Calling all "unbelieving mates", AKA husbands and wives of cult members

hey all.

any who have been reading my recent posts, know that they chronicle my unsuccesful attempts to prevent my wife's baptism.. it is unfortunate and clear to me that there is nothing i can do untill i really understand the problem.

i am currently reading steven hassan's, releasing the bonds.

I once read about a man who had a closet that he cleaned out in his house. He put all of his "apostate" material in the closet. He then cleaned out an area of the house for his wife to put her JW publications. He showed her his closet area and told her that he in no uncertain terms did he want her to touch or look at his stuff and hw would NOT look at her stuff. It was his and she was NOT to touch it. The man then went to work. While he was at work his wife being the curious creature women are went to see what he had in his closet. Once she read through all of his stuff she decided she no longer wanted to go to any meetings again. I thought this was a great move. I am a woman and I KNOW I would have wanted to see what he was "hiding" from me.

Talked to a friend of mine...

over the last week i have been telling a longtime friend of mine from my hometown about what i found.

we were best friends all growing up and he had some real bad physical abuse probs in his house and so when he graduated he left the truth and has just recently started coming back.

he?s been studying off and on.

I'm not to sure on why they keep going other than the other responses but I have a few more ideas.

1- Once you reach the "top" you have alot of power and people love power. You figure there are what? 6 million people around the world waiting to see what you have to say. They all think that God is speaking through them and I'm sure that kind of power to them is awesome.

2- They are a multi million dollar corporation. The labor is free. In the past few months or so they have sold 2 properties that I have read about that equalled around 6 million dollars! Not to mention all the literature they sell. They also have millions tied up in stock. I'd keep it up too if I had that kind of cash flow. Actually I wouldn't beause I'm more honest then that but see how money and power can grab you?
