for a long while i have been coming to this site on a daily basis and i think it is time to introduce myself.
here we go: my parents learned the truth when i was 4 and i don't have childhood memories of how life was before they converted.
i was a model jw child, although quite mischievous at school.
The things that eventually got to you are the same things that eventually got to me. I couldn't imagine going door-to-door saying, you know what I've been telling you for 30 years about the 1914 generation still being alive when the end comes...well, forget that. I know I said I could prove it from the Bible but, turns out I can't. Ha ha. Cough, cough.

One of the last straws for us was a brother in our hall who was pressuring, pressuring, pressuring our teenage children to get baptized. Even going behind our backs to talk to them about it. I tried the analogy that if they were too young to get married, and baptism is considered an even more important step to take, then they were too young for that. I tried pointing out that Jesus, our exemplar, didn't get baptized until he was 30. Nothing worked to stop this pressure.

You write well and I enjoy good writing. I would be interested in your essay. I don't know that I could help you with it, but I bet there are others here who would be willing to take the time and offer suggestions.
i was just going over this week's wt study and i found this paragraph (p. 6) that i found so mind boggling, that i want to share:.

Proving to yourself is a good idea. The problem is that, according to a KM from not too long ago (can't find it right now), the only publications you should use for research and the only ones you need are the WT publications.

the watchtower claims that jesus inspected the churches in 1919 and chose the watchtower to represent god on earth, based upon the spiritual food they were dispensing at that time.. .

Excellent thread. I have a question: I can hear my family reply that it doesn't matter WHAT they were teaching, what matters is that they were the only ones alert and looking forward to the establishment of God's kingdom. But I am sure there were other groups as well, such as the one that Russell was originally associated with. Does anyone have any documentation proving this, or do I have to do my own dashed research?

but it seems to me, that due to the new understandings a lot of friends are letting their guard down.possibly thinking, "well, if they change in doctrine once, who knows they might change again".
"Spirit directed" is meaningless. Either the holy spirit guides you--in which case you are doing as God directs and there should be no errors, or you are making a guess--in which case people shouldn't be punished for disagreeing with you.

Oh the pain this brings back! At school assemblies they always played the national anthem and I always sat through it. Burning up with the embarrassment of everyone looking at me.
A few years ago, before leaving the org but after I started thinking for myself, I decided it was absolutely ridiculous to say that if you are standing anyway, stay standing, but if you are sitting don't stand. I realized all standing is doing is showing respect. So I stood when it would be played at games, etc.

my boyfriend left today for a 17 day trip to johannesburg south africa as part of a charity group to help provide blankets and clothes to people in outlining areas, and give support for aids victims there..... this is the first time we have been apart since september, i miss him already but he is doing so much good and he has such a loving heart.
