually the ones who allow the rest of the world to walk all over them.
Barney whilst I respect your point here its a little too cynical.
I think trevor has the right idea here.
Power isnt negative but the abuse of power is, when you use the power to the expense of other people this is when the positive becomes negated by all that is rotten. Using your own power to achieve positive results for yourself and others is to be encouraged and advocated but in all honesty the whole idea that power corrupts everything it comes into contact with is somewhat shortsighted.

WHAT'S THE WORST JOB YOU EVER HAD?
by Mary inthe worst one i ever had was working in a frozen chicken factory.
there were about 30 of us in a freezing cold room and my shit job was to feel the half-frozen chicken breasts up, to see if there were any little bones in them.
well after the first 5 minutes my frigging fingers were frozen stiff, so i couldn't tell if there were any bones in there or not........after 20 minutes it felt like my hands were having an out of body experience and if they weren't in front of my frozen face, i would've thought they had dropped off.

The worst job I ever had was a job selling books door to door (think I might have worked for the same conglomerate Gary worked for). As an induction they completely immerse you in water in front of hundreds or thousands of other sales people which was really embarassing.
Anyway I couldnt sell very many of these books, we werent even asking for that much either, just a sum to cover printing and overhead costs; in the end the company even decided to offer them for free but made me still buy them and like a mug I did. The hours of work were really crap, Saturday mornings were a prerequisite and sometimes Sunday afternoons. I decided that I wanted to go to University and they forbade me from doing so, they thought it would stop me
sellingbuying so many books. They even stopped me from going to play rugby of an evening with my friends because again because it would stop mesellingbuying their books. Then disaster struck again, it came to light that half the stuff in the books was wrong anyway and they had to republish the books and yet again force us to go out and sell them; it wasnt easy I can tell you even when they were free. They have a terrible aftersales policy because even after you have bought their books for so many years you find that when you decide to no longer buy their books, they get all your so called friends (who are also sales people) to ignore you and shun you as though you were a leper....definately the worst job i ever had.

What kind of Apostate are you?
by diamondblue1974 ini've been on this site now for a little while and think its brilliant and its been a tonic in getting things straight and for gathering research.
(thanks simon & ang).
in fact its difficult to get work done during the day because of reading posts on here.. a couple of months ago if someone wouldve asked me whether i was apostate i would have flatly refused partly because the indoctrination still has its effect even after a decade and the negative connotation attached to the word 'apostate' is still at the back of my mind.

Things are very different now though and my opinions are changed on this point; I am considered an apostate and I am actually quite proud of the fact that I have had the opportunity to get out and find myself (apologies for the cliche) and find my own beliefs based upon my own research.
I personally believe that i'am quite a liberal apostate which broadly means that whilst i dont see a personal need to stand outside and picket conventions, I am prepared to tell state my opposition to the WTS and its publishing empire...
This leads me to the question, what kind of apostate do you consider yourself to be?

Did The Elders Treat You With Respect & Love???
by minimus ini know there's a lot of elder bashing here.
most of it is quite justified.
i'm curious as to whether all your dealings with the elders were horrible.

diamondblue1974
My take on this issue mirrors the majority here; I remember a few good ones but as Blondie said they find themselves being treated badly themselves by the more predatorial ones. Absolutely spot on...

Well as a born and bred JW I have always felt deep down that my opinions are wrong, that my advice is wrong that basically what I think isn't worth the brain cell its imprinted on. So guys, to have two people say they agree with something I have said from my heart touches me immensely and makes me feel - well valid, worth something. I just wanted to say how much that meant and sorry I didnt mean to go all mushy and emotional on you.
Like you said in your post Crumpet, its typical of how we are meant to think as 'fine upstanding christians', it was refreshing for me too to find this site and find thousands of similar minded people.
Heres to an increased self esteem!

demon attack in Kingdom Hall
by Noumenon in.
i once heard about a sister that was having a lot of trouble with demons, and apparently she had a bad demon attack in the kingdom hall.. anyone else heard of such a thing?
so much for the house of jehovah being some sort of refuge.. i have also heard of a witness who still experienced a demon attack despite calling out jehovah's name aloud.
