After reading Hebrews I wondered how dubs explained that. The first few chapters seem to be dedicated to correcting the idea that Christ was an Angel.

Counter arguments for the WT's Jesus is Michael Proof Texts
by lovelylil inmichael the archangel is only mentioned in five bible verses.
revelation 12:7
therefore, here it is saying that when christ comes down from heaven he is accompanied by a loud shout, made with the voice of the archangel, and he is also accompanied by the trumpet call of god.

Without a doubt I think it is the door to door work.It is the perfect example of the influence of consistency. Humans have a natural need to be consistent. Their actions need to be consistent with thoughts and emotions. That is the basis for cognitive dissonance theory.
Also it has been shown that if a person performs and act that is difficult (knocking on strangers doors to recruit people is VERY difficult!!!), they will have a stronger need for their future actions to be consistent with that act. If an act is somehow public (door to door is seen by fellow jws and people being preached to), then the need to be consistent is further reinforced by the outside social pressure that comes from needing to be seen as consistent by others.
You could probably add to that the way it divides the world in the jw mind. They are the right ones. All others are potential recruits or enemies. The only legitimate way to interact with the outside world for the jw is the preaching work.
Prostletyzing = Indoctrination
The jw's may not be the most controlling cult out there, but they are probably one of the hardest from which to free a person's mind.

Extra training ... so you know that shooting babies is WRONG ?!?
by Simon inhow dumb and pathetic.. no extra training should be necessary for even slightly trained and disciplined soldiers.
i guess it is for some of the rabble that the us call "troops" though.. of course the real problem is not just those on the ground that have committed the latest attrocity.
it is the chain of command that tried to cover it up and all the way up to the president who sanctions bombing of civilian targets with nothing more than rumour for "intelligence".. from now on america, you are on your own.

The marked countries all had their respective asses saved from either the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese army primarily by we corrupt, mean, selfish Americans in WWII.
Although I share your view that the world owes America a debt of gratitude for our defense of civilization and the values of Western Civilization, I have to point out that the Brits had pretty much turned the corner in Africa and Europe while the Ruskies had done so in Asia. The Nazis were going down. We just made it happen sooner with less Allied bloodshed.
If you are cool, you don't have to tell people. They just know.
Now if you want to talk about the damn Ruskies we can talk about saving alot of respective asses...

This stuff happens in every war with every military. In fact the most tragic aspect of war is without a doubt the suffering of civilians.
If this really happened, what you basically had was some 19 to 20 year olds with alot of firepower at their disposal who were pretty pissed off to see their buddy blown to pieces. They were just looking for payback. It's just war.

Is The Society Truly "Destructive"?
by logansrun inis it really proper to say that the witness organization is a destructive religion (or cult) or that they promote self-destructive behavior in its members?
most on this forum would say yes, emphatically so.
i think the situation is actually more complex, however.

one must admit that present day technologies make death from lack of a blood transfusion a rarity.
If it affects you, it isn't rare. Statistics musn't hide us from the fact that they represent REAL people. However you want to spin it, the blood policy is an abomination.

I think the modified front cover titles would be an integral part of this.
Awhile back Richie had one for the one where a bunch of angels are looking down on the earth, his was "Angels Watch You Poop"
I love that big-little bastard!!

It's not upbuilding! It only tears down!
by under_believer ini'm sure many will recognize the subject as a criticism frequently levelled against critical or "apostate" statements: it doesn't build up, it's not encouraging, it only tears down, it's negative.
in other words, don't listen to it, or it will harsh your mellow.. has anybody come up with a reasonably acceptable response to this criticism?
i have already heard it a couple of times in talking to various friends of mine.

"So if someone disagrees with you and tries to point out your error, that is tearing down? Why would someone want to build up something they don't agree with?"
and then go on to say...
"The JW disagree with orthodox Christianity. They do so not by building them up. They accuse them of being the Babylon the Great! Satan's organization! They ONLY tear down orthodox Christianity"
Keep in mind, the above is perfectly logical, but it won't matter because you are talking to a brain-dead drone.

same problem as any of the holidays. They want a way to keep jw's from spending time with their non-jw relatives. Make up a bogus rule about it being a sin to get together with your relatives on the only days that EVERYBODY has off work. Bam, problem solved.
Now the individual jw is kept more isolated from free thought and reality.
