I am childless by choice. Maybe if I had found the right partner I would have felt differently. I was also petrified that there could be something wrong with the child.
There have been a few times I wondered if I made the right decision. I worry that there will be no one to care for me when I am old. Although this is no guarantee because some children are heartless and do not care for aged parents.
Sometimes I see babies who are so cute that you just stop and think.

How many of you are childfree by choice?
by rebel8 inby that, i mean you do not want to have children.. i have been told since birth it would not be safe for me to have children, so i never even considered it.
i never went through a grieving period because the concept of having babies was not something i once had and lost.
i always envisioned myself as a happy career woman.. i recently married and am still sure i don't want children.

A Common Dub Type?: The henpecked ubm who joins because of his nagging wife
by Check_Your_Premises ini have been around enough to recognize certain patterns in dub membership.
for instance there is a very common situation, where a dub gets df, marries a worldy promising never to return, has a kid, gets reinstated, and then we have to console some poor sob who shows up here trying to figure out what the hell just happened to his/her life.
i think i have isolated another common dub type; the weenie husband, whose wife joins, and then he joins too because his wife wears the pants and he does what he is told.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I always felt that some men who came into the truth did so because they were nagged to death. Another related reason is because they were invited everywhere and did a lot of socializing.
It is a case of the "if you can't beat them join them" mentality. But I always felt that with a few of them they really didn't deep down swallow it all but they kept their mouths shut. -

The New and Hidden Class Consciousness of Jehovah's Witnesses
by truthseeker inclass consciousness is defined as identification with other members of ones own class and awareness of its relationship with other classes.
a remarkable change has happened in the last ten years among jehovah's witnesses, and this is largely due to the way we communicate.. .
the internet has brought about huge social changes in the way we think, do business and research, and how we spend our free time.. .

There is another fact that you forgot. This group of people is growing as time goes on.
There is no point arguing about how many people there are. The point is that the number is growing. -

On the whole I would have to say they ranged from fair to middling. There was only one that I thought was bad years ago. And by bad I mean useless to me (maybe not to others).
I have seen that they are very touchy about criticism they get from the cong. and depending on how bad it is or how sensitive they are, sometimes they ultimately leave because of it. -

Swift:
I would not want to work in personnel because dealing with people is very tiring. I once had to "train" an office temp. Very trying. While it is true that some people don't tell the truth and don't have a professional attitude, the same is also true of many employers and agencies. What about hiring people under false pretenses? Misrepresenting what a job is really all about? I have had this happen to me. How about agencies sending you on an interview telling you a certain salary and when you get to the interview you find out the story is different?
It seems that now with a critical job market there is a very callous attitude towards job seekers. They think you will tolerate just about anything. -

Problems in paradise
by gringojj ini know there are a ton of problems with the idea of paradise.
i was just thinking about how much sense it doesnt make.
for example how is it supposed to work as far as housing arrangements?

I used to think of these scenarios too. In some ways their paradise seems like it could be a nightmare. If you are not really free, I don't see how it could be a paradise. It sounds like it would be something out of the new Outer Limits episodes. You know, something that starts out all spanking clean and orderly but soon degenerates into something horrible.
I know everything is speculation but nobody had any sensible answers. Just the "well, you have to be there and see" type of stupid answer. -

Watchtower Built Places of Refuge during WW2.
by VM44 ini have heard that the watchtower had built several "places of refuge" in the united states during world war 2.. there is very little information about this activity, as if the watchtower does not want people to know what they did.. one place of refuge later became the location of the watchtower farms, and the another became the gilead school.. still another was the house beth shan, located in san diego.. these places of refuge were mentioned during a public talk given around 1947, and recorded in a watchtower issue.
there was applause from the audience when it was mentioned that these places (along with rutherford's house, beth sarim) were being sold off, or otherwise disposed of.. does anyone have further information about these places?
it seems like this is a topic no one who was alive at the time wanted to talk about or mention so that future generations would know about it.

It wouldn't surprise me that they have places of refuge.
But you can bet your bottom dollar that these places of refuge would be like the president's bunker - only for a few select individuals.
Everybody else can, well....wait for the resurrection! -

With what you said about many having to wait for their reward after the big A:
I always felt that many who told others to do without or go without, never denied themselves. Just as you mentioned those who educated themselves who are decrying education for others, etc. On a similar note, I used to get angry when certain older women who had been married more than once and who were grandparents telling some young girl to stay single.
Here these people have had it all NOW and they expect to have it all AGAIN in the new system, all the while telling others to do without and to wait for their reward in never-never land!!! -

Are you more of a "Follower" or "Leader" type of person ?
by JH in.
let it be in groups, or just at home with your family, are you a leader or follower?.

I hate to say it but I am a loner so I don't fit into either category.
I think this bothered certain people there. Someone once said to me that "I don't need anybody". Well, that is not entirely true because we all "need" somebody sometime. (Hey doesn't this sound like the lines to somebody's song)? -

Philosophy - is it worth the bother?
by Abaddon ini fully admit to only having dabbled in the waters of philosophy up to now.
i kept on being put off by the smell... .
having said that, is there anyone more clued up than me about the subject who can tell me anything that might make me change my mind?.
-
LongHairGal
The good thing about studying philosophy is that it opened me up to other trains of thought that I never would have considered. But this doesn't mean that I am going to model my mind or my life after any of them.
In the end, you make your own philosophy.
