When I first converted to JW's, I found it very exciting. Didn't take long for the novelty to wear off. I liked being a Witness because I liked being part of a religion that was different. I didn't like field service (felt like a hypocrite,) WT study was too long and lord, how I hated the MS meeting. The weekly book study was all I really liked It was the paradise earth that kept me there so long.

Did you enjoy being a JW?
by JH inevery time i went to a meeting, book study, or whatever, the great majority of people looked as if they were truly happy to be a jw.
their smiles looked genuine.
they seemed to love talking to each other.. i, on the other hand, wasn't really happy to be at the meetings.

So sorry this happened to you. Sounds like you have been going through many tribulations lately. I am glad though that you are alive and not more seriously injured than you are.
If you are away for a spell, don't forget us and hurry back because we will miss you.

Does anytone 'wince' when they hear people talking about God/Jesus etc?
by PaulJ ini went to a born-again christian church wedding a couple of weeks ago.
in so many ways it was like a kingdum hall.... and the person conducting the wedding was jesus this jesus that..... i just want to roll my eyes.. i think its because i been preached 'at' so much in my life as a dub i dont want to hear it anymore.
maybe im getting my head round the idea that beliefs and worship are best kept to yourself..... anyone else feel like this?

It seems there are few places I can escape god-talk; friends, family and the workplace. Yes, I wince. I listen, but all the while I am thinking "oh, someone please get me away from this." It makes me nearly insane and judgmental toward people directing this talk to me.

144000 and counting
by joelbear inneo's thread on the neophyte gb members brought up a thought that i've had for a long time.
the 144000 were supposed to be the first 144000 who became christians.
peter baptized 3000 in one day in the first century.

Looks like you folks did your math on this topic. I wish I had been able to add when I was a Witness.

Matthew 12:43-45 Did the Devil Have His Way With You Too?
by prophecor inmatthew 12:43-45 "when an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through parched places in search of a resting-place, and finds none.
then it says, ' i will go back to my house out of which i moved ' and on arriving it finds it unoccupied but swept clean and adorned.
then it goes its way and takes and takes along with it seven different spirits more wicked than itself, and, after getting inside they dwell there; and the final circumstances of that man become worse than the first.. .

I suffer from manic-depression. Once, as a Witness I had a particularly severe episiode of it. A psychiatrist was out of the question for me since the Witnesses told me they were controlled by demons, so I sought help from the elders ((mature ones in the truth). I was told by them that I didn't have enough faith in Jehovah, I didn't pray enough, attend enough meetings, and eventually lost Jehovah's spirit and my mind became empty as the scriptural analogy applies in Matthew and demons took over. In other word's I didn't have my mind filled with thoughts of Jehovah so the demons took over. That is how it was explained to me. Do you think their analysis made me better? Hell, no. It sent me into a real tailspin. So you see, I brought my illness on myself! According to the Witnesses, I was not mentally unstable, but demonized, regardless of a doctor's diagnosis. I will never forgive the b **&&&& for that!
Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

You crammed a lot into your vacatio, Tetra. So glad you had a great time. It's wonderful being free, isn't it? The counter-culture was always and still is an attraction for me.

I love mine dearly. I have a long haired cat named Jazzy and a German Shepherd, dog named Jipsee. I was thinking today about all the pets who perished in Katrina. Anyway, here in Maryland we had Hurricane Isabel two years ago in September. Flooded all of downtown Baltimore and devastated the counties near the water. I live in the city not far from downtown and I can't swim. So, I thought, "I'll buy myself a life jacket in case of another storm surge--and also buy one for my animals." I suppose this is possible. I don't believe I have ever seen life jackets for animals advertised but I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

That was a good post. You posted some information I was unaware of. For instance, that there were buses prior to the storm to evacuate those who would leave. I don't know how reliable your sources are but assuming they are, you have made some interesting points.
