i know there's the obvious "joanie the jehovah witness stripper", but do you know of any others?

Davis: There's a lot of the gospel sound in your music. Is it true your family were Jehovah's Witnesses?
Van Morrison: No no no no, not really. My mother was in it for a while, a brief encounter, that was all.
Davis:: Were you taken door-to-door as a child with the Witnesses?
Van Morrison: No, but I was taken to a couple of meetings. I found them quite pleasant, but that was all.

Boorish Behavior of Dubs at Convention Cities?

maybe this has been talked about already, but the thought occured to me as to whether or not the boorish behavior commented on annually during the district convention part during the service meeting.

did these sorts of things happen?

if you were on the rooming committee, i would love to know if this can be verified or busted..

Every year we get reminded to be on our best behavior in the hotels, restaurants, etc. etc.

Now we get reminded that tipping (in the U.S.) your server at a restaurant is a common and accepted custom!

I've always taken this to mean that there are problems every year that get back to the big boys.

i do not really hate pets but i am allergic to them.

Most annoying Kingdom song

mine would have to be "dark days are here!

men live in fear!....

" followed by the annoying change to a happy beat before the chorus "but the bible gives us a reason for cheer.." .

Most of the songs out of the old pink songbook were okay, except the really slow ones ("Balsam in Gilead" anyone?) A lot of them were adapted from older hymns, which made them enjoyable to sing.

Such interesting musical attributes as meter, harmony, tonality, etc. were evidently not necessary qualifications for most of the batch of new songs in the brown songbook.

In fact, I have it on good authority that most of the newer songs lyrics weren't written by musicians at all, but rather by guys given a job to address some certain aspect of JW theology. They then set pen to paper with a rhyming dictionary at hand.

It was a BobbleHead Memorial

the funniest head-bobbing i've ever seen- and at the most important commeration there is!

what made it ridiculous is that the speaker wore glasses that magnified the endless bobbing of his eyes, as he fought valiantly to keep from bobbing his head too much, as he read his little speech written by hq, as a good parrot would...the same stupid statements- "questions you may ask", "we do well to", "but, wait!

", "question you may ask", etc.

LOL. "Benefit" is the possibly the most (over)used word in the org. I personally can't stand it, and avoid using it at all costs.

WE didn't go to the Memorial last night!!!

we didn't go to the memorial last night.. husband and self went to sainsburys and bought easter eggs for the kids and we bought the dvds of 'a night in the museum' and 'flushed away'.. easter egg consumption will commence on sunday as with the usual pagan ritual.. films have already been watched, enjoyed and watched again.. we went shopping half an hour before the memorial was due to start so that any jws going past would see we were consumed in our worldly pleasures!!

we also bought a load of reduced 'danish' and us and kids ate them with relish with a nice cup o' tea!.

Don't the Jehovah's Witnesses always have a different date from the rest of the world? Aren't they always the ONLT right/correct ones?

I think they got it right this year, at least in line with most mainstream/ orthodox judaism. Maybe "got it right" is too strong. They just lucked out.

Did you have a favorite food at the assemblies (when they sold it there)?

hubby and i got on the topic last night.

he was wondering what i was eating- a frozen jello pudding cup.

i remember getting them at the assemblies, especially the hot summer district assemblies.

Without doubt the curry. I had my first ever taste of curry at the assembly and I was a born again believer.

OMG - if they had curry at the assemblies in the States I would have eaten it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

A couple random memories: I would eat around the center of the cheese danish until all that was left was the creamy, cheesy center. Then I would pop it in my mouth. We called the Shasta soda "Burp Juice." Who can remember how many tickets things cost? Hoagie - 10 (?) Burrito - 5 Pudding - 3 Danish - 4 (?) Fruit Bag - 10 Also I have hazy memories of some kind of funky pizza at circuit assemblies for a while in the late 70's when I was a kid. It was that rectangular school cafeteria pizza with tomato sauce and cheese. It didn't really taste like pizza as it is commonly known, more like a giant Totino's pizza roll, but to a 7-year old it was dee-licious. BTW - thanks for the fun thread to get me posting a bit.

I totally forgot about the frozen pudding! Frozen vanilla pudding was the best! On the Sunday after the session they would unload all the surplus food and I would make out with a case of the Swiss Miss pudding, take it home and put it in the freezer.

Other than that I really dug the burritos. I have found the Taco Bell Chili Cheese burrito to be a close approximation of it. Or, get a frozen "Patio" brand bean burrito, nuke it, and your memories will be whisked back to D.A. heaven.

Did Bethel play music or the radio in the factory to alleivate boredom?

just curious for all those bethelites who worked in the factory at bethel - did you have the radio playing or were you allowed to listen to your own music?.

i'm trying to imagine what it must be like working in the bindery with no music during 8 hour days.. or did you work in step with jehovah's orgainzation to the kingdom melodies?.

I never went to Bethel, but did work secularly in printing for a time. I would have gone crazy without my Walkman.

WT distribution changes in 2008 - Will it effect your literature order?

some of us here are still active and still have a magazine order.. what do you think will happen when we go to pick up our magazines?.

will the literature servant reduce our order of the 15th edition to 1 per person?

what if you want spares?

At the very least it means that Armegeddon won't be coming in 2007!!!
Jehovah wouldn't DARE going against the Governing Body and one of their business decisions which commence on January 1 2008.

Heh heh, hadn't thought of that. Looks like I'm safe from the big A for at least 10 more months.
