Birthdays
by 9thWonder ini have been df'd for over 3 years (for the third time... you know it's the charm).
i have an 8 year old who is being taught by my parents the same things that i was taught, including how we can't celebrate birthdays.
i have been doing a little research on the origin of worldly customs, such as weddings and birthdays only to find that there are many wedding customs that witnesses have adopted that have pegan origins.

I like your post mad max4 BIRTHDAYS MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE, theJW say only 2.
Birthday of Pharaoh, criminal was beheaded (Gen;40:20)
Birthday of Herod, J the Baptist was beheaded reluctantly (Matt; 14:6)
Birthday of Job's sons "held a banquet at the house of each one on his own day". (Job:1:4)
Birthday of Jesus. The birth of Christ, celebrated by the angles in song and glory. (luke 2:10-14)
The rules of the Watchtoer
To celebrate a Wedding and buy gifts? OK
To celebrate the birth of a child and buy gifts? OK
To celebrate the anniversary of a wedding and buy gifts? OK
To celebrate the anniversary of a birth? NO - PAGAN
I got this above info from www.uq.net.au
So tell your son if the angles in the Heaven can celebrate Jesus the Kings birthday and can get gifts, then yes it is right that you celebrate his Birthday as well.
Birthdays ...... them oh yeah....no beheading at our party.

I now know what it feels like.
by Es inhey all i used to read posts where people have found out they have lost loved ones and were never told about it nor the funeral.
last week my mum called me up and said "by the way sister such and such passed away last week the memorial was yesterday"!!!!
i used to be close to this sister and for those from australia might even had known her or heard of her sister isabelle sewell married to ted sewell, they have been living in bethel for over 10 years now.

Es,
I'm sorry for your loss of your dear friend. I feel that you can turn this experience around for you, by remembering the good times you shared with your friend.

S*its about to hit the fan with my in-laws
by pratt1 inbrief history:.
both my wife and i have faded from the borg for about 10 years.
we still maintain close relationhips with the dubs in our family on both sides.. my wife's sister has not only faded, but she has become an ordained minster, thus my mother in law calls her an "apostate" and refuses to have any contact with her.. her 4 year old daughter will stay with my family for about 2 weeks in august.

Pratt1,
It's really gonna come down to your decision to tell your wife how you feel about this matter...and even if you consider yourself an inlaw you're still part of the family.
Put yourself in your sister-in-law shoes and think, if I was in her position and my mother treated me like dirt would I want my daughter expose to her dogma and lies.
Encourage your wife to talk with her sister and get permission, for the grandmother to visit her granddaughter.
I wish your family well,

There were some good things about the organisation...
by Do I Stand Alone? ini have read a number of experiences in this discussion forum and quite frankly, i would have to agree that many, if not all, were pretty terrible experiences if not all together traumatic.
i know that my personal 9-11 tragedy resulted in finding out that the watchtower society was involved with the united nations.
that pretty much said it all as far as my "career" in the organisation was concerned.

DISA,
I am sure I will face a number of counter arguments regarding my viewpoint but that is the chance I am going to have to take.
You ask for it and you got your wish. To me your still in the WT mindset where you are still head strong and willing to make an argument to prove your point.

Reply on some good things in the organisation...
by Do I Stand Alone? inmy motivation was not to "recruit" for the watchtower society.
i thought i made it clear when i stated that i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses anymore and that i am on your side.
however, the impression i am getting is that no one is really understanding what i am getting at.

Welcome Do I Stand Alone,
However, the impression I am getting is that no one is really understanding what I am getting at.
reading your past threads struck a nerve on the JWD. everyone is entitle to their own opinion and
I really don't know what your selling but the only person you can change is yourself.

Name things that you discovered that you wouldn't do without anymore
by JH innow i only drive automatic transmission cars....because there is so much traffic and too many stop signs.
it becomes annoying.
i used to love driving manual transmissions, but no more.. the internet is one other thing that i wouldn't be able to do without.. how about you?.

gambling nothing feels good than winning a hand of blackjack... yup I usually tip the dealer when I win big.
also playing poker online...good way to practice
and never take for granted your manuel truck...because it might get stolen by some punks.
