  JWs an adventist offshoot?

  isn't it correct to describe the jws as an adventist offshoot and therefore part of the wider protestant world?

  they obviously have no connection to the apostolicc church despite their claims.

  for example they got the 1914 date and the just once a year ritual of the bread and wine from the adventists so where do they really belong?

  Hi

  I was mistaken in my memory about the annual memorial. Another adventist reminded me it was quarterly for adventists.

  However, JWs have adopted many many adventist beliefs, eg just falling asleep when we die...until resurrected. Actually, in my research I have yet to find any teaching that originated or is exclusive to Jws, but shhh...that's their best kept secret which they perpetuate by ensuring their flock lead a very sheltered life.

  They are also influenced by Christadelphians, and by the 4the century heresy of Arianism. But yes their heritage is Protestant, except they started hating all other branches Christian religion after Rutherford's coup to take over.

  Study the New Testament (preferably any version except NWT) and meditate on its meaning without using any Watchtower literature.

  Read the Ray Franz books (from Commentary Press website) Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom

  Read Crisis of Conscience by Don Cameron

  Read What the Bible Really Teaches by Keith Ward

  Spend some time on this website and research and search for Truth.

  How do you choose......

  i was born and raised a jw.... right now i know i am still going through the deprogramming, but in the pit of my stomach i so want to believe in something.

  i don't know if it is because i always have had a regular "schedule" with god, but to leave and not believe anymore to me is very lonely.

  where do you start?

  The little book I recommend to everyone to see past the sincere but superstitious erroneous reading of scriptures is:

  What the Bible Really Teaches by Keith Ward

  After running in circles for years wondering why this religion contradicts that, and wht apparent contradictions within the Bible, this helped me get the whole thing. Almost a Eureka moment for me a few months ago. Hope it helps. Best I've read since Ray Franz and Don Cameron, but does not even mention Witnesses.

  i just picked up "the american religion" by harold bloom.

  he reviews and critiques american born religions and has a chapter on jw's.. here's some quotes i loved:.

  opening sentence of chapter- " every national faith is bound to call forth it's antitype, and ours has produced it's antithesis in the pecularily stark phenomenon of the jehovah's witnesses.".

  im hurt, desperate, confused and considering this religion - advice?

  like the subject title says, i'm hurt, desperate and confused and don't know what to do anymore.

  i'm so desperate to have something to live for that i'm considering converting to something like the jehovah's witnesses.

  i know this might seem a bit extreme but please hear me out.

  Just read your follow up post.

  I was a Catholic as a child and then converted to a 'drastic' religion - Seventh Day Adventist. I know what you mean, some folks at some points in their lives need an authority people to tell them what to do, not to do, what to think, how to think etc etc - the JW religion will do all that and more. I am not part of any organised religion at present and have become more enlightened than ever before through reading and research . People on this board will perhaps disagree with me but after many years of rejection of my former religions, I now look for the good in them and would not dissuade you from worshiping with Catholics or some others.

  SDAs are much safer than JWs, so long as you don't believe they are the only true religion. In fact I could tell you precisely why they and JWs are mistaken. SDAs, JWs and all fundamentalist Christians are 'drastically' wrong, if you believe in the Bible. If you want to try Catholicism, why not, it can do no harm in my opinion, I no longer believe Catholics to be 'of Satan' as both SDAs and JWs tried to teach me.

  For my sister Buddhism gives her peace, but each to their own. Further advice, dont make any rash life changing decisions quickly, please take your time, get to know folks & axchange experiences & ideas.

  Welcome, please stick around a while.

  I have seen the good advice that others have already offered, which I agree with. The advice offered by JGNAT & others is worth taking note of.

  Please believe me, the last thing you need now is to join a religion like Jehovah's Witnesses, although there are many other Christian groups that are 'safe' in my opinion. I know because of what is now happening to my beloved friends.

  Christianity, God, religion, may all help you - I am a Christian and the Bible has certainly been a factor in my own fight against depression. However, if that is how you feel, spirituality should not take the place of proper medical help and support.

  If and when you wish to find a way through the confusion of religious and biblical understanding, please don't go join a cult or any religion that believes it has all the answers. When the time is right I can recommend some reading should you wish to pm me sometime. Hopefully this would help you make informed choices.
