in the days of israel parents were instructed by jehovah to take such a rebel to the city fathers and they, in turn, took the incorrigible one out and stoned him to death.

there were no juvenile delinquents under such a system.

Good for them that they are not in the JW religion today.

I personally knew of two instances where Witness children were either told they had to leave home or their life was made so miserable that they were compelled to leave. Not sure if one or both had themselves legally emancipated. They both ended up fine.

This spoke volumes against the religion and made me grateful I was not raised in it. It just seemed to me back then that the religion was so arrogant and on its high horse. It just makes you wonder how many foolish JWs disowned their children years ago.👎

Now, they are old and imagining the religion is going to care for them. HA! What a delusion. The hateful religion’s answer to this is to tell them to look up these thirty+ years estranged kids for assistance!

Holding a grudge

i read something recently on reddit (not sure what thread) where a person related how some jw told them that ‘they hold a grudge’.. this reminded me of something an old jw acquaintance said to me some years back when i related my bad experience in the religion.. so, apparently, jehovah’s witnesses feel they should be forgiven for anything.

people should forget all about it and act like nothing happened and be charitable towards them, etc… when i read in james and ephesians i got the sense ‘holding a grudge’ was referring to the things average people do to offend each other.. i don’t see it applying to a religion that claimed to speak for god and who engendered hateful and unchristian attitudes towards people.. i know because i experienced this.. in addition, some people’s lives were damaged by listening to faulty teachings and interference in things that were clearly none of anybody’s business.. one case in point: them knocking worldly careers and now there are thousands of destitute jws in senior years with nothing.. then in 2023 the religion does away with a century old teaching about counting hours in the ministry.

meanwhile, i got judged over this.

i started doubting the organization when i was 15. i spent the next 12 years doing in-depth research involving numerous emails with bible scholars and scientists.

i finally left the organisation 3 years ago.

technically i was never actually a jw as i was never baptised, so i’m not being shunned.

Regarding that Cedar Point convention: I didn’t buy it either.

Even when I was ‘in’, I NEVER believed that anything that happened in the Jehovah’s Witness religion was the fulfillment of anything in the Bible.

I kept this to myself but I never believed it.

If they weren’t raised a Witness they might have some idea how things in the world work, but it would be extremely hard for an older person. If they were a sheltered born-in, they know next to nothing.

If any of them came from money, it might not matter because they have a cushion to land on.

I can’t stress enough how glad I am today I was not raised in the Witness religion. That fact may have saved me by keeping me grounded in reality!.. I was working full-time when the obedient ‘spiritual’ JWs were doing door to door, gossiping in car groups and feeling accepted and going on coffee breaks! .. Maybe some turned out okay and can pay their bills. Others are going to have to ask their ‘spiritual’ friends for help!

That is correct that the people who spread these urban legends cannot identify where they heard them and they carry these little bits in their heads for decades. Too bad it’s false hope or unattainable.

I could be wrong but I always suspected these rumors were started by COs because they are so evenly spread around!!!

This cannot be a coincidence. I believe this was done mostly in the past to encourage a certain way of thinking or some trend they would like to see in congregations.. Also, to give some kind of holy mystique to the JW religion that it does not deserve.. Then it becomes part of the ‘culture’ of the religion and supposedly nobody remembers where they heard these things.

These things may not be said from the platform but maybe in some social setting and then get repeated in the gossip mill. Just my opinion.

To be very blunt and honest, what the JWs offer is not truly a Bible study but a literature study of their publications - and their rules & regulations.

Back when I came in they had me ‘study’ from one of their little books. Their Bible was then used to look up selected scriptures to back up some point or teaching of theirs.

Members of congregation know it’s not true

we have lonely old folks and even some not so old.. they know the gb are not who they claim to be.. but they stay in the congregation because they are lonely.

i wonder what percentage of jws this is the case, i would guess a lot.

I still believe that there are many older JWs who would never leave.

Jesus could come riding in on a wrecking ball smashing through the walls! These older JWs are there because of the sunk cost fallacy and because of the social aspects of the religion. Even though this religion is absolutely devastating to some, others have a great life there and consider it ‘home’.

It was easy for me to leave (2001) because I wasn’t born-in and, thankfully, had no family there. I worked and was on the fringes of the congregation. So, it was easy for me to walk away. They only miss the ‘suckers’ they can materially benefit from - like if someone provided a free service or opened up their home and fed the Users there.. Anybody else they don’t care about except maybe a brother who had something going for him.

I have listened to Fran & Joe and admire them for speaking out publicly about what they went through and to also to show that somebody older can leave the JWs.

Yes, there was a bias against newbies from the ‘world’ 🙄. But, I think I got it bad because I was a single woman, I worked - plus they had issues about my figure! It might have been different if I came in with a husband. I would have been viewed totally different. But, it was what it was. Worse yet, I did not follow in the footsteps of other single women there. You know the type: did housecleaning and favors for all the Users and were on the fast track to pioneering.👎

When I rejected this path, I was on the shit list . But, because I worked full time and was tired I didn’t notice or care much. My weekends were taken up doing errands, dr appointments or getting my car serviced. Any idiots who thought a single person had more time didn’t know what the hell they were talking about. I was lucky I got a nights sleep.

But, when all is said and done, I am Glad today I stuck to my guns and ignored the fools.

I was raised Roman Catholic and remember the confessional with the priest. There is a priest behind a dark fabric screen seated in profile in a booth and you are kneeling in the dark on something cushioned and you talk to him from the other side of the screen. He does not know your identity.

Now contrast that with the Jehovah’s Witnesses: Some elder sees you and knows all about you and tells all the other elders about your ‘sins’. Then he ‘slips’ and mentions something to his wife who gets on the phone and tells whoever, etc. Nothing is confidential and eventually some people in the whole circuit will know about your private problem.

I also agree that nobody in their right mind should be confessing private sins like some moron to anybody. Remember that others are just as sinful as you are. I also believe that too many JW born-ins are infantalized by the religion and can’t think for themselves. As a person not raised a Witness I picked up on that!
