I was at the 1958 assembly at Yankee Stadium. It was so blasted hot I couldn't stand it sitting in the bleachers. I got very sunburned. However, I was fortunate that my father lived in New York and he would drop me off at the stadium and pick me up afterward. My father actually drove from New York to Baltimore, picked up me and my sister who wanted to visit him. After the assembly was over he drove us back to Baltimore. It was such a kindness on his part because he detested Jehovah's Witnesses and insisted it was a fad with me and I would grow out of it. Of course after the meeting was over, my father took me and my sister to the bars and got drunk, took cases of beer home and my sister got drunk and I got tipsy. That was the best part of the whole experience. As a matter of fact I have a picture of me, my sister and father taken at one of the bars we visited but none of the assembly.
Englishman said he was at the assembly then also. Bet we saw each oher. Small world if we did.

Why do/don't you believe in God
by LouBelle innow for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.
for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.
i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.

I don't believe in God. Evolution did it for me.

Porky?
by Low-Key Lysmith inin leu of all these threads lately about what attracts us to the opposite (or same) sex, i was wondering if any of y'all out there share my love for the ladies (or gentlemen, if in your case) to have a little "junk in the trunk" or "cushion for the pushin'"?
i like really voluptuous women.
not obese, mind you, but some chunkyness is okay by me.

Jeff, the heat is already on here and it is just as you described it! 101 with rising temperatures tomorrow and Wednesday.I only have two small window a/c's and they're not enough to keep it comfortable. I'm still sweating. In the area where I live we are always having power outages. I may go on a rampage if it happens. I heard it is supposed to cool off here by Thursday. Hope you got some cooling by now.

What is your quirkiest quirk?
by damselfly ini, damselfly, can not knowingly eat the little squiggly, umbilical cord things in eggs.
i have to very carefully separate the whites from the yolk and remove the squiggly bits with a knife.
i get gaggy just thinking about them.

Something else I do. I hold my breath in an elevator filled with people so I don't breathe their germs. Of course, I almost pass out if it's a slow elevator.

I think like Thom. Whenever there is an international crisis, I think to myself, oh, oh, Armageddon.

Well, this thread is becoming voluminous. I'm sure Kitty will continue to love her pit bulls now matter what is posted here. It's not what's posted but the tone of language used. I will probably be in trouble for trying to keep the peace here but here are two analogies:
You usually don't stop caring for someone even if you been extremely mistreated; the battered woman for instance. Many of them still love the one who battered them.
Take the gun for instance. How many times have we heard "it's not guns that kill, it's the people that shoot them."
I'm not taking sides here. I expressed my opinion in an earlier post.

I also have the public bathroom ritual of not touching anything in it without wads of paper towels....especially going out the door. It also extends to restaurants. I wrap a napkin around the salt and pepper before I use it.
