Has the HLC given up for the most part ?

I have seen this too. A couple who are close friends have a 20 month son who needed a transfusion desperately (he has Leukaemia) and the HLCs advice was to provide consent for a transfusion. The rationale was that the hospital would likely be successful in making the child a ward of court and be able to transfuse anyway; the only problem being is that by then he would probably have died. It was far better to allow the hospitals discretion now so that his life would stand the better chance of being saved.

Personally, (although I would never voice this to them), I think this is indicative of the society's indirect change in policy on blood to avoid litigation!

the february 15th watchtower 2007, is spectacularly nauseating!!!

at least i found it so.. i would welcome the opinion of all on the board to this sentiment on page 19, paragraph 8 and9:.

'although subjection can be challenging, women can welcome it as honorable, even as did jesus.

Significantly, however, it is not only when women marry that they come under the headship of men.
'The Bible explains that women, whether married or single, should submit to the headship of spiritually qualified men who exercise oversight int he Christian congregation.

I think the above says it all; whilst previously single women were not in subjection to anyone, this has clearly changed and it would now appear that whether married or single she is to view the elders as her head.

Or have I completely missed the point?

I was always a fan of Metallica too although they did taper off towards their 'load' and 'reload' albums; nice to see them return to form with 'St Anger' though.

In the 80s I also used to listen to W.A.S.P, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Dokken, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmstein, Guns n Roses, Blue Oyster Cult (although they were more 70s). I am sure there was many more but cannot think of them.

page 18 is the pathetic craptower article, telling women (who have apparently gotten above themselves) that they must be "obedient" to their husbands.

the entire article is nauseating, and obviously written by bitter old men who have major issues with the opposite sex.

i'm not going to write the whole thing, but here's a few 'highlights':.

The fact that in 2007, these stinking old goats are STILL encouraging women to put up with physical, mental and emotional abuse by their husbands, is truly PATHETIC. How many women at the Hall get the shit beat out of them, or watch hubby beat their kids just before they all pile in the car to go to the Meeting? What is that teaching the children?! How do these morons sleep at night after writing this kind of trash?!

Completely agree Mary; again it falls back to the same treatment being meted out to women as it has over the decades 'women should put up and shut up whilst men can behave how they wish and treat them how they please'

It stinks.

Par 12: (this really pissed me off): "...Peter indicated that some unbelieving husbands--- even those who are abusive --will become Christians after observing the submissive conduct of their wives. We have seen evidence of this happening today.

I have seen some evidence of this at the congregation I used to attend.

A friend of my mothers had an 'unbelieving husband' and lived in a 'divided household' which was abusive; he used to set fire to her publications (although normally I can actually see the sense in this with hindsight); he also used to do the same with her meeting clothes and regularly beat the shit out of her when she returned home from the meetings. Not only this but he used to regularly rape his daughters and one of them even bore a child to him. (Imagine having your daughter call you grandad?)

Never once was she advised to leave him (except from my mother) and never once was she provided with any additional support from the elders given this horrific situation; she stayed with him throughout.

But hey this is where Jehovah blesses her; he eventually started to show an interest in the meetings and jehovahs witnesses (generally about the same time he was infirm and needed more assistance with day to day living) and low and behold he was baptised as a Jehovahs Witness sometime later after having a study and could be regularly seen being pushed around in his wheelchair on the ministry by his loving wife and whoever else volunteered. The ministry group used to meet at his house too, so he had lots of children round him regularly. How blessed she was.

What blessings she received from being faithful throughout all that adversity; what blessings the congregation received in that yet another paedophile and wife abuser was allowed into the congregation without such a mention to those who had children in order to protect them.

You must have done some considerable research to use terms such as 'disfellowshipped' and other aspects of JW lingo; this will no doubt help your friend as communicating with him on this level with terms he is used to hearing will prevent his barriers from shutting down permanently.

When I was single my sister told me that I was subject to her husband, as he is the spiritual head of our family (Dad isn't baptised).

I bet that worked a treat LOL.

I find it increasingly frustrating why women allow themselves to be subject to anyone, especially in this day and age of increasing equality and liberation.

What I'm hoping is though I may never achieve things that I want to achieve, I can help expose the Watchtower for what it is along with so many others on this board and others. So, I have a new mission in life.

Its never too late to start achieving what you want to, however you do a great job of exposing the Wacktower - its a shame it doesnt pay as you would make a fortune !

Its good you have had the strength to speak to professionals regarding your WTS experiences as they do leave scars and they need to be dealt with, in my view this shows real strength and at least in comparing our scars we can help each other heal.

Is it purely to control sexuality or is it pure mysogyny?

Good question, I think both apply but I would err more on the side of mysogyny; we need to consider the people behind the organisation, their age, their background and upbringing. First of all whilst there are a number of educated people within the organisation, those in positions of authority generally are not but even where they are, they are pretty much of the older generation and whose views of women are generally outdated.

Those within the organisation who do not adhere to the biblical view of women and depart from it tend not to progress as that sort of person tends to be independent; even where such people do rise through the ranks, their lifespan in such position is limited as there is no place for independent thought within the organisation. Where such person has independent views but simply carries on regardless, he simply carries out the wishes of the collective in any respect and therefore no difference is seen.

The new breed of elders and ministerial servants are products of a time where education was scorned and have little or no higher education other than skills or trades (not at all minimising such employment) and as such are not critical and do not have the capacity, will or ability to properly evaluate what they are being asked to do.

Although I am in danger of over generalising we do see right at the top of the organisation that we have a group of mysogynistic men who distrust women and use the scripture to bolster this distrust. They adopt policies which in tune with these views ensure that women are controlled and repressed; whilst lower down within the ranks there might be differing and more liberated views on the treatment of women this has little or no effect because policy dictates differently.

Its almost akin to a machine operator not liking or agreeing with the products the machine manufactures but still continues to push the buttons that creates the product. The operator is the man in a position of authority, the machine being the WTS and the product is mysogyny!

You are right though, recovery does take some considerable time; what really brought things home for me was the fact that I spent more than a decade being out of the organisation and yet hadnt even begun to recover. Its only when you start to research and to understand that you obtain a sense of perspective that wasnt previously possible.

I am in a place now that the WTS has no control over; my feelings of liberation and awakening are so profound it caused me to reevaluate everything in my life and to set things straight; for once although having already achieved a lot, I felt that I knew finally what I really wanted.

I think subconsciously I dreamt of freedom whilst inside the organisation and this was evident given my criticisms and cynical outlook prior to leaving - I can now confirm I am living that dream!
