.
i believe in miracles.
even the birth of a new born is a miracle.. there is no such thing as luck.. hibiscusfire
What some describe as miracles happen all the time to people whether they are good or bad, Christian or athiest, whether the pray or not.
By the same token, unbelievably terrible things happen to all sorts of people too. Is the good person who changes travel plans at the last minute and gets killed in an accident experiencing an anti-miracle? When an evil person experiences the things you describe as miracles, what then?
We use superlatives too easily. Please think for one minute, please read other folks opinions, please don't just respond with a reflex action. I'm a Christian but we really have to think about what we're saying.
here in quebec, one funny expression people say is "donne a manger a un cochon, et il viendra chier sur ton perron" .
word for word in english this would mean: feed a pig, and he will shit on your porch.
in other words, sometimes you try to be nice to people, and they don't always try to be nice to you in return.. .
"I'm not superstitious....its unlucky to be superstitious!"
.
i am not trying to compete with fmz as he has a supernatural thread going already but - do you secretlyt wish for a demon attack - serious question - the reason i ask this is because - if i had a demon attack it would mean there was a satan the devil and if there was a satan it would mean there was god.
what i am trying to say in a nutshell is "a demon attack would actually strengthen my faith" where at the moment it is non-existent almost
Loubelle,
Perhaps if you experienced it you'd believe.
Where does the notion come from? JWs? the Bible? people's experiences?
I have experienced strange phenomena occasionally in my life at times, and even if something in the future feels like a demon attack, I would not believe. I would however believe I had experienced something I could not explain, perhaps my imagination filling in the gaps...but I would not believe in superstition.
I could not bring myself to believe it when I was an atheist/agnostic. And I believe in such superstition even less now since I have rekindled my interest in Scriptures and Christianity. I don't think its possible to believe in Christ and demons, is it?
we trudge along in our little lives, worrying about bills and disagreeing about who should put away the laundry, then whammo!!!
the love of your life can be gone in an instant.. we returned from a weekend trip visiting family and suddenly my husband was vomiting blood, lots of it.
he was in the er within 30 minutes and in the icu in another 30 minutes.
You are so right, I know just how you are feeling. I feel less alone reading of others experiences.
.
i understand from a post yesterday that ouija boards were consulted by bethel during rutherford's reign.. anyone have any further details.
Not heard that, but I believe they had something called an 'Abrams black box' or something, which was spiritualistic or something, was used at Bethel.
May have been in the days they published stuff in the watchtower about being guided by Russell after his death 'from beyond the veil'
I think the device was believed to give yes/no answers from the spirit world.
I'll try to dig out the source, possibly 'fast facts about JWs'. Not sure how reliable.
one society thing that drives me crazy is trying to scare us by quoting the scripture about one who knows the truth and leaves is worse off than others who have never known the truth.. question: if every non-jw is going to die at armageddon, how can someone who leaves be worse off?
are they going to die more than the others?.
nice lips brooke
The Elder who I was studying with has stopped calling. During one of the last discussions about the FDS etc, he quoted 'the wages of sin is death'. I quoted scriptures about 'all have sinned...'
I asked whether JWs were sinners? (answer - Yes)
I asked, what even the FDS? (answer - yes)
I asked, what, even the governing body? (answer - yes)
I asked what would happen to the FDS and faithful JWs at Armageddon, would they be killed, then resurrected later? I think he said they would not die!? I asked about 'the wages of sin being death and when would they pay for their sins?
No answer, change of subject...
What was wrong with my question?
i spent many many years peforming on the cello before becoming a witness at 18 and being encouraged to quit all my symphony associations etc which i obediently did.
i was a soloist once with a community symphony and it was a wonderful experience!
i have a recording of the concerto i performed.
the radio
Guitar for me & my teenage son. Daughter plays clarinet & wife just took up saxophone. None of us very well, cover your ears!
last nite they announced i was an unbaptized publisher.
everyone clapped and there was much congratulations from everyone after it was over.
my girlfriend has never been happier.
Buck,
I'm so sorry because I now you know the truth. You sound almost proud!?
Perhaps you can sneak back later, and secretly drop some literature into the post boxes of any interested persons you make contact with, telling them where they can find out the facts about JWs. That way you need not feel so guilty about selling such a harmful product to unsuspecting, vulnerable people.
Perhaps you should review some of the advice offered on the older thread, did you ever read any of it?
president confuses science and belief, puts schoolchildren at risk
washington - "president bush, in advocating that the concept of 'intelligent design' be taught alongside the theory of evolution, puts america's schoolchildren at risk," says fred spilhaus, executive director of the american geophysical union.
"americans will need basic understanding of science in order to participate effectively in the 21st century world.
Who said anything about hating America?
Unless you mean not supporting Bush = hating America?
Some might say Bush that his attitude and policies do a lot of harm to America, which those who love that country find it hard to bear.
But then I'm English and therefore not really qualified to comment, except the notion of 'loving' a country, any country, has always felt just a bit odd to me. Sometimes I'm proud to be British, other times ashamed, it depends what is going on at the time.
