You’re a very lenient man minimus, I hate cold callers the first time they ring. In fact I hate any type of intrusive advertising from the car dealer who puts that unremovable sticker on your car to the junk mail that lands on my doormat. In fact I only hate the junk mail that doesn’t have a return envelope in it. Any with a return envelope get a menu from the local takeaway of my choice sent back. I would put some “literature” in them but I don’t hate them that much.

Ex JW success stories
by greendawn inthe wts likes to claim that there is no real life outside the borg and those leaving it, that is leaving jehovah, to re enter -gasp- satan's world are unlikely to find any satisfaction or success in life.
yet many ex jws have done much better after leaving the borg in terms of family life, social life, job wise, financially, and educationally, spiritually, and overall adjusted to a much more natural and fulfilling life style.
do you know of such ex jw success stories personal and/or those of others?

Spot on under74 we've all achieved the greatest success in our lives by leaving.
No great academic success or brilliant career but I have a much better family life than I would have being bound by the pressure of the org. From that scared naïve 16 year old to the man I am today I'd say I've succeeded.

Discipline or Child Abuse?
by Dimples ini remember spanking my son when we used to attend meetings and conventions because he cried and just wouln't sit still.
i was told that he had to be disciplined so he would learn to behave and learn what was being said from the platform.
now that i look back i realize that that was child abuse and i feel so horrible about it.do you feel guilty for spanking your kids during meetings and conventions?

When my kids were toddlers the only physical discipline they received was a mock slap on the hand or leg. Mock mind you, no physical pain and that was only for doing things that were dangerous or would of caused them harm. If you have to result to using pain to educate your children then you are a failed parent, you fail them when you hit them and you failed when you were bringing them up. The lack of respect your child has for you is your own doing yet you inflict your frustration on them.

Do your ears "hear" things?

but do you ever hear things that you think aren't there.
like this morning i was lying in bed, fully awake and rational, just enjoying the quiet, when i heard this sound "like a rushing wind" (that is the exact thought that came into my mind) when i heard that sound & the thought crossed my mind, so did that scripture in acts where it speaks about when the holy spirit came upon the 120 in the upper room.. and the sound didn't stop - it just carried on.

I'd guess that they have been mainly U.S and a few U.K. I'd also guess that no non-Europeans have held the position.

144,000 on The Simpsons
by sixsixsixtynine inin last nights episode of the simpsons, homer goes to see the movie "left below", and subsequently becomes obsessed with the rapture.
when they show an equation he's working on to determine when it will come, one of the numbers is 144,000!.
do any other religions besides the witnesses and adventists use that number?

In Gillingham, Kent there was a a building called Jezreel Tower. I've been desperately trying to find any conformation on t'internet but from what I can remember it was built by an apocalyptic cult to house 72 men and 72 women (144) during a second flood. This was around the turn of the 19th C I believe. It was never completed and ironically the site was on the way to the KH I use to go to.

What to tell the children?
by mtbatoon inmy inquisitive 10 year old asked why her cousins can't have a blood transfusion this weekend.
i must admit i do still feel uncomfortable discussing anything that might vilify my jw family, despite some shunning in my early 20's things have settled down and we now enjoy a workable relationship.
so if you where in my shoes what would you of said?

As we have this working relationship at present I am taking my wife's advice and refraining from any dialogue with my family that may jeopardise their relationship my children. My children are intuitively aware of what not to say so there is a certain amount of free range in the subjects I can discuss with them. That said however it is also important to tell the truth without ruining the love that my daughter has for my mother. For instance I could say that nanny just believes other peoples blood is bad, or I could say that she and all my siblings are promoting the work of an evil mind control cult and would be happy for any of her cousins to die on the operating table to show the strength of their allegiance.
