Not sure about the meaning of life, but the happiest people seem to be those who put themselves last and make real sacrifices for others. I'm a miserable so and so.

What is it all about? This life.
by dh indo you ever have those days, weeks, months, or even years where you just feel like your entire existence is completely pointless, when time has shot by and you feel like you have done none of the things that you set out to do so many years prior.
when you feel like you have been standing still forever.. you work your routine and live your life, maybe have some friends, but when you go to sleep at night you still feel like there is nothing, no point or reason or meaning for any of it, like life is a void, and all your actions, feelings and everything about you is simply designed to distract you from the fact that there is nothing, and if you're lucky you're so distracted that you never notice it at all.
it's like some insane cylce and you can never break it, no matter what you do or how you try.

memorial advice please?
by jaffacake ini've been invited to a memorial on thursday.
i'm currently unsure of my beliefs (somewhere between agnostic and christian, with an interest in science).
i have been baptised twice - catholic by sprinkling, and seventh day adventist by immersion - and have partaken of the bread & wine in both religions (although come to think of it, the catholic priest always kept the wine for himself).

Narkissos,
Thanks for advice, I could have really made an error of judgement. What do you mean, nobody partakes? Would I really have been the only one? Why do many religions have strict rules about who can partake of bread & wine and whether they are deemed worthy? We try to do many things Jesus asked us to do without it being given some restricted ritual meaning. As it happens I do feel unworthy due to my doubts about beliefs, but did Jesus say anything to suggest someone like me should not partake?

why would any so called Christian book be restricted? Is the Bible restricted? I suppose the answer is yes - we should only read their version and only with their interpretations.

Its easy for me to say cos I've never been a JW but I wouldn't give up yet. I have a close friend soon to be baptized a JW but I'm writing questions to him which I hope will plant seeds of real doubt. If someone can tell me how to send you a word doc I'll do so in case any of my well researched coments/questions would help.

Been searching scriptures for "salvation"
by jaffacake ini?ve been given a nwt bible, but don't understand how jws believe as they do.
why does the ?bible topics for discussion?
include some issues, eg celebrating birthdays, that seem less important compared with the question of how to attain salvation.

When we beleive we are saved and with that simple act we have salvation and can be no more condemed than the father can condemn christ. Justification is 100% is allways ours because only perfection can save us.
So I guess my next question is what do we mean by "believing"?
Where does it say that not all who say Lord, Lord will be saved (or something like that).

Scriptures are copyrighted????
by researcher insome of you may have seen this... http://www.desinger.com/scriptures/conclusion.html.
it's really annoying that the 'legal department' weilds such a hyprocritical stick.
imagine them actually thinking that they 'own' the scriptures????

I can understand why copyright might apply because from what I have seen NWT is an original work of fiction rather than word of God. Sorry if this offends anyone but the deliberate alteration of Scriptures, so something says the opposite of what was there before, is not just another translation.

"Battle" over Evolution
by IronGland inwashington post article, i boldened some of the points that really made me go .
wichita a??
propelled by a polished strategy crafted by activists on america's political right, a battle is intensifying across the nation over how students are taught about the origins of life.

Don't some people believe in the Bible, and a creator, but also in a universe created billions of years ago in a big bang or whatever. Perhaps the creation story of genesis, also satan being a fallen angel etc are just parables or illustrations to help primitive humans to get a feel for where we came from, the negative side of human nature etc?
