I was baptized pre-1985. When the change in the vow questions came in 1985, I could not believe my ears; for years previous, the WTS had declared that it was improper and unchristian to baptise into an organisation -- that was something false religious groups did! A heavy weight crushed my heart that day....

It should be noted that the "Studies in the Scriptures" volumes on the website are the post-1914 versions thereof, in which some of the faulty chronology was edited out. However, the Watchtower of its day was honest enough to note that the changes had been made. These changes were recorded in the 01. March 1915 Watch Tower, reprint page 5649 (shortly after "contents").

Well, it would be nice to think that 110 000 are leaving each year (would make a nice support system "outside" the Org, thereby greasing the skids for increased voluntary downsizing), but we ought not forget that people also leave in a box: the average death rate would thin the Witness ranks approx. 0.9% every year...

A brief History of Me...
by Truth.Seeker ini was studying with jehovah's witnesses during my college years.
i found that they somehow was able to make me understand many of the meanings from the bible that i had never understood before.
i had a clearer sight of what it was to walk as a christian.

Cordial welcome, Truth.Seeker!!!
Most of us have been where you are now. The fact that you are willing to take responsibility for your beliefs, rather than simply accepting what you have been told as "Truth", is very commendable. No doubt you will encounter certain challenges in the immediate future as you continue your seeking of truth, but feel assured that you will find many blessings as well.
Might I suggest you take a peek at "quotes.watchtower.ca"? Perhaps it will help you get a somewhat different perspective regarding the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Nothing "apostate" there, only quotes from the Society's publications....

2006 Yeartext: Obey!
by Severus inthe examining the scriptures daily 2006 has been released.
the jw rites of surprise and expectation over the new year's text are now at a fever pitch.
it seems that the theme "godly obedience" was such a hit at the 2005 district conventions, that the governing body has served up an extra helping.

Seems to me that the text is a sword that cuts both ways....

Jody,
No go. That scripture has been used ever since Knorr to prove the eternal destruction of those slain at the big A, but not those who die before. Basically, the WTS teaching was/is that death now (but not as an "apostate" or "Evil Slave" or DF'd/DA'd individual) is a free ride to the New System. I, too, used to feel relieved when non-Witness relatives and friends passed away (though I never really considered 'helping' them into the Paradise via a violent and sudden end).

The story of my life (part 9- 1975: the date comes)
by onacruse inhow often does it happen that we can be asked, rather like on the witness chair in a trial: "what exactly were you doing on the night of xx-xx-xxxx 30 years ago?
" and actually be able to answer that question?
i know exactly what i was doing during the evening of september 30, 1975: i was fervently praying to jehovah that i would be found worthy, in spite of all my weaknesses and failures, to find his favor and live through the next day, the day that armageddon was happening.

"Put too much stock in Matt. 24:36" is simply an explanation for my pre-1975 reluctance to view 1975 as anything of particular significance. I once announced to the FS cargroup that the 1975 Doctrine was to be rejected because of the scripture, and got a "trimming" from an Elder (but nothing more, because I was still young and unbaptised [also, no apology post-'75 ]). And there were quite a number of people who couldn't muster enthusiasm for the WTS' chronological fantasy (although less than will now claim to have remained undeceived ).
I didn't actually LIE regarding the '75 Expectation, but I certainly did BEND the truth -- and in so doing found myself in plentiful (if not necessarily good) company. Life is full of regrets...

I can honestly say I never believed the hoopla regarding 1975. Put too much stock in Matt. 24:36.
Will reluctantly admit I dishonestly tried to explain away the GB's false prophecy when speaking in Field Service post-1975.
Vitty, you brought tears to my eyes. Don't do that!!!

"Ein deutsches Requiem" is beautiful and appropriate, but would be too long for many to sit through; how about just movement six: "Denn wir haben keine bleibende Statt". The lyrics are (largely) taken from the Luther-Bibel: Hebr.13:14, 1 Cor. 15:51-55, Rev. 4:11. Too bad I'll not be there to enjoy it....
