whatever happened to those who came back to jehovah?

due to slow growth and the constant scrutiny from governments like norway in relation to their harsh disfellowshipping practices,last year in a move that no one expected the watchtower for the first time extended an olive branch to all those who left the organization or were disfellowshipped in the past.considering this practice was introduced over 60 years ago and with a rough estimate that around 100,000 leave jehovah’s witnesses every year the total number is in the several millions.so we should have expected millions to have accepted this invitation and rejoined the organization, the result though was an abysmal few thousands according to a recent jw update.. so now, for the first time, the latest watchtower study magazine for april 2025 gives us an inside view on how this reintegration is coming along, and it doesn't look good!.

Thanks for telling it like it is.

In addition to all that, they’d be returning to an environment with many disappointed and sometimes desperate people! At least back when I left in around 2001 I didn’t sense this. It was a better environment in the hall with the ‘hope’ the new system was coming soon to save everybody.

Now all these years later with all the discarded teachings and everybody getting older? Forget it.

this information is supposed to be in the upcoming march wt.

(i don’t go on jw dot org).

it would sound like they are hinting at a change in thinking.. in my opinion, any such change would be yet another slap in the face to faithful pimis along with those other recent changes.. there are so many heartfelt responses on that thread and a lot of justified anger.. don’t know what to say except that i’m so glad i never listened to the religion all those years ago.

I am sure you are right that this is being said to ‘cover their tracks’ when disgruntled people point a finger in the future. I would hate to think this damaging policy would affect today’s younger generation of JWs when ‘old and grey’.. What a depressing thought.

I don’t know if anybody ever realized how far reaching and damaging this policy of no career/no decent job has been for Witnesses.

When I was in the religion there were people who weren’t even pioneers who lived on the edge who worked low paid or part time jobs because it was close to home and they ‘didn’t want to miss meetings’.. These people are now ‘needy’ in addition to the pioneers ‘who didn’t count the cost’ and people who got sent home from bethel.. This is far too many poor and needy people in one place (and a reason why I’m glad I’m not there).

This is all several generations of consequences of purposely not getting decent employment because people were led to believe the End was soon!

So, the religion will be targeting ‘Faders’? Interesting.

I wonder if they would want any fader women coming back who won’t do favors for all the Users there or give money/charity to hordes of JWs who never worked?? ..That would pose a problem since this is ultimately what it would be all about.. That fader should spare themselves the predictable aggravation.☺️ They should stay happily Out.

This is what I will say to any Witnesses who ever show up at my door.

i tend to keep my personal beliefs separate from my posts.. i know that is often different from others as their posts as often one and the same with their opinions.

i think that is good.

you get to learn a lot about people that way.

I know what you mean about your observations of Witnesses you knew from way back. Some have obviously not taken care of themselves physically and/or did not prepare financially for their senior years.

I would not want to be around any of these JWs now. In addition to not wanting them asking for $$👎.. I do not want to hear them bellyaching about how they wish this ‘old system’ was over.. I take one day at a time and enjoy simple things.. I don’t need Witnesses’ depressing/unhealthy thinking around me sapping whatever joy I might have.

You make some good points.

However, you just cannot substitute good intentions for maturity and experience.

Regardless of how much you hate the attitudes of certain men there of a certain age and wish they were ‘dead and buried’, an elder should be just that: an OLDER person.

It has been this way in all societies since the beginning of time.

Right now, my beliefs after leaving the Witnesses are pretty much agnostic.

For several years after I initially walked away from the religion, I still believed in the Bible. I might still ‘respect’ it and people who believe in it, but that’s about it.. One thing is for sure: I am happy to be out of the JWs.. After the shock of all those changed or discarded teachings at their 2023 annual meeting - I’m glad today in retirement I paid NO attention to their meddling years ago…especially regarding my employment!

Somehow I cannot help but see this appointment of young guys barely out of their teens as ending in failure.

I am long gone out of the Witness religion but I have to say I would never approach some youngster elder about anything. I wouldn’t even ask him what time it was. Back in the day I remember they had appointed somebody in their early 30s. Well, I certainly never went near that guy!

it began during the last annual meeting of 2014 and now is trikling down to their watchtower magazines, this new "live and let live" attitude towards people of other faiths, or as they were known as babylon the great soon to be dead in the hands of god members.but it is a new different story, so let's read paragraph 15 from study article 15:.

"jehovah is kind to both the righteous and the unrighteous.

I had heard about similar elders meetings where there was conflict and one egotistical guy hated another!

Years ago an older sister told me that some elders are like ‘little Hitlers’ (her words) and will not tolerate anybody disagreeing with them. She then gave the ‘imperfect men’ excuse that they all love to do.

i know as a jw i concluded several times that i was not brainwashed as i was not some unautonimous zombie and had not experienced anything akin to.... .

but in reality, brainwashing is a control of thought and ideas over a person and changing the way they think.

in normal life such sentences are not used, in fact they are highly discouraged... .

Yes, the Witnesses certainly are brainwashed.

The tactics you mentioned of ridicule, ostracism and guilt were used on me back in the day in order to get me to quit my full-time job and take up the ‘approved’ housecleaning and pioneering! ..I even had an over-righteous old lady insult me.

However, I could never bring myself to do this foolish thing which would have harmed me in the long run.. The JWs want people to sacrifice and do things detrimental to themselves in order to appease the congregation..The hell with that. I am so grateful all these years later that I never listened to a word they said.

a few on here (and of course many on the ex-jw reddit forum) have mentioned that wt hq just recently (like in the past couple months) put out a video warning against the praising of jw actors, taking photos with them, etc.

to not do it anymore.

I remember back in the days of Fred Franz. That’s when there was a ‘holy mystique’ about the governing body!

Even though I personally never thought these men were special in any way, other idiot Witnesses spoke about them like they were ‘saintly’. I let it all go in one ear and out the other.

I hear you about the ‘no apologies’ about discarded teachings. I also remember those types and anti-types and when the young die-hard JW pioneers were so proud of themselves that they could recite all this from memory. Me? I found it tedious! This was all back in the day when I worked and was that ‘low hour publisher’.🤣.. But, I’m so happy now I never paid any attention to their teachings.. It is also quite obvious that once that man ‘the Oracle’ departed, all the ideas disappeared.
