I've done this many, many times. These weren't deliberate "misses" (of which I have plenty, too), but last-minute ditches after showering, dressing and driving all the way to the meeting or service. Sometimes I just couldn't do it, said "screw this" and went back home. And many, many times I've done the meeting for service (it's especially easy when the hall meets all together) and just kind of drifted to my car, out of the parking lot and back home (or out to breakfast.) It's all about being seen by "the man" anyway, so I figured I got some credit.

You ever drive to the meeting, or field service meeting point, and do a U-Turn and go back home?
by miseryloveselders ini did this today.
last night, the pretty little weather girl stated there would "be heavy rain marked by occasional thunderstorms.
" i thought to myself, great, hopefully its so bad when i awaken, anybody originally planning on going out, will just stay home.

I have a question for you all......
by its_me! inmy sister visited me a few months ago, and she was on a holy roller, 'save my soul' kick.
she told me that i needed to get back to the meetings because armageddon was so near.
i told her that if i serve jehovah, it will not be because i am afraid of dying at armageddon, it will be because i love him and have a personal relationship with him.

This same line of "reasoning" was used on me by family members recently due to my rather lax meeting attendance.

As You've Gotten Older Have You Changed Your Thoughts On Marriage?
by minimus inmany witnesses got married at a young age (because they felt they had to).
you can't sin, right?.
some people get married and for years, are very happy.

I have learned that nothing should be placed above dedication and attention to the marriage and family, least of all an organization of men, so-called "spiritual privileges", meeting parts, KH responsibilities, etc.

metal health problems in the organisation
by looloo infor "the happiest people on earth" i found so many folk in the cong had depression or suffered with "nerves and axiety" there was one lad who was due to go and "work" in bethel and changed his mind at the last minute and spent nearly all his time on his computer in his bedroom from then on (he must of been on this site !he apparently "went schitsophrenic(dont know how to spell it sorry ) as did his sister and his poor mum was probably the most dedicated dub in the cong but was considered as a bit "bonkers" by all in the cong .
there were 3 elders i know of who had depression and many rank and file , i must admit it did make me question how "happy "being a dub would make me when i was a study and voiced my concerns i was told satan was trying to get them out the truth so they were depressesed or some rubbish like that , but i was also told that people who leave the truth are depressed because they dont have the truth !
you cant have it both ways !

Rose hit it on the head. The org probably doesn't cause mental illness, but exacerbates a bad situation by a encouraging a distrust of the mental health profession, entrusting a serious condition to men who have no qualifications to be dealing with such a matter, and a constant "do more, you are never doing enough" mantra that will increase guilt in anybody.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a Christian denomination? The Feb. Watchtower seems to say so
by slimboyfat ini have not noticed the witnesses referring to themselves in the literature as a christian denomination before: is this a new development?
the february 1st wt says on page 22:.
"a high-school textbook, world religions in denmark, published in 2007, described jehovah's witnesses as a christian minority who follow the bible closely.

More P.R. to appear mainstream to the public. Behind the closed doors of the KH JW's refer to themselves as "true" Christians.

Public Talks - or not???
by IMHO inwhy are so many public talks these days aimed at the congregation rather than the public?.
is this by design, or is it elders slipping up?.
references to "brothers and sisters" etc.
-
Tristram
The "Public" talks are nothing of the sort. They are aimed squarely at those already in and loaded with JW-speak and things only Witnesses can understand. I wonder why the phrase "Public Talk" is even used anymore.

Oral review
by bobld inq3 how did israel differ from other nations in matters involving warfare?
(deut.20:10-15,19,20;21:10-13)cl pp134-135,par.17).
some answers, people were first given a choice, they did not kill indiscriminately.

Off topic just a little...the Oral Review has become another parroting session. The WT answers circulate via email, everyone shows up with their printouts and reads a paragraph as an "answer."

Rush Limbaugh in Hospital in Serious Condition
by RubaDub injust saw the newsflash on cnn (10:30 est wed 30 dec 2009).
seems he had serious chest pains while playing golf in hawaii and was rushed to the hospital.
not sure where the "serious condition" part came from but that's what was reported.. even those of us who disagree with most of what he says wish him no harm and a speedy recovery.. however, when you are that full of shit, it takes a toll on your body.. rub a dub.

SoCal: Please give me an example where he is "mean" or "racist" or even wrong in that matter.
If you are a devoted follower, no doubt you have heard the ditty "Obama the Magic Negro" on his show.
As for those on the left "parrotting" what they hear, maybe so, but dittoheads have set the gold standard. I have never heard a more blindly following bunch, often repeating word for word what they heard on his program that day, as if they have some brilliant insight. The fact that they call themselves "dittoheads" should speak for itself.

My JW father recently said this: "I cannot see this system lasting even another year."
Man, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that over the years...I'd have enough money to retire.

Our parents' anniversary was always a big event. We would go out somewhere the kids liked for dinner, come home and unwrap tons of presents.
