i asked my dad that question and we've had a normal relationship ever since.

I don't believe jesus would do some thing like that, but i know that there is a statement in the bible that you have to love god more than you brother or sister or mother or father type of thing, but i dont believe the practices of the JW are validated by the that scripture in the bible

did the last days begin after jesus' death and continues today.
because i am starting to believe that.
i dont believe in 1914 or that israel becoming a nation started the last days as believed by many fundamentalist.
Now, for some time we have been in the last day. Just last week when I was at a confrence in Florida for Campus Crusade for Christ we had a speaker Rosenberg (i think?) He was talking on the signs of the last days and what is included below is an expanded version of what he spoke on during our meetings.
Let's prove the Bible is true and we are nearing the end of the last generation before Christ returns.
1. The Jewish people would be scattered worldwide; yet Israel would become a nation again after a long time and at a time the Bible calls the "latter days"-ref Isa 66:8; Mic 5:3; Ezek 38:8. Against what appeared to be impossible odds, this prophecy has been fulfilled. It happened as predicted on May 14, 1948 after about 2500 years. That?s 1 out of 1.

One of the biggest problems in public school was gum chewing. Those days are long gone. | ||
7. There would be weapons that could destroy the world-Mk 13:20; Rev 6:8; Rev 9:18; Zech 14:8,12. Incredibly, this prophecy was written in the days of spears and arrows, yet today it is true. That?s 7 out of 7.
Note: It is estimated that the combined nuclear arsenals of the and (as of the year 2004) could kill every living thing on earth 6 times over.
8. The Gospel must be published in all the world-Mk 13:10. This seemingly impossible prophecy was written when there was no printing press, but today it is true. That's 8 out of 8.
Note: In this last generation, to our knowledge, the Gospel is being published (or is about to be published) in the primary language of every nation of the world or "among all nations." In addition, the Gospel is available by short-wave radio nearly everywhere in the world.
9. In the "latter days" when Israel was once again a nation, there would be a great military power to the extreme north of Israel in the land of Magog (which is modern-day Russia)-Ezek 38:2-4,8,15,16. Incredible. That?s 9 out of 9.
Note: How could the Bible have foretold the location of this nation, facts about its military, and even the time period it would come to pass? As was already said in Lk 24:25-O FOOLS, AND SLOW OF HEART TO BELIEVE ALL THAT THE PROPHETS HAVE SPOKEN.
10. There would be a nation to the far east of , to the end of the earth. This nation would have an army of 200 million. This is astounding. How could the Bible have told the location of a nation and given such a huge figure regarding the size of its army nearly 2000 years ago? has boasted that they could field an army of this exact figure. That?s 10 out of 10.
11. There would be an economic alliance of the nations of the Old . It would have a military capability. This is an exact description of the today (the EEC), which has already adopted the one-currency system for many of their member nations. It is written, IN THE DAYS OF THESE KINGS (these nations, which is now) SHALL THE GOD OF HEAVEN SET UP A KINGDOM-Dan 2:44. That?s 11 out of 11. We have just reached the point that seemed impossible?11 perfect predictions made thousands of years ago?with God nothing is impossible. Certainly, at this point, even the biggest skeptic should see the Bible is true, there is a God, and we are nearing the time of the end.
About 22 prophecies in 11 sets have been given, all perfect and all written centuries ago. The chance that any person could do this 2000 years into the future is not possible. The Bible is the Word of God, and we have just proved it. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Repent and get baptized by full immersion. Read and obey the Gospel. God loves you. He is not willing that any should perish, yet many do. The Rapture is close. Most people are not ready and will not be taken. However, "YOU" cannot say you did not know. Know and understand, Mt 16:26-WHAT IS A MAN PROFITED, IF HE SHALL GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD, AND LOSE HIS OWN SOUL? OR WHAT SHALL A MAN GIVE IN EXCHANGE FOR HIS SOUL? i am going to conduct a little pseudoscientific experiment here.
my hope is to prove without a doubt that disfellowshipping causes more problems for the jw's than it solves.

I have never been in the group, but I had a dear friend in the group. She had invited me to join and learn more from the elders and stuff, but i figured i would research this stuff first. The BIGGEST reason I didn't join was because of the ever changing policy. With how many time things have changed, I couldn't see how it was in Jehovah's hands, because he is a never changing type and it made it hard.
Stuff I have found on the dsfing stuff:
Jehovah's Witnesses do disfellowship and shun people for:
o no longer claiming to be called a brother/sister.
o independent study and discussion of the Bible that brings Watchtower doctrine into question.
o possession of literature written by former members.
o having lunch with a former member, even if the former member professes to be a Christian and was not disfellowshipped for fornication, greed, idolotry, reviling, drunkeness, or extortion.
o attending a service of any other church or religious organization.
o authorizing a blood transfusion, even to save the life of a child.
o numerous other actions not mentioned in scripture, but deemed by the congregation elders to be "unclean conduct," or "conduct unbecoming" of a Jehovah's Witness. "Conduct" in this case covers a broad range of actions not clearly defined by the Society, leaving discernment about what is not acceptable to the discretion of the congregation's elders. As a result, standards by which people may be disfellowshiped are inconsistent throughout this religion which claims "unity" to be one of their identifying characteristics.

I had also found other sites and found personal testimonies about people being dsf and didn?t see that as being Christian. This is because Christ hung out with uncool and unclean people and didn?t dsf them.

who of us can remember the wts saying from the platform that we should'nt speculate about jehovahs wts purpose and what he or they intend.. what was this about and why?

In my studies of the old watchtowers, I came across on from 1988, where it directly said not to question what was done and just to do how they instructed. It also told JWs not to read information that is against their teachings. They are also told not to question the elders.
This, I guess, is a way to control the group. When questions aren't asked change can't happen in opposition to the questionable subject madders. I guess that is the way they've survived this long.
i know the jws try but imho they miss the mark because they do not all partake, as described in the bible, and they do not do the foot washing as commanded in those verses as well.
i am hard pressed to find a religion that actually does "do this in remembrance of me" as explained in the bible accounts by jesus.
does anyone know if there is a religion that tries to re-enact the event as it is described in the bible?
At the church I attend, we partake of the bread and wine just a christ told us to. the thursday before Good Friday is maunday thursday where we do this. we do it other times during the year to just to remember what christ did for us. we see the foot washing as part of the humbling ourselves before god and others at the service through pray and worship. I am with a church of god in OH.

i've noticed on this forum that a fair few ex-jw's still refer to the members of the non-christain cult known as the jehovah's witneses as christians.
im aware that current members may wrongly believe they are in fact christians because the organisation leads them to believe they are serving god.
but for ex-members who are awake to the false teachings of this non-christain organisation, i thought they may be more prudent in their choice of words, and not refer to them as christians.
well would the Latter day saints be christian... they believe that trusting in christ is the way to their interpretatation of heaven...or possible glorification (godhood).
If JW, SDA, LDS and all these other "christian cults" are christian, would that mean that it doesn't matter which one you go with and you take on the hindu point of view and serve which ever faithfully and in the next life hope for the best...hard to follow all these points a view.

Here is an example of how the New World Translation is incorrect:
The Jehovah's Witnesses teach their followers that the Bible teaches that Jesus is "a" god instead of God incarnate. They have mistranslated (either intentionally or unintentionally) John 1:1, which reads:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1 NKJV)
The typical Jehovah's Witness will tell you that the actual wording of John 1:1 reads:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god."
They claim that the definite article "a" is in the original Greek, and that Jesus is "a" god (little g) and not part of the triune Godhead of the Trinity.
Several problems arise right away. First, the original Greek does not insert the definite article "a" in the text.
Secondly, there is no "little g" in the Translation. Here is the original Greek writing along with the English translation, which most Jehovah's Witnesses refer to, yet still claim that an "a" and lower case g are present:

You've got to see the page in order to see get the translation from Greek to English. this page has some information about JW's, but I thought that the translation was neat.

I have done a little research on JWs, and now I am confused. The elder who gave the talk closed in prayer saying something to the effect of "in the name of Jesus Christ the Son of God". I thought JWs believed Jesus was a man or angel who became a man and that they did not believe He was the son of God. ... Also, he said the 144,000 would be the governing force over the rest of those here in Paradise on Earth. I thought 144,000 was the entire amount and no more. I really wanted to flip through my friend's Bible and see how it compared to my NIV Bible but that would have been very obvious. Any insights would be appreciated. I felt like this elder was saying what he did to make us "others" feel comfortable and that it was a lie. ?? I was listening very carefully, so I know I did not misunderstand. When we left my friend that I went with stated the same thing. What's up?? JW's pray in the name of christ because this is what the bible tell them to do, but they don't pray to christ, because that was never told for them to do. Jesus is God's son, but in terms of 1st angel type of thing. Mormon's had the thing with christ being a man who earned up to glorification (god-hood) JW believe that only 144,000 will be in heaven reigning with christ type of thing, but everyone has the opportunity for paradise. in order to be part of the 144000, you needed to be born before the 1935 point and several other factors and only those in the choosen group can take communion (actually eating the bread and wine) The bible thing, they interpret the bible wrong New World Translation. Some differences occur in John 1:1 where Christ is a god, not God. Colossians has several verses where they (society) inserted several "other" and different words. To check it out for yourself look at the JW website http://www.watchtower.org/bible/index.htm check it out for yourself. they are slick speakers. they have talented ways of speaking to people, but much of the translation differences in the NWT, have gramatical errors from greek to english. becareful and pray often!
it would seem that after 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975 that jw's would do as judge rutherford said and stop fixing dates but i was told they suggested other dates since 1975 failed prediction.
do any posters out there know of other dates suggested for armaggeddon that jw's claimed after 1975. i was talking to an elder the other day and he still insist that "apostates" started the 1975 rumor and some dedicated jw's fell for the rumor and that the wts never said 1975 was the end of the world.
he also claims that the wts only said that maybe the world would end but that they never said point blank that 1975 armaggeddon was arriving.

okay I cant give you any exact dates, but they are infering again the time is near for the end again. In the April 15 watchtower it says Here's what it says on page 4: 'According to the Bible the Creator will soon transform the earth into a literal paradise, which will favour long life. Bringing about that Paradise will invole drastick action, similar to that of the Flood of Noah's day. Matthew 24 B 37-39 shows that Jesus compared our time with the 'days of Noah', in which people ' took no note' of the critical situation. They also ignored the message that Noah preached. Then came 'the day that Noah entered into the ark' and the Flood destroyed all who had rejected his knowledge. Noah and those with him in the ark remained alive. Jesus indicated that a similar 'day' is coming in our time. Those heeding the knowledge associated with this even will have the propect of not only surviving but also living forever. In addition, the dead who are in God's memory will be raised to life with the propect of never having to die again. Notice how Jesus expressed these two thoughts. When speaking to Martha about the resurrection of the dead, he said: 'He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies will come to life; and everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all.' All evidence shows that this day is very near, which means that you may 'never die at all'. (bold added). now they didn't say it is a specif date, but come on they did this last time the only change is where they added a MAY instead of a definate kinda thing. i'm sure in the next bit they'll get a specific date.
