just to let everyone on here who knows my dad, that he is seriously ill, and unfortunately on life support.
he has renal and respiratory failure as a result of the quickest onset of pneumonia i have ever seen... it came on in the early hours of this morning.
he is waiting for an intensive care bed but the nearest one is 200 miles away.
I am so sorry. I found his writing fascinating and inspiring. My deepest sympathies.

I am so very, very sorry.

we were discussing joining groups and some of us have a revulsion for joining anything now, as i do and it reminded me of a quote from groucho...but in finding that quote i found these and they are hysterical!
a black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere.. groucho marx.
send someone to fetch a child of five.. groucho marx.
"You have beautiful eyes...well one anyway."
Re the contract debate, "You can't fool me; there's no sanity clause."
Love the Marx Brothers!

a friend of mine caused some distress to jws by talking to them about their reasons for going round knocking on doors.
the conversion went something like this: so you want me to convert.
if i do not convert, i will be damned when i die?
Blondie:
This is from the Public WT of April 1, 2008, "God's battle is directed solely against those humans whom God judges to be incorrigibly wicked."
A much softer message for the general public. Annoying.

truthseeker's topic on the recommended lodging list, and some of the experiences people have had, made me remember the rooming work we did before a convention that was held in our city many years ago.
we actually went door to door asking people if they had rooms they would be willing to let visiting witnesses stay in.
i don't remember anyone telling me, "yes," but i know there were people who signed up rooms.
Sorry Oompa!
Cate
In what sense please?

?....this just fluckkin sucks.................oompa.
A few years ago, a "sister" I knew lost her father. I said to her, out of sympathy, that it must be really hard to lose someone you love when we were were taught that we and ours would probably never die (unless we died early, and this was past the "expiration date"). Anyway, she said, "We were never told that!" I just goggled at her. By the way, this was another chink in my armor of acceptance of what I had always been told.

come on i know many of you did.. i used to volunteer because 1. my mum forced me as a kid, then 2. i wisend up to the fact i'd miss quite a bit of the session if i volunteered.. many hours were spent cleaning stadiums, the loos (vomit), picking up litter.
in the days when they served meals at the assemblies we peeled potatoes, chopped onions, cooked, served the food / cooldrinks.
took the tickets.
Kudra, Kudra, Kudra...me too...
I volunteered at every assembly and convention from before I was baptized until long after I quit pioneering. And I always wanted to work around the program so I wouldn't miss a single talk...which I always recorded in extensive notes. When I was old enough to attend more than one convention (because I could drive myself there), I would work whenever they wanted for one convention, and make up any talks I missed at the next.
I served food, made sandwiches, washed dishes, swept, cleaned restrooms...And felt privileged to be used.

Cheetos and Blondie: It was weird, but we did it. I think it must have been in the early 70s, before I graduated and was a pioneer. Perhaps I did as part of my "vacation pioneering." I cannot IMAGINE going to people now and requesting such a thing. I think I must have been...

i haven't seen this question posted here before, but did any of you who stayed at one of the hotels on the society's recommended lodging list save money than if you attended a hotel not on the list?.
having seen a few of these lists, it seems the rates given are expensive..
Quotes: I never knew about a "cash back" opportunity, but then I've never been involved in that industry. I wondered how a few free rooms could really be that big a deal. Learn something new every day. Thanks.
