Different times different problems. Blown up by a terrorist bomb or skewered on a mammoth tusk. Take your pick.

Is life any better now?
by onacruse inrecent conversations and threads prompt me to ask these questions:.
have humans evolved/developed/learned beyond what we were several thousand years ago?.
do you think life, in general, is better now?.

just introducing myself
by adri2 ini never did become a jw but i did associate with them for a few years by attending meetings, going house to house, and all that fun stuff.
anyway, i have so much in my mind that i cannot possibly say in one post.
basically i saw/heard many things during my association with jw that i just didn't agree with or just made me wonder if they were truly teaching the "truth", which i have recently come to the conclusion that there is no truth.

Two types of elder?????
by chuckyy inits my experience after actually being an elder for a number of years that there are in fact...two types of elder.. type 1....genuine, actually cares about the people in the congregation and wasn't actually bothered too much if he became an elder or not.. type 2....very legalistic, cares more about organizational laws rather than people and lacks compassion and empathy.
this type is more of a spiritual policeman.
he wanted desperately to be an elder and now that he is, he loves the sense of power and prestige.. this has been my experience and if there are more type 2 elders on a body, the results can be disastrous.. what has been your experience???

Wow. I was thinking about the exact same thing last night and the answers here today. Must be some sort of divine spirit at work guiding me to the answers I seek. On the other hand it might just be one of them bloody coincidences.
What worried me is there where a few that it retrospect aren?t as thick as they?re stupid looking. The ones with the slightly better job (usually some sort of salesman), better car, better house. I?m now wondering if there might be a few funny handshakes going on at the back of the hall?

Chauvanism or Chivalry?
by stillajwexelder inover the years i have become less of male chauvanist pig and much more chivalrous - my wife says she as a woman likes men to be men and hold doors open for her and stand up on an airport shuttle bus etc .
if there are no seats left.
to me the wtbts is very chauvanistic and not very chivalrous.

stillajwexelder : what do you ladies like
the best answer to that I've had from the Mrs is "not needing to be asked". As I like a lady thats a challenge thats fine by me.

Cathedrals
by Peppermint insince leaving the jw?s i have developed a real appreciation of old cathedrals.
these places are beautiful and really took some building.
how boring and lifeless kingdom halls are in comparison.

They are works of art. I lived in Canterbury for a time and loved looking round the one there. If you?re of a mind, to get into their construction to appreciate what a feat it was to build them. Also bear in mind that at the time they where built most people live in small wood built houses and the cathedrals where the skyscrapers of the day.
