i was brought up in the society, seen the elder arrangement brought in, seen changes and in fighting - and finally sttof down as a snr circuit elder in england because of the abuse issue and the society covering up.

i have also the seen the society flee and cya because of the data protection act in the uk.

About the only thing in CoC that suggested a bitter aftertaste was his statement re: Wes Benner's "I parrot the Governing Body". (not a quote) "I have never considered being a parrot an achievement of any merit" (!)

What is the oldest witness publication you actually remember?

not just one you have seen - or even researched since leaving.

but the oldest one you recall studying when you 'got the truth' or as a child?.

i remember "let god be true" - 'babylon the great has fallen'- and 'paradise restored - paradise regained' [the big orangish/pink book - hope i got the name right] - all 50's early 60's books.

i was talking to my grown ex jw daughter the other day and we were discussing the new cathedral downtown.

the old one is still there but small.

i was telling her that the hebrew letters for "jehovah's name" is inscribed on the top of the cathedral.

Actually, the Catholic New Jerusalem translation of the Bible has the name "Yahweh" in it thousands of times (if memory serves).

144,000 going to heaven, based on what??

let's face it, most jw's believe that there is clear biblical evidence that shows that only 144k will go to heaven and rule as kings during the 1000 yr reign.

when examining this topic without the aid of anything but the bible itself, it paints quite a different picture.

you would need to make some blind assumptions to come to the wt conclusion regarding this topic.. jws take it for granted this scripture rev.

The 1995 WT refutes their own WTS doctrine re: only 144 000 going to heaven.

wt95 08/01 page 11 paragraph 8:

8 When Israel rejected and killed His Son, Jesus Christ, God finally rejected her. So no longer was that Jewish nation a figurative wife to Him, nor was He the Father and Teacher of her wayward sons. (Matt. 23: 37,38) However, Israel was only a typical, or symbolic, wife. The apostle Paul quoted Isaiah 54: 1, which speaks of a "barren woman" who is different and distinct from "the woman with the husbandly owner," the nation of natural Israel. Paul reveals that anointed Christians are children of the "barren woman," whom he calls "Jerusalem above." This antitypical figurative woman consists of God's heavenly organization of spirit creatures. -- Galatians 4: 26,27. (end of quote).

The scripture thus indicates (using the WTS' own interpretation of the 'women') that the number of anointed Christians exceeds that of fleshly Israel. The cumulative number of natural Israelites between the Exodus and the coming of Christ Jesus was in the many tens of millions; therefore, many more than 144 000 are spirit-anointed Christians.

The above is based on the fact that most ignored 1975 as "old light" (even in 1980!).

JOB's children celebrating birthdays

can anyone give me their view on why the bible says that after job's children celebrated 'their day' he went out and made sacrafices to god in case they had sinned and cursed god in their hearts ?.

the first part is a great talking part especially regarding job being a rightous man but the latter tends to counter act it some how by impling that job thoughts were that birthdays were wrong, in gods eyes.

especially as he did this after every birthday, so i can't really debate that it was one off event that might have encured some wrong doing at one particular party........if you understand what i mean.. thanks for any iput.

If the celebration of birthdays is wrong BECAUSE in the scriptural accounts ONE person died at each of two such celebrations, would it not be forbidden to give (wedding) presents???

i am a seventh-day adventist and i am doing a bible project for my 11th grade religion class and i chose the topic of the trinity and decided to compare that of the seventh-day adventist teachings with that of your teachings.. what do you believe about the trinity?.

also, a little off the topic, but why don't you believe in having an american flag in your sanctuary?.

Actually, the JW's are descended from the SECOND ADVENTIST movement, NOT from the Seventh-Day Adventists. The SDA has its origins in the Second Adventist movement also; one might say the JW's and SDA's are 'cousins'. (No offense, AshtonCA)

Perhaps I should obtain a copy and cut out paragraph nine. It will be prove a great comfort to read it after the three-man spiritual Gentile Judicial Committee does their work and pronounces me an 'Evil Slave'.
