talesin: i have almost the same exact experience. i wasnt the perfect dub growing up but never did anything wrong, just kind of went with the flow, but there was a kid who was the classic elder's son with a double life, they sent him away it got so bad, well i here he is an elder now and gave a talk at my old hall as a visiting elder, unbelievable! no one calls me the antichrist that i know of, although i'm sure there are plenty of rumors

What Profound ironies do you know about?
by Siddhashunyata inin another thread big tex related a story about the memorial wine that was so ironic that i thought maybe others saw profound irony in some of their experiences.
for example i recall a brother who gave up a military pension 2 years before retirement in order to pioneer for jehovah.. he would deride another brother for working long hours at his business ( auto repair business) and who spent virtually no time in field service.
years passed, the pioneer brother became needy and had to stop pioneering in order to work while the other brother had saved enough to retire and pioneer.

Would the W.T. be open for massive lawsuits if they changed blood policy?
by hubert ini was just thinking of this, because of my last post topic.
if the watchtower changed their no blood policy to accepting whole blood, would and could that .
open the flood gates for law suits from jdubs that sacrificed their children for the tower, or would .

the fact that they have weakened the policy shows that a grand majority dont care what the WT does, they follow blindly. if they were to just drop the whole thing the might help themselves in the long run and wouldnt lose thier loyal core, it looks a lot worse to be flip-flopping, IMHO

A comment I heard tonight
by Generic Man intonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.
the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.
through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.

that just killed me when the loving brothers would make comments such as 'cant you just wait until armageddon so god will destroy (insert random person)', or if someone was rude on service they come back to the group and laugh about they will get theirs when god destroys them, pretty sadisitic

like has been said they are not liable, at least there is no court precedent that makes them liable and if you all are right that they will eventually drop it, unfortunately i dont think it would cause a mass exodus, no major changes before this has. they are pretty good at pulling the wool over the sheeps' eyes.

The Contribution Box
by professor ini have always wondered: to what extent do the elders go to get contributions?.
how closely do you think the elders work with individuals?.
i left the org.

actually probably since my father actually played by the rules might be why he never was named PO or given district convention parts, even though i know he was more than qualified

i dont really know cause even though my father was an elder since before i was born , he was actually a good one in that he never gossiped about the cong to us, i was in the dark about the innerworkings until i found this site really but i dont think that the amt should have mattered as long as you contributed what you could. of course buying the CO a new suit or paying for his cars tune-up probably couldnt hurt matters.

Is 2012 A Marked Year?
by Oroborus21 ini wrote this march 2004 as part of my ongoing (occassional) email series for my friends & family:.
march 13, 2004...?life in la?.
it is close to midnight and i have a million things to do, a thousand worries and a dozen hopes and a lot has happened since the last installment of lila but there is time for that.

i mentioned 2012 in a different thread, i dont really believe in it but it is pretty cool that the mayan calendar, who scientist have stated is one of the most accurate calendars if not the most, points to that date.

Your JW Family: Reason With or `Live' With ?
by Jodo inpersonally, i've kept my thoughts on the "religion" to myself since i faded for fear of shunning.
now i'm starting to turn the other way and am considering taking some risks by talking doctrinal issues when occasions arise, but limiting myself to commenting on matters only on their instigation.
to me at least, that seems less confrontational......and most witnesses can't resist trying to encourage family members back to the fold, which means plenty of opportunities present themselves anyway.. what about you?

i really want to reason with them but my fear that they would shun me has not allowed it. they almost shunned me before and if i brought up anything that could be interpreted as apostate i fear that my father would blame himself for not shunning me all along like he should have been, especially if i were able to plant a seed of doubt.

More offensive Dubbie twaddle...
by Abaddon ini stayed at my parents this weekend, as i was over in the uk seeing my kids and rather than stay in exteer as i normally do i did a day return.
sunday morning over breakfast, before they went off to the meeting and i went back to holland, my dad mentioned the wt article.. apparently it was about loy, and how about the new light is that, rather than being a sick sick man who wanted to give his virgin daughters to a gay rape gang (i always did wonder about that one... daughters.... gay rape gang), he was simply playing for time and waiting for god to do something.. i find it hard to believe that even the watchtower would be quite so stupid, but there you go.. funny thing was my parents reaction when i responded.
i was a bit offended by the twaddle but thought i'd go in sideways rather than with my arms swinging, so i said "i think it is very unwise for us today to interpret the actions of a bronze-age pastoralist".

its funny how for some things its ok to read more into than whats there, but for soemthing that could actually impact your life (read blood transfusions) the scripture leaves no room for interpretation or common sense
