Mr. Snowbird and I Are Reconciling
by snowbird inwe've agreed to compromise on our differences and support each other through the years we have left.. i'm seeing a psychiatrist today to deal with my difficulties that stem from a traumatic and tumultuous childhood.. he is willing to yield in his beliefs that a man should control everything and make all the decisions.. being a stubborn jamaican, i realize how hard that is for him.. we're going to renovate the house so that he has his own quarters.. that way, my boisterous g'kids won't work his nerves too badly.. just wanted to put it out there.. syl.

I would like your input on this statement found in old "Zion's Day Star" advertisement. Is this true?
by AndersonsInfo in"truth never changes, our views of it may change...".
can this argument be used by religions like watch tower that often change the slant of their doctrinal interpretations to justify the change?.

I believe it comes down to how someone's "view" is presented. If, as has been discussed above, it is a "current theory," then it can certainly be changed with greater knowledge without loss of credibility. However, if the "view" is not open to debate, if, in fact, to question the "view" is to risk public humiliation (aka disfellowshipping), then any changes cannot be justified. (IMO)

Essan: Precisely!
Why allow people whose "view of the truth changes" to make life and death decisions for my family and me? Or even life altering decisions?

Saturday Morning Musings ...
by snowbird inone hot, hot thursday, in july of 1987, i worked a half day, drove from wilcox county to mobile county to pick up a sister, then hit i-10 for new orleans to attend the convention which began the next day.. the evening traffic was unbelievable; when i finally arrived and pulled into our hotel parking lot, i was shaking like a leaf in the wind.
we checked in, and after showering, i fell into bed and slept like a drunk person.. the next morning, friday, was a complete blur as we made our way to the superdome.
i don't remember anything that was discussed that day, just the searing heat as we returned to the hotel.. after a long shower, i again fell into a deep slumber.

Making sandwiches in a hotel room. Cracking eggs on the side of a dresser and washing the dishes in the small bathroom sink. Bleah. Sitting in the bleachers because we refused to join the throng racing for seats when the doors were opened. Aching back, aching feet. Bored, crying children. Bored, trying not to cry me. Having to get up extra early on Sunday to do the usual plus pack and check out so we could drive home directly after the last session. Have to stop remembering now...I feel one of my spells coming on.

My dad wont make it too much longer, advise/experiences needed
by Coffee House Girl inhello all at jwn,.
so my mom called to tell me that my dad wont be able to come back home, he has been on kidney dialysis (along with having congestive heart failure and diabetes and dimentia...) but now he is breaking down and will have to be admitted to a hospice center for the remainder of his time left (without dialysis wont be two weeks).
most of you know my situation, faded (not dfd or dad) but most of my family treats me like i am disfellowshipped except my mom and she keeps getting warnings from elders to cut off dealings with me- my dad is inactive but as head of the household he demands that i be able to visit and take care of mom and dad (so my mom must be submissive to his wishes).

"Overlapping Generations"... one year later...
by Alfred inwow, it's hard to believe it's already been about a year since this subject was covered in the wt study at kindgom halls around the globe... let's read it just one more time, so we don't forget just how ridiculous this sounded when we first read it.... watchtower (study edition), april 15th, 2010 issue, pages 27-29:.
"this magazine has long been used by the faithful and discreet slave as the primary channel for dispensing increased light.
... what does this explanation mean to us?

Where else would such a ridiculous explanation not be attacked from within. Yes, within one generation there are varying ages, but no one has ever suggested, or ever would suggest, that my greatgrandfather and I are of one generation. Do we consider Teddy Roosevelt a baby boomer?
