PO's son:
Yes, I also hated the over-use of the term "Agape". That was reserved for the "tough love" situations when they didn't really like someone but had to at least appear christian or humane.
Kind of like sliding food through a hole to the lion in the zoo. Makes you feel all warm and cozy.

Dubs putting smiley faces and scriptures on notes they send you.
by LongHairGal ini am not necessarily referring to the scriptures they quote in greeting cards.
although this is enough to make you barf because it makes the person sending it out to be so "spiritual" (whether they are or not) and also it makes a false impression that they love you (whether they do or not).
what i am really referring to is when one of them needs a favor from you and they send you a note and put a smiley face at the bottom and quote some scripture.

What I am really referring to is when one of them needs a favor from you and they send you a note and put a smiley face at the bottom and quote some scripture. It always made me angry inside. It presumes that I will do whatever they ask just "because". Now, generally I would be reasonable to any person regardless of whether they were a dub or not. But there is a flip side to this: if I didn't like the person or thought they were asking something outrageous I certainly would not. -

Is God hooked on human sacrifices?
by LongHairGal ini am not necessarily referring to the kind in the old testament when something or someone is burned on altar.
what i am referring to is our life in general.
is he only pleased with us when there is a dead body involved (namely ours)?

In other words, our death as a result of either not taking blood, not saluting the flag, not going to war, resisting rape, etc.
It is all rather sadistic I think. -

What's Jehovah's View on Having More Than One Wife???
by minimus inif god's original plan was to have just one husband and wife and not many wives or concubines, why did he "allow" it?
this never made any sense to me.
solomon was "allowed" to have innumerable women.

Supposedly he allowed it back in ancient times because of their bad attitude and also because he wanted his people to grow in number.
But it was only to be a temporary arrangement (whatever). -

employees from hell
by littlerockguy inhow many are managers/supervisors and have to deal with one or two employees who are complete and udder nightmares, i.e.
not staying in their desk, always behind, always a crisis and have to leave work, has a smart-ass attitude when counseling or cries when you tell them what they need to be doing?
i have one that my boss hired as soon as i was promoted and i have to manage that employee and my boss knew about this person was when they was hired!!

These are all very interesting stories. The sad fact is that most of us have to work. Unless you work for the government and your job has a "description" you probably work for private enterprise and they make up the rules as they go along. This is not good. Abuses of every kind creep in. You may get lucky but generally it is not a humane place to be nowadays. If you are a good worker you get taken advantage of unless you speak up for yourself. You will make some enemies along the way no matter what you do.
I have worked with dubs and "worldly" people. They can be equally bad. -

Live Like You Were Dying
by Scully inthis is a song - a very touching one, i might add - about how a man is diagnosed with a terminal illness and how it changes his life for the better.
this is the song that tim mcgraw wrote for his dad, former mlb player tug mcgraw.
so why am i posting about this song on a discussion board about being jehovah's witnesses and leaving jehovah's witnesses?

Scully:
I love that song. It almost brings tears to my eyes.
This issue is one of the most tragic things about the dubs. The fact that they tell you to squander your life chasing your tail now for something that may come in the future.
You should watch your life run out like sand in an hourglass till it's gone. And all for this future hope. It never made sense to me that a deity created us as physical beings and set the rules in opposition so that we shouldn't enjoy our physical life here on a physical earth! This never made sense to me. Oh I realize we have a spiritual nature too and that distinguishes us from the animals but that still doesn't justify this senseless waste.
Why is it not possible for us to be acceptable to god living our lives as the physical beings with a spiritual side, doing the things a physical being was created to do - all being in harmony with the rest of creation??? -

I don't know that I agree that everybody's beef is with people long gone. A lot of what I am hearing about are new things that have happened fairly recently. Certain people may be long gone but the same attitudes are carried on.

Are strict religions more succeseful?
by Gollum ininteresting article arguing that they are.
http://www.slate.com/id/2118313/ .
i think this argument makes a certain amount of sense.

Blondie:
Good points.
Also, is the religion based on a small group being looked up to by the masses? This really turns me off and it seems every religion ends up this way - even if it was not the original intention. Take christendom for example and every offshoot group including the dubs!
It is one of the evils of man that they want to set themselves over other people and oppress or enslave them. -

I love lily of the valley. I remember when I was a little girl and discovering them next to our garage. It seemed magical to me and the smell was heavenly! I really do love all flowers all but what I most love to see are hot pink azalea bushes (with the right shade of hot pink) and there is nothing like the smell of a honeysuckle bush (I think this may be later in the summer).
