Which meeting did you hate the most?
by lfcviking infor me it was the tuesday night book study.
i didn't like reading, opening/closing with prayers and the uncomfortable, close, claustrophobic setting it was in.
this meeting was the first one to be binned when i started to fade.

JWs: Biggest Turnover Rate of Members! "Masked churn" rate of 2/3rds!!
by Seeker4 inan article just out this afternoon said the following.
note especially the second paragraph about jws: .
for some groups, their relatively steady number of adherents over the years hides a remarkable amount of coming and going.

there are like 5 threads on this, may want to combine some. Just a few days ago there was a different article stating that JWs were one of the only religions experiencing growth, it didn't mention the churn though. Thats good news, too bad in my family the churn rate is only 25%, it was 50 for a while but they got one back.

I'm 18 and I want my baptism undone.
by LtCmd.Lore ini was recently informed that i have the legal right to have my baptism nullified.
but apparently there is a time limit on it.
i have to do this before i turn 19. if i succeed, they will announce at a meeting that i was never a jehovahs witness, and i will not be disfellowshiped or disassociated.. i should also point out that i was baptised at age 9.

just fade and move away, go to college or something, your family probably won't shun you and if you fade and stay the elder might come looking for a reason to df you. it worked for me, i even joined the military and i'm still not shunned by my parents. of course i keep my views about their religion to myself which is hard but you can't have everything i guess.

Why don't Lurkers Post?
by sweet pea inwhen i came to the realisation that my whole religious upbringing was in question and i was led to this site, i immediately wanted to get involved - i could see that there was a lot of caring, spiritual people here that had created an amazing community and i wanted to be a part of that community (to release some pent up feelings and to maybe help others in some way) but having read that many of you guys lurked for months and in some cases years before you finally posted - i'm intrigued as to why?????
was it selfishness - couldn't bring yourself to commit and be a part of the community, you were just content to observe?
was it laziness?

Is it possible to be declined credit for having credit that is too good?
by Elsewhere inthe other day i was making substantial purchase and wanted to take advantage of the advertised "12 months no interest" deal.
i have excellent credit, however my application was denied.
the girl at the checkout couldn't tell me why, only that it was denied.

closing accounts hurts your credit score. do you know your score or did you just check the report?

Will the WTBTS come to an end?
by pierogi incults come and go so do you think the wtbts will eventually come to an end?
i think about this sometimes and i wonder if i will live to see it.
the reason why i want it to end is because i don't like the administration.

i dont think it ever will. hearing my parents convinces me of that, no matter how much the "light" changes not only do they accept it they seem thrilled about it like they are witnesses to the spirit of God or something.

I got the 'prodigal son' treatment from my parents last night
by mavie inyep, i opened a letter and received a highlighted 5 page print out from the watchtower library cd.
i find it somewhat insulting they think i'm lost and wasting my life.
i'm curious to see how others have responded to this kind of treatment..

everytime i see my parents i have to endure the 5-10 minute speech "encouraging" me to return, that I shouldn't be afraid, etc. They also leave me the latest book which promptly finds its way to the recycling bin as soon as they leave. I don't ever say anything just listen, maybe roll my eyes. I wish we could actually have a debate but I am fairly certain that they would cut all ties if I said anything even close to criticism, we even turn around or hide our "objectianable" material when they come, ie Harry Potter, Crisis of Conscience, etc.

Some JW's will never see the light
by Pwned ini heard my father telling my sister that yesterday's watchtower study contained new information, ie 'new light'.
the thing is he was excited about it, said it gave him goosebumps.
how does that even make any sense?

How does that even make any sense? Why would you be happy to know that until now they either had it wrong or lied, both of which make it fairly obvious that they are not the mouthpiece or whatever of god. Its just annoying.

How many JWs do you know do the turkey-thing (Thanksgiving) each year?
by cyberguy inits amazing how jws operate.
when i was an active jw in florida (usa), many jw families had a turkey dinner with friends and family on thanksgiving day!
in fact, a number of elders participated in these family get-togethers, they just happened to have a turkey dinner on the same day as the thanksgiving holiday (usa).
