Rock n Roll group blacklisted by JW's...+ question

anyone know what offspring song jw's were warned against listening to???
i vaguely remember it was on their 'smash' album (it's either the song that goes "..demons in my head.." or the one called genocide).

I distinctly remember a Sunday talk in the early 90's naming a list of bands that the society considered associated with demons. I can recall a few here:
GNR (Guns and Roses)
Montly Crue
Prince
Led Zepplen
Queen
Aerosmith
Black Sabbath
Pink Floyd
Alice Cooper
The DoorsThat was probably half of the list, I can recall the rest. I remember being shocked because I liked some of the bands mentioned. But, as a good JW, I got rid of all the "demonized" music in my collection. What a joke. I have since re-purchased most of those bands cd's since I left.
I also remember at an assembly around 1993 or 1994, a talk specifically mentioning Green Day, and how they were not music fit for JW's.

JW Display at the Mall
by saltiest inthis afternoon while wasting time at the promenade mall, in temecula, ca (southern cal) i had a hard time containing my laughter.
just in front of me were two women behind a table full of wbts literature.
what caught my eye was a young people ask sign.

i am a new poster who is putting off their own personal story of finding this site for a while..... i find alot of people here utterly fascinating, and would like to know..... exactly what is everyones professional field of work?.
i would like to be a full time poster on this forum, but alas, the $$$$ are quite light in that field of work.. apologies if this has been asked before.. just curious.

Any fitness gurus out there
by Leander inwell since i've made up my mind to take control of my life by leaving the borg i also want to get myself back in shape.
a few years ago i wass 6'1, about 205 (all muscle) with less than 10% bodyfat.
today lets just say that i need to get back into a serious workout regimine.. .

Yes, I am following Body For Life, and that is where I found the most helpful advice!
My brother is following Body for Life as well, and the results are good.
An important thing to remember is that any program you start must be a life-style change, or you will go back to the way you were before. That is why most diets do not work, you go on them and lose weight, then you go off of them and return to what you were doing before and presto!, you gain your weight back plus more.
It is true that you need to work your muscles in order to build them, cardio alone will not improve your muscles. When I gave the first advice, lifting weights was the integral part of it. Cardio is good for the heart and will help in your weight loss.
Good luck in everyone's aspirations! It feels great to improve your muscle and body tone, you have more energy and look great! I highly recommmend Body For Life.

Here are some hints that I have found very helpful. Yes, they work!!!!
~~~Exercize on an empty stomach, preferable first thing in the morning.
Doing intense aerobic exercize on an empty stomach for just 20 minutes first thing in the morning is more effective in burning fat than a FULL HOUR of exercize performed later after a few meals! Why? During the night, your blood sugar is naturally low and so are carb reserves. Exercizing BEFORE you eat causes the body to go right to your stored fat in order to get the energy it needs to perform the workout.
~~~Avoid fad diets like Atkins and similar...they do more harm than good. A well balanced diet is the best, not one that limits one or more food groups.
Do not overdo the carbs. (they are very necessary, so dont skip them at all!) Our bodies work thier best with a balance of protein and carbs. Protein is needed for building muscles and maintaining a strong immune system. Protein also helps stabilize insulin levels.~~~It is much better to eat 6 little meals instead of eating 2 or 3 big meals a day. Our ancestors actually were more "frequent feeders", not bingers like what we see today with the 3 square meals a day custom.
A portion size of a little meal is considered about the size of your fist.
When you eat every few hours, you will have more energy and have less cravings. Best of all, you will be maintaining a state that supports fat loss and muscle gain.~~~Working out TOO much can actually work against you. It is hard on the body and drains the mind. Short, intense periods of exercise make impressive physical results. More is not necesarily better.

No windows on Kingdom Halls?
by just_a_girl ini just read a post on another site i belong to (non-jw related) where a person asked if anyone knew why jws do not have windows on their kingdom halls.
a few other people responded saying that they had noticed the same thing, that they thought it was b/c the jws believe that windows are just an adornment, hence a distraction?.
in my 20+ years of being a jw and attending quick builds, i never noticed this ... it never even dawned on me ... and now that i try to think back, i can't remember there being any windows at the khs i attended?.

I think cost is the number one reason, but also the prevention of vandalism. In rural MN congregation, we always had vandalism, and why not? Jw's stand out in small towns. Jw's are different and those that stand out are often subject to reactions from others, including immature vandalism. Every time Halloween came on a meeting night, we all expected to get our cars and the hall egged. We even had brothers posted outdoors to watch and catch. There were many many times rocks were pelted at the windows. The immature troublemakers found our local congregation as a target, because we stood out. I know for a fact that it happens in other congregations as I have seen it as well.
Us individual witnesses were also targeted at our homes by being tp'd (toilet papered) and other antics from troublemakers. In a small town, everyone knew who all the witnesses were. I hated it, as I was so ashamed to be one anyway.
I think the lack of windows takes in all the various reasons that have been posted.
I do notice for the most part, that old halls have more windows than the ones that are new. There used to be some pretty nice (wonderfully distracting views) old halls with tons of floor to ceiling windows. I also noticed that the general congregation in the halls with the windows seemed more happier. More sunlight = more happy???? You be the judge!

My question would be this:
In the entire book of Revelation, why do JW's only believe that 144,000 is literal? JW's supposedly believe Revelation is presented in signs, so why is 144,000 basically the only thing they take literally?
My point would be to show how unreasonable it would be to pick and choose what is literal and what is not, especially only ONE instance in an entire book, with the exception of the advice to the congregations in the beginning.
