I was bored at work and feeling down with the after x-mas “why can't my family just be normal” thoughts and did a search. Found out about all the scandals and introduced myself. Took the day off work, went home and had a damn good read till about 2 in the morning. The wife was a bit apprehensive as previous JW searches on t'internet have just made me more depressed but many of the stories and things she's found out have help me open up to her more, for that I'm most grateful.

Watchtower and UN?
by rambaldi inis this issue of the watchtower being part of the un department of public information of any significance?
at the district conventions of jehovahs witnesses there are flags of the united states and other sovereign government such as states or other countries hanging from the buildings.
the governing body and the watchtower society rent buildings which become the equivalent of kingdom halls for the weekend.

Dad's and daughters...
by Frog inlately i've been feeling incredibly frustrated by the relationship i have with a few members of my family who aren't attached to the org, or just hanging in by a thread.
my dad is one such person, love him to bits, but he really gives me the sh*ts with his poor me act grrrr.
i just get tired of always being the one who calls, who stays in contact, who visits etc.

Blondie, I do realise that. Every time I log on I realise that there are people on this board who make the problems of others seem petty by comparison. I've read many of the accounts of child abuse from this site and others, not so I can understand it or put it into perspective or to sort it out. I read them because you and others like you have the courage to put them there.

WHO WILL TAKE YOUR FUNERAL
by tijkmo indont mean to be morbid here.
but as a jw all of this was taken care of.
now i think if i were to die tomorrow i wouldnt want a jw funeral (although technically i could still qualify) and i wouldn't even want any of my former associates who abandoned me when i needed them most to be there... so what arrangements have you made.

I'll leave it up to the ones left behind, after all a pile of carbon and gold filling isn't going to notice. As long as they don't spend too much and don't leave me as worm food.

My first job in life is being a father to my two daughters. They're at the age now where they freely comment on my weight, grooming and clothes, but my main arsenal of “your hair looks nice today” or “ that's a pretty dress” still fire true every time. A kiss goodbye every morning, a hug when I come home from work and a kiss good night.
The father daughter relationship is a very special one and I shall regret the day I am no longer the only male in their life. When that time comes I will treasure the memories and be there for them and support them in anyway I can. After all they're the ones who are going to be paying for the old folks home and I want a good one. I know that they are going to go one day but I thank them both for teaching me what women are day by day.
I can't fathom the shunning that I read about on this board between a father and daughter. Part of the father daughter packed is to be there for them whatever. I wish all the women here who are currently shunned by their dads could have an hour alone with them to hold them and once again be their little girl, the princess that they are charged to care for. As a father, out of all the wicked things the org do I see breaking the bonds between father and daughter to be the most despicable.

Another question for atheists, spirituality
by IP_SEC ini'm not talking about deeminz and gawds, or the supernatural here, just the state of being spiritual.
what accounts for it in the evolutionary model?
muchos gracias amigos.

I agree that the term spiritual is a bit vague and so it should be. I've always seen it as a feeling of confusion but without the panic. It may be a triggered response to get our brains working in a manner that will find out more. If Edison ran out in to the street and grabbed the nearest hick and showed him his new light bulb they would be in awe. Behind a house I use to live in there was a hay field. One night I looked out and there was a full moon shining brightly in the sky, there where no clouds and the night air was crisp. The whole field was blue and swaying in the night breeze, a truly beautiful sight. The blue came from the refraction index of the cold air and the breeze from areas of high and low pressure, beautiful physics.
I can get the same feeling of spirituality from smoking marijuana. Like all our emotions it's a chemical reaction.

To me the issue is about double standard. It is also about the WT suddenly publishing articles that praise the work of the UN in its publication in accordance to the terms of being a NGO. This is hardly the work of one individual. We should question how imperfect humans could corrupt gods mouthpiece and if this shows it is not the vehicle it claims to be. There is also the scarlet beast question, it would have been better for them to of used the Vatican library that the UN.

First annual Apostate Independence Day?? Any takers? Lurkers L00k please.
by IP_SEC inlet me start by saying that i have the deepest respect for all of you who have left the organization.
some of us choose to leave in spirit only but remain physically for any number of reasons.
i have respect for you because youve been able to push through what i know is a terribly dense cloud to get to the point where you see the org for what it really is.. others choose to fade, which in many ways is harder than leaving out right.

Brilliant idea if it can be pulled off but I don't know how many would be able to. Why limit it to just DAing? If you want to show the WTS the amount of opposition it has internally and from it's ex members have a full day of protest. Faders sent anonymous letters and e-mails to their cong or national head office stating their bogus FS hours, the picketing class can picket halls, you get the picture.
Make it a international day of giving the WTS the finger.

The Star Spangled Banner

what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?.
whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight;.

It is nice to be able to take comfort and pride form our national anthems now we are out of the org. I too have come to find inspiration from the English national anthem, especially the second to last line in the 6 th verse.
