If we are to follow in Christ's footsteps, shouldn't that include noting his age at baptism?

they brag about the fact that they the don' t baptize their babies because "how can a baby 'know' what religion it wants to believe in the rest of it's life!".
but a 14 year old does?.....they put so much presure on their children to get dunked, that if your not baptize by 18 years old there is something really "wrong" with you.. so the poor kid does it, just to get everyone off their backs.
legally a minor can't be held to a contract if they are under 18 years old and why?
If we are to follow in Christ's footsteps, shouldn't that include noting his age at baptism?

this business is well ended.. my liege, and madam, to expostulate.
PS "Brevity is the soul of wit" is one of my favorite lines.

Religion is a snare and a racket.
a few nights ago, mrs. ghost and i joined her family for a nice dinner on the occasion of her parents' anniversary.
they are all witnesses and decent folks--not elders or "big shots," but as far as i can tell they all buy into the jw stuff.
it was a pleasant evening, with a lot of reminiscing on the part of the in-laws.
Someone said to me recently that the "preaching work is more for us than for those we preach to." I said, "So it's just busy work to keep us out of trouble?" She laughed and said "And isn't that a good thing!"
In any other place in life, work, school, etc., a person would be offended to be assigned "busy work." It implies a lack of trust in the person--in his or her abilities, integrity, work ethic, intelligence.
They make me tired.

the wts has sent a letter to all convention overseers expressing their increasing concern at sisters "directing brothers" at district conventions.. with immediate effect (ie for dc 2008), sisters are no longer to be used as volunteers in parking and security / watchman departments.
any sisters volunteering in other departments (eg toilet cleaning) must be subordinate & follow the direction of appointed brothers.
this move will put a huge burden on the dcs in my area - nearly half the volunteers for parking are sisters and there aren't enough volunteers as it is.
Well, us broads are so vain you know...
why doesn't it occur to my friends and family that.... for one hundred years (give or take) we could prove via scriptures and greek translation that the generation jesus referred to meant that no one born in 1914 would die before the end came.. then that changed (in 1995), but we were able to prove the new "understanding" via scriptures and greek translation.. now the "understanding" is changing again.
but i'm sure we can still prove it via scripture and greek translation.. what will we be able to prove next?.

This must be a joke, right? I've never seen sisters in parking lot detail. They never would've been considered would they? We can't carry microphones, how could we park cars?
However, I once was allowed to direct sisters to the appropriate stall to pee in. At the district conventions, there was a problem with long lines at the women's restrooms. Naturally, the brothers decided this was because women were too stupid to discern that the next stall was open. Therefore, some of us were assigned as "Restroom Attendants." We stood at the front of the line and when a stall opened up, we ushered the next sister into the stall.
Think that's the funny part? Sorry, no. The funny part was that for awhile we wore an attendant's badge under our name badge. It just said, "Attendant." Then, some brother decided that we were usurping the brothers' roles and changed the tag to "restroom." I loved walking around with my name tag with the label "restroom" under it!

PS Who remembers when the mirrors in the women's restrooms were covered over with brown paper to keep us from spending all that valuable time "primping?"
he's a gentleman and a scoundrel and really adds a lot to this place.

I love your insights and hope you keep posting. If that's too mushy, well, sorry. If someone seems to have more problems than we do...we're sorry for them...if they have less...we're jealous. Don't know what to do about that.

in memory of the people i personally know that died "in this system of things" that were waiting for the end in their lifetime.
these people were all a part of the congregations i grew up in.
they were told they would never grow old.. they did.. they were told they would never die.. they did that, too.. these people all died of old age, not some terrible disease.
Candidlynuts: Where do they say "millions now living MAY never die."?
Thanks,
Cate

when i joined the jw's, i remember an elder stating that when you do less than the average number of hours in your month, mark the reason why in the back of the service report sheet that you give at the end of each month.. did anybody else receive these instructions way back in the late 80's?
Yes, back when I was a regular pioneer.
