  Watchtower study - so long and so boring

  i remember going to sunday meetings...the public talks went by fast (sometimes).

  but the watchtower study to me was so boring and not interesting at all.

  it felt longer than the public talk.

  I started doing my reviews over 10 years ago, though they have evolved over time mostly because the meetings were so boring.

  Comments consisted of:

  One-word answers from children who had no clue what they were saying. (ages 2 to 10)

  Answers read word for word from the paragrph by JWs baptized for 10 years or more

  Answers with the words from the paragraph rotated to make it appear they weren't reading from the paragraph.

  Answers prefaced by

  "The pararaph says"

  "The article says"

  "The slave says"

  As the conductor tries to get a scripture read

  The same 2 sisters always raise their hand and are called on (not me); read scripture but never make application

  Out of 20 paragraphs, and a possible 40 comments, only 2 are from elders or MS.

  The conductor takes up 10 minutes trying to coax answers out of the children who like their parents just saw the inside of the magazine that morning.

  did the serpent lose legs or feet as means of movement as a result of the divine curse recorded at genesis 3:14?.

  at genesis 3:14 we are told: "and jehovah god proceeded to say to the serpent: ?because you have done this thing, you are the cursed one out of all the domestic animals and out of all the wild beasts of the field.

  I think you should not read into my post beyond of what I have written, I think I'm pretty consistent with all my posting and respect other people opinion without labeling them as stupid. (No self-respecting academic would ever do that.) Something that many people here can learn from I'd imagine. I don't care about Genesis account, all I pointed out was that it is not entirely "stupid" idea that snake may have had legs. (that's all, so let's leave it at that)

  I'm open minded enough to at least consider all possibilities without labeling them as outlandish.

  I do not know enough about Hebrew theology to be able to make judgment what was meant as figurative and what as literal. What I do know is that there's still a lot to be learned and discovered before we know full story. Labeling something as stupid basically closed the door to reach any level of rationality about the issue at hand.

  By the way by insisting that it is "stupid idea" you are using same tactic as many religionists. Which only lead to quorrel and opposing side will never listen. So what are you gaining? At least I do try to use science in all my arguments without resorting to labeling.

  I think people here are way too much focused on "proving" that WTS is wrong, to me its like trying to prove that moron really needs psychiatric attention. What's to prove???
  Move on.

  p.s. and that about whether it was possible that snake had legs 6000 years ago I don't know but I know that above photo was taken 2 years ago, go figure. I'd imagine that that part of original DNA sequence may still be hiding somewhere.

  Do Your Neighbors Think You're Nuts?

  do you socialize with your neighbors?

  everyone knows how we as a religious group only socialized with each other, then when inside the hall, we only associated with a select few, those who were deemed worthy of our association.

  now that you are out, or in varying degrees of staying within the borg, are you allowing yourself to get out and mingle amongst those in your community?

  Yeah, WTS really screws your life so much so that you can't relate to your neighbors. And who is there first at the time of crisis? Usually neighbors not "brothers" and "sisters"
  Actually JWs are there only when you need company for barbeque or lunch.
  So you might as well invite neighbors they'll appreciate it much more. (JW would think that's what you must do, so that they would think of you as a "spiritual bro" - just screw them, hell I'd invite whole neighborhood)

  loud, demanding, boorish, mean, cantankerous, boozy, critical, flirtatious, foul-mouthed and generally obnoxious in every possible way.

  It's so much easier when you accept people for who they are, you usually can't change them anyway, so why waste time trying ... if they are generally good that's the best anyone can hope for.

  And how is that gonna stop them from eating? They are all couch potatoes anyway, of course they'll eat. That's their favorite pastime - eating. Eating when watching tv, eating when going out, hell even their favorite time in school is lunch time.

  Give them something useful to do that doesn't remind them how hungry they are supposed to feel....
