And another thing TT.

I referred to the folks who show up here and then very quickly are able to nudge someone out as "doofus"

What I meant was that it is just kind of funny for some of us who have spent thousands of hours studying cults, wt, psychology, Bible, etc. We have this huge, hard won store of knowledge and expertise. Then some guy like you strolls in here, and after a few weeks your love interest is heading for the door. So it is not that you or any other person like you is a "doofus" in the sense that you are not intelligent or even knowledgeable. It is more of a small bit of jealousy that you are able to pull it off without having to spend all the incredible amount of time researching like others here.

I don't think you are a doofus. Just a rookie! And I am extremely jealous of, happy for, and proud of all the progress you have made.

Hey bro, you don't have to convince me that you are/were sincere and in it for the long haul. Also, my referring to you as my victim was very tongue and cheek. I did beat up on you some when you showed up here. You also know why I did it. For every one of you there are 20 that show up here all dramatic and silly, and then we don't hear from them anymore. One is left with the impression of some flighty person who got bored or met someone else. So I like to try to scare the "my bf/gf is a jdub" types off. If I can do that they aren't in it for the long haul. You were a good sport about it all, and that is why I continue to be interested in your story.

So go easy on Why. It is just a little aggravating to those of us who are in it for such high stakes to have someone come in here acting all dramatic and desperate, only to realize they are not all that serious or even minimally invested in the outcome. It just kind of rubs people with REAL problems/pain the wrong way. And mostly our warnings are heartfelt and well founded.

BTW, how goes the battle? If you don't want to mention it in public, pm me.

joseph smith founded the church in 1830, 10 years after he claimed to experience a vision of god and jesus in a grove of trees near his family home in palmyra, n.y. he also said an angel named moroni led him to a set of buried gold plates that contained the ancient records of christ's dealings with the inhabitants of the americas.

smith's translation of the plates became known as the book of mormon, the text on which mormons base their religion.. smith's original church had just six members, mostly his family, and only 5,000 copies of the book of mormon were published at first.

he sent out a handful of missionaries.. today mormonism has more than 12 million members half of them outside the united states.

How about after he tries to end the religion when his conscience awakens, their is a group that refuses to believe it. A new leader arises calling him a "prophet turned apostate". The group goes on without him in a mindless rampage of deciet and lies. He is a destroyed man having lost his group and his soul.

The story needs redemption though. He could start off as a kid with some sort of decent religious upbringing through a grandmother maybe. It doesn't take for him. He is taken in by bad influences and is a natural hustler. He sees what his grandmother taught as a way to hustle.

Bookend it in the ending by having him somehow return to that original upbringing in a simple, true, and honest sense. Leave his group to go on to highlight the self-sustaining nature of these self-congratulating religions are, and to show the damage caused by one mans weakness. He thought he was in control, but he unleashed forces beyond his control.

i want to turn this forum on its head for this thread.

i'm here on this forum to find as many truths as is possible relating to jwism.

i'm not really here to stick the boot in although once in a while my emotions might get the better of me.

No authority or any other bonafide is necessary or useful.

sorry if there are those apostates here that do this, but you were often the butt of a joke and nothing taken serious.

i personally loved the ones who wore paper bags over their head, as they were often people still afraid of getting in trouble.

it is not like a political rally with people saying "make love, not war.

And if you are protesting, don't yell or scream. Just sit out and smile and wave to them as they pass by. Not a phony smart-assy type smile. A real, warm, genuine smile.

I have pictured making my "opposition" fully known to my wife eventually. My whole tack would be that I don't have any objections to the WT necessarily. I just want to make sure info is available. There were so many questions I had that I had to find out on my own. What could be wrong with making info available. What could be wrong with helping people to know what info is available.

Then I would drive with her to the convention or assembly. She would drop me off at the front gate with my signs that ask humble questions, and point to sites like Quotes, ajwrb, silent lambs, freeminds, and BRCI. I would sit outside. She would go inside. At lunch we would eat together. At the end of the day we would go home together.

Wouldn't that be hilarious?!?!?

greetings.. i have started a project that i hope will stay online for times indefinate, even to times indefinate.

you can find it at www.reexamine.org .. i started working on it in october and it is still a work in progress, however because of the shut down of the website located at http://quotes.watchtower.ca i felt that i should release the site in "as-is" condition, instead of waiting until it was completely finished.. currently, there isn't a lot of content in the 'wiki' section of the website.

hopefully in the next few days and weeks that will change, however there are still programming issues that i have to work out before that can happen.

I think the key to your site and any site like quotes is that it is strictly informational.

No commentary is necessary.

Quotes Mirror Sites: Attempt at Making a Single Place to Report Sites

it appears that the work around for the quotes site will be a long term effort.

as the wt plays whack-a-mole with the new sites that pop up, we need to know where the new ones pop up.. so here is my attempt to bring some order to this process.

let's make this a running thread where we put all our links to the mirror sites.. the downside is that the wt will know where to go to find out where the new sites are they have to squash.. the upside is that it is alot easier to put a site up then it is for the wt to take them down!!!.

Ok everything is a tradeoff.

If we make it harder for the WT to find the new sites that also means it is harder for us as well.

And really is it that hard for them anyway. They can just keep an eye on this site for all the new announcements about where to find the new site. I for one don't come here everyday, let alone look for the quotes website. I would like to be able to go to one spot to find the new sites.

One poster nailed it though. Really it is just a matter of setting the quotes site up offshore.

So who wants to move to Elbonia and setup the quotes mirror site?

Oh, I guess it isn't that easy.

this thread is a quick primer for those who are fairly unfamiliar with the jw, but have found that they are dating someone who is or used to be a jw.

well just to give you a little background on how jw's view the rest of the non-jw world: they basically see you as a bug.

you are worldly and certain to bring their loved one death at the hands of god at armageddon.

I think these protest (and any criticism of the WT for that matter) could be MOST effective if it simply provided information.

LEAVE THE COMMENTARY TO THE INDIVIDUAL!!!

That was (and is) the genius behind Quotes' site.

The WT is built on a foundation of bad or omitted information. All that has to be done is make that information known. That is it. There is no need to condemn the WT, their words and actions condemn themselves. Any philosophy that has as one of it's tenets that a group of people have a monopoly on absolute truth will always crumble under the weight of it's internal contradictions. The WT is no different.

So for a protest to be really effective, it would be good just to have some simple and humble signs (if that is possible) that say things like?

"Got Doubts? freeminds.org"

"Does Anybody Else Have These Questions? jehovahs-witness.org"

"If it is the truth should I fear asking questions? jehovahs-witness.org"

Stuff that ridicules or attacks or is snotty or condescending will only feed the cult genes.

It is difficult I know. We all have lost so much to this bunch. Our instincts are to attack. But nothing hurts the WT more then opening a closed mind.
