Would you change your past if you could?
by John Doe ini used to live with many regrets, thinking that i'd screwed up.
recently, i've been thinking that regretting past actions is not constructive.
sure, we should base our current actions by assessing the results of our former actions, but regretting decisions we've made is, in effect, yearning to change the person we are now or rejecting ourselves.

Did you ever hear the song "IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME" So my answer would be YES, YES , YES.........I agree with Terry. No matter what you will always be you, just with a different aittude on things.............there would be so many changes I would make all for the better, never allow a religion to dictate to me or put down any goals I had for myself like it was something evil to God......................oh how I wish I could turn back time,,,,,,,,,,,,the only thing I wouldn't change is meeting my absolutly loving husband.......................he is my soulmate...................

Assemblies suck
by Nosferatu indidn't it drive you up the wall how, after a long week of working or going to school, you had to spend your entire weekend at an assembly?
the saturday and sunday that you could've spent catching up on some yard work, or even relaxing was wasted away by sitting in a bunch of chairs, listening to stuff you've heard many times before.. i know this used to drive me up the wall.
it felt like i had absolutely no time to myself during these weekends.

I loved the assemblies and convention, we always had a great time with family and friends all staying at the same hotels,,,,,,,,,dinners out,,,,,,,,,,,lounging by the pool at night............also at the convention we often would see friends we haven't seen for a while.............so I have happy memories of those times.
Now today I go with a different agenda, I still love being with my family, but I listen very carefully to what is being and said and boy can you pick up alot of double talk...............so we sit and suffer in silence to be with our family.................

Garage sales
by poppers infrom reading this site i've learned that jws frown up buying used clothing etc.
from second hand stores because of possible 'demonization.
' my neighbors are jw and i notice that they have fairly frequent garage sales.

Wait till you read this one. Forget yard or garage sales, An elders wife gave hand me down clothes to a wacko witness for her children, well she calls the elders wife after having the clothes for two days and says her and her husband have been fighting and they never do, so they think those clothes are demonized so could she come get them? What an insult to the kind family ,they saw a need and gave from the heart.............the clothing was promptly picked up by the elder husband and brought to the next congregation who were more than happy to recieve them.................WHAT FLAKES HUH?

Anyone Experience Something Similar After Exiting
by love2Bworldly ini am starting to remember something weird when i left the jw's, but wonder if it's a physchological manifestation of the brainwashing & control they had over me and the guilt trip/fear of being 'bad'.
i remember when i used to look up toward the sky sometimes and pray a silent prayer to jehovah.
after i got disfellowshipped, i felt like when i looked up and thought about god that there was almost a physical ceiling on the other side of the blue sky that curtained me off from jehovah hearing my prayers.

Wow, Quotes, I can't believe I read that stuff and felt "Yep thats right if you are worldly or DFed, God is not listening to your prayers". Oh please forgive me for that thinking. After reading Qoutes post, I see why I felt that way. IT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG FOR THEM TO THINK AND TELL US WHO GOD WILL LISTEN TO AND WHO HE WON'T. I am so sad that is the way I felt.......................it is only Jesus we need in order to talk to our Heavenly Father. I do remember the elders saying to the congregation we are not allowed to pray for DFed people..........at the time I aways prayed for my Brother because I loved him no matter if he was DFed or not............who are they to tell me, a person in good standing with God, who or what my prayers could consist of? See friends everyday we learn something here, that is why it so important to read others reasoning on matters and do some soul searching and you sadly realize how very wrong we were-------------------how dare they come between people and their prayers. If we are not suppossed to pray for DFed ones, then how come the ELDORS can, they are doing something wrong aren't they? IT IS ALL HYPOCRITICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slow Fade Progresses
by TheListener ini wanted to give everyone an update on the current state of my slow fade.
i live in an environment that is hostile to the slow fade so i usually speak in general terms.
this time i plan to give just a little bit more information so i can heal myself as i go through this process.. i have doubted for several years (about 3).

Just take it slow for her sake. It takes time for us wives to accept you guys not wanting to be elders anymore.

Please be assured there will be talk.............then they will slow back off from associating with you because they think something is spiritually wrong with you, why would anyone want to give up being and elder.............
I refer you back to your post of April 12--slow fade ----some advice there for your sweet wife..........
I know how relieved you must feel, but it is only the first step...........

I feel I must speak in behave of the Listener and DMP's wives. Being an elders wife is a very important role in the congregation we work hard to help our elder husbands. And please I speak from experience here: when we are with the friends after you guys step down, guess who gets all the questions when we are alone? US!!! we are just as confused as everyone else, but still want to protect our husbands privacy, so I would say he needs a rest, health problems, worldly family obligations, then his work. It is very hard for us wives because we are the ones looked at with pity like our husband are involved with "WRONGDOING" and we just don't know it. So please my friends realize your wives are going through alot and might need some happy pills to get them through it.................eventually I saw what my hubby saw it took a couple of years, but he never made me feel bad, he knew it would take time, though I do not have that inner peace we all seek..............

Happy to have you with us. You will learn alot and we will learn alot from you. That's how this board works.............you stepped out of a little puddle and are now looking at a big blue ocean......so take it one step at a time, and know there is always someone here to hold your hand if you get a little scared.

I was watching an interesting exchange of Ideas between religious leaders last night on Larry King. There was a Rabbi, Born Again, Catholic Priest, Muslum, and an Atheist. I will admit a year ago I would of clicked right by such a discussion, but I found the topics they were discussing interesting. For the first time, I appreciated another religions point of view instead of dismissing them like they are false and no good and God is going to destroy them in the end. What I came away with after hearing their views on life after death is ----NOBODY KNOWS FOR SURE------------SO ENJOY THIS LIFE NOW BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT WE KNOW FOR SURE!!!!!!!!! That is such a true statement.........they all got along, no fighting, no saying your wrong and we are right--------I found it very enlightening not to have a prejudice attitude.........
Did anyone happen to watch it?
