so i just got back from the convention - yes, feel pity on me... i had to attend all three days, spend money on a crappy hotel, sleep in a crappy town, sit on my ass for 8 hours a day, and all just to hear about the same old crap you can read in any watchtower.
i didn't take notes because not only would my head have exploded from the sheer boredom and stupidity, but i would be responsible for all your heads exploding as well.
are there any highlights?
urgh. you poor thing daniel. Did you feel at all inclined to rebel against the attendants. like walking around during the session or not going to your seat when told to after lunch?
we have been going almost every weekend to an indian casino about 25 minutes north of us for about a year.
we have so much fun and i usually win, but have taken some bad losses too.. in the last 3 weeks, i have won about $2500!
i am still in shock.. i only play slot machines and have started playing one called cropper dropper for $2.70 a pull, that really pays well when it pays.

One time my man and I were playing the pokies (slot machines). We never play them normally. Well we put in $20 and it was going amazingly! Soon we had won $180. Then a brother from the neighbouring congregation that I attended walked around and saw us. Well you should have seen his surprise to see me sitting there gambling. He couldn't say anything though as we know that he takes drugs, smokes, drinks to excess and has sleep overs with women who aren't his wife....!
one of the worst things that a lot of people are scared of, is terrorism.
its an invisible enemy, to be honest i've stopped watching the news since it just got me down.. at a convention at the manchester evening news arena (used to be nynex arena) in manchester, there was a briefcase found.
no one claimed it and in the end it was thought to be a possible bomb.
I remember at a Sydney, Australia convention at the SCG. We were sitting up in the high seats. One of the girls with us went to go to the bathroom. There was a brother guarding the stairwell and sent her back to her seat. Weird...
The talk finished and an announcement was made that everyone sitting in our part of the stadium was to be evacuated. Well people started getting the hell out of there as fast as they could. Being at the top it was a slow process to get down. By the time we got down there we were told it was too late and we were directed to go and sit in the very far corner. There was about 30 of us in total.
Someone had left a parcel lying around and the bomb squad had been called in. I tell you we were pretty nervous being the only ones left sitting there! Every one was just staring at the tiny group still left sitting there. It was horrible.
P.S. it wasn't a bomb.

All my encounters with people from this forum have left me in the most delightful mood!
as i have talked about before, i have a serious bleeding disorder, not hemophilia though.
back in the dark ages of the '70s, the medical term used was "pseudo-hemophilia".
because i did not get appropriate medical care (thanks to the wts), i spent many hours during meetings sitting in the smelly ladies room at the kh trying to control my nosebleeds.
We had a hemophiliac guy in our congregation. The suffering that guy went through. The cold hearted treatment from the congregation. The way he was treated as marked because he was different and it was something to do with 'blood'. He got addicted to pain killers and ended up in a rehab centre. Which just made his situation worse. I considered him a friend but it was horrible to see him completely screwed over like that.
though i no longer think like a witness i still think "that is what i would think if i was still a witness".. everytime i see a birthday party or christmas on tv i think "ohh, if i was a jw i would think they were pagan, and not really having fun.".
when i speak to someone at work and they say they got drunk or wasted on the weekend i think "oooh, if i was a jw i would be offended by that, but i don't really care anymore.".
i would much prefer to be able to take life for what it is, not constantly compare what it was with what it is and what i am thinking it will be.. any suggestions on how to erase the ridiculous notions that were drummed into me from birth?

It makes me laugh and believe it or not its making me less suscetible (spelling?) to those types of thoughts.
i had a long conversation last night with an old jw friend whose sister and brother-in-law are bethelites since the 1970s.
she is an artist, and he runs a small but important department there.. we were talking about the bethel downsizing (my friend was well aware of it), and i told him i figured his sister and b-i-l would be safe due to the fact that they are now in their 60s and have something close to 4 decades seniority.
but he said no, that they were worried that they would be asked to leave as well, sent into the circuit work or as special pioneers sent where the "need is great.".
My thoughts on this matter....
If they went to Bethel considering it a lifetime assignment and have been there for some years then perhaps they have no work skills? Are they going to be forced out in to the big wide world expected to support themselves with no skills? I feel for these people. They are in for rude shocks.
so it was just brought to my attention that the nov 1, 1999 watchtower, while still strongly discouraging voting, says:.

as to whether they will personally vote for someone running in an election, each one of jehovahs witnesses makes a decision based on his bible-trained conscience and an understanding of his responsibility to god and to the state.
Its funny because when this 'new light' was revealed it was also strongly emphasised how much of a conscience matter this was. How you could potentially stumble someone if they were to see you enter a polling place. Like Blondie said

In Australia it is compulsary to vote. If you do not you are sent a letter by the Electoral Commission and you have the choice of either paying the fine or writing back a letter outlining your reasons for not voting. Edited to Add: It was a real pain in the bum!!!
