i don't know if its just me or if anyone else feels the same but it really annoys me when jehovahs witnesses use their terminology when speaking to a non jw.. for example, a jw woman is talking to a collegue who has never had a bible study and knows nothing about jws.. instead of saying "i have a friend coming for tea tonight" the woman says " one of the sisters is coming for tea tonight".. or, instead of "i was talking to a friend on the phone last night" she says "i was talking to an elder on the phone last night".. it just really winds me up, i think they do it to seem important and mysterious but it only leaves the other person confused.
Thing that gets me is saying “God Jehovah” instead of “Jehovah God”. Seems to me that when I was in it was “Jehovah God” now on the unfortunate occasion that I have to meet one of the holier relatives that don't know that don't mention religion rule, its “God Jehovah”. Why the switch, make scan wrong so it'll stick in the mind? What is the correct grammar anyway? Surely as monotheists simply God or Jehovah would do anyway.

who among us here, when on the freeway does the standard speed of 55mph.
i'd like to say that i'm a law abiding citizen, however......
it's a wonderful thing that many folks wish to follow the rules of the road but you people who don't keep it rolling with the rest of the crowd at 65-70mph are risking a catastrophe.
I like to stick to the speed limit on all roads not because I'm law abiding but because it annoys others.

if you weren't known to the local congregation and had a list of dubs home addresses in your area, would you go reverse witnessing door to door?
Cab's comments brings up an interesting suggestion. JWs think anyone contacting them about their religion is "crazy," but when JWs do the same thing, they call it "field service." How crazy is that? :)
Which is what made me ask the question. In fact what I was thinking about was how the dubs seem to have not only produced a protective barrier around themselves but apostates seem to be actually repelled by it. For example in the last sentence when I wrote ?apostate? how many thought of a placard waving loony shouting outside a convention? How many exDubs openly call themselves apostates?
apostate a person who renounces a former belief, principle, etc.
That's what the Oxford English dictionary says on the matter but would you use the ?A? word in front of your JW family?
If at a family dinner if I left the table with my children when a prayer was said because it contradicted my beliefs, it would be considered odd behaviour by the very people that instilled in me that it was the right thing to and would have no qualms about doing the same if the situation was reversed.

I want a black satin bib for when I'm a dribbling old fool. The GB get to have all the good stuff.
Happy birthday.
since i stopped going to the meetings, my daily bible reading has become irregular.
i bought a king james version the other day, and thought that this might be a good opportunity to start reading the bible again on a daily basis.
i was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing this together?
I would, but I think there is other fiction I need to get through first
I skipped to the end bit, I think the author was a bit pushed to meet his deadline. Didn't make much sense and the plot totally went out the window.
when people post to jwd, do you make an effort to understand "who" they are and take an interest in their wellbeing, or are they just 'ghosts in a machine' there to entertain you?
do the people here fall somewhere in-between for you?
do you think it matters?
Crumpet: No I've yet to meet anyone from here and if I do my opinion may well change. For now I'm happy to listen to the harmonies and discords instead of the individual notes. I'm a very visually motivated person and I'd rather know someone by the way they sit, smile or raise and eyebrow than by what they put down in words. I've never had the knack with the written word and therefore don't put much trust in it. It's not that I don't think of the people on this board or any other but without being able to visualise them I've no personality to hook on to.
just the once.. i was 19 years old.
i was stll fairly pure except for the odd escapade that involved just a touch of finger-pie.
so there was some semblance of guilt hanging over my head.
The only dream I've ever had about the big A was after I left. The world froze over and everyone was milling around when this door opened from nowhere and Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix stepped out telling people it was the way to heaven. Lots of people walked through but I saw the steps on the other side leading downwards. I tried to warn people but they didn't listen and then there was only a few of us left. After a while the ice melted and a load of coaches turned up and took the remaining people to the cross channel ferries that were waiting to take us to paradise.

Sorry but no. What evidence have I got that any of you are who you say you are.
I'm not wearing my sceptics badge with pride here or trying to be insulting but honestly to me everyone here is one big voice speaking in differing inflections. Not just this forum but every other that I read or partake in.
