  in "1975 believer -- 101" at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/88161/1.ashx we discussed how a jehovah's witness with a conviction is a hard person to change despite overwhelming evidence that the conviction is wrong.

  this new thread introduces conditions under which we can expect to observe increased fervor following the disconfirmation of a belief.

  there are five conditions the true believer class needs to increase activity, even when others within the movement decrease involvement.

  One aspect of the social proof provided by other true believers is that once a prophecy fails, they become VERY serious about prostletyzing.

  I have not subjected it to serious scrutiny, but if I recall, the proclaimers book talks about a renewed effort to spread the truth. These renewed efforts always coincide with a major failed prophecy.

  The reason is because whenever a prophecy fails, it is a serious challenge to the tb's faith. They need to ensure their are many others who believe as they do. The fact that their are all these new converts despite the prophetic failures helps gird the tb's faith.

  anyone here master the art of pressing in the doorbell without really pressing it?

  how about knocking where it seems loud on the outside, but you know it can't be heard on the inside.

  or standing at a door for up to 5 minutes when you know nobody was there.

  Man the light has really come on for me. This is why they are always showing up at my house. All the time! They just say, "oh we were just in the neighborhood. Don't mean to bother you. Blah Blah Blah." They were using me to pad their hours!

  I will have to find a way to use this to my advantage. I think I will go out in service with my newly dunked wife. That will kill two stones. It will build up trust in my wife's cult identity. I can also drive them absolutely batty by pushing the pace. "Come on! Lets go to some more doors! WHat, break already?! We only talked to a few people?! Step up the pace, why are you oh so superior jw's who look down on me being outpaced by an awful unbeleiving mate!!!"

  And they never get pissed when I tell them I can't have a study today. I say, "sorry, I hope I didn't waste your time". And they assure me that I didn't. And after I read this thread, I realize they are thanking me. I usually try to be jovial and make people laugh. I am probably a hot commodity.

  "Let's go see that awful unbelieving mate, Matt. He sure is a funny opposer" (secretly hoping that I never come into the truth lest they lose their convenient time waster)

  This is funny. I just realized something. Everytime they come by my house, they are logging time. And whenver I tell them I can't have a study they show up anyway and just talk my ear off. After reading this thread it dawned on me that they are just wasting time jabbering away with me.

  I swear, the more time I spend on this site, the more things make sense to me.

  I have a question. I am not a dub, just married to one. What happens when people go out with a newly dunked dub. Are they ambitious and therefore annoying to the older-worn-out dubs?

  i'm still technically an unbaptised publisher... i'm glad i came to my recent revelations before baptism.

  anyway, basically i was stumbled by recent events in our hall... a respected pioneer sister tried to seduce my sister-in-law's husband.

  and when that didn't work she went after another friend's husband.

  You sound like you are in a similar situation to mine. Except my wife just got dunked. I am now trying to get her out of the cult. I hope you do realize that it is in fact a cult. If not, you will in time. I was studying, but then my eyes were opened. I can't just leave abruptly because my wife got dunked and my 12yr old daughter has bought into alot of this garbage.

  Fortunately that is the extent of jw family ties.

  I encourage you to check out some other sites, such as freeminds.org, theholdemans.com, freedomofmind.org. The first one has some good refutations of jw doctrine. You might come to realize that you don't agree with the jws quite as much as you thought you did. The holdemans is a mennonite site with great background info on "one true" religions. The last one is a good general purpose cult site.

  I hope you can keep your faith intact. Don't let some silly, self-important people ruin Gods's good name for you. That is their purpose.

  Feel free to im me. Like I said, I am an unbelieving mate, so my mission in life is extricating my family from this silly bunch.

  Yeah! I just read that one and brought that one up to my "it's just what the bible says" wife. She didn't have an answer. I have an answer. Answering questions at the hall is a method of bringing about appropriate jw indoctrination. Making pre-fabricated public statements (in the presence of witnesses) is an act that then forces your thinking to align with the statement you made. It is an integral part of their mind control. So we will just look past this scripture because it doesn't serve the needs of the faithful and discreet slave.

  I think I can out this sincere as the bf referred to in posts by a new member named MM090503. Just a thought.

  I don't mean to pick on you sincere. Are you baptized yet? You don't sound like you are. You sound like a nice, extremely well intentioned fellow who has heard some very compelling arguments. Many here are qute jaded, and even bitter. Please don't discard the things they have to say because of the intensity of their negative emotions.

  You have made some new, very nice friends, who have assured you that life as a witness is nothing but sweetness and light. Any difficulties you encounter will be due to agents of Satan trying to tempt you and test you.

  I am very glad you are here. It shows that you are interested in what other people think. It shows you are willing to listen to others, and make up your own mind free from outside control. That is all I want for my family as an UBM.
