I think you are right about people who come from bethel being not quite the same. I seemed to pick up on that. I also noticed that they usually moved away. Thinking about it now, I think the temptation to spill the beans may have been too strong possibly and they may have keep quiet out of a feeling of being "loyal" and not wanting to disillusion anybody.

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

I am an adult convert who is fading.
I am not ashamed that it may have been a mistake or that I was deceived. I got over most of my anger. Now I see it as another stop in my life's journey. After all, some people are trapped in a bad marriage if you want to look at it that way.
I am glad I had a normal childhood with the holidays, etc. And I work and didn't deny myself anything. -

Interesting comment by wife of branch committee member:
by acsot ini know this couple, and their good jw friend here at work just related it to me.
she was talking about one of the faithful old "brothers" who had recently passed away.
"sister husband's-high-up-in-the-organization mentioned that if armageddon doesn't come soon, the great crowd won't be "great" any longer, it'll be little, 'cause the older generation is all dying off.".

I am resentful because of their sneaky "bait and switch" tactics.
They quickly substituted a new teaching about hope in the resurrection and hope that nobody remembers or knows that they used to teach something else. Do they think we are all unconscious? Actually, they are their own worst enemy because they painted themselves into a corner.
I suppose the only people who will swallow this and aren't angry are new ones who don't know any better and who haven't invested any time.
I know I wasn't serving for a date but I would have made different plans for my life at least. -

I have worked around them and can tell you that they can be bad news. First of all, they lack education and that is bad. Secondly, they have a bad work ethic (they really don't believe in it but just tolerate it to pay bills). Third, they have no sense of loyalty to an employer (not in the least).
The third reason is probably the worst because it can cause trouble for an employer when a confidence is violated and the employer is open to a lawsuit. For example: a dub who worked in a hospital or doctor office and found out someone in their congregation had an abortion, etc. and they went and reported that person. They would have no compunctions about doing this because their organization wants them to do this. They are oblivious to consequences.
I wonder if a law were to be passed on this issue if it would stop this problem? -

Feeling really sad and worried
by Sad emo ini feel really sad and worried today.

I agree with you Mary two hundred percent !!!
I too am sick to death of all this political correctness that is literally killing us! I am ready to vomit on the floor if I hear one more well-meaning trite statement. (Of course terrorists are using our political correctness to carry out their evil deeds).
While I realize that not all muslims are bad or subversive, I cannot help but feel that some are guilty by association or tacit approval.
I am sorry to say that they are not a welcome sight to me. -

WT advice on "If Your Child is Abused"
by undercover instraight from the wt website.
to stop abuse, you must know it when you see it.
in the numerous books on the subject, experts have listed dozens of telltale signs of abuse that parents can watch for.

What a load of insulting nonsense!
If my child were abused by ANYBODY I would leap at the telephone and be calling 911 while I was hyperventilating!! I wouldn't need anybody to tell me anything. My reaction would be a common sense reaction to a horrible crime which is what this is!
If anybody wanted a fight I would give them one.

You are so right about everything you said but especially about all those books. I could never understand the need for all those damn books! Does everybody remember the scripture that says: "to the making of many books there is no end and too much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh". But I guess this scripture does not apply to THEIR books LOL! And never mind that the damn thing will be obsolete at some future date because of some blooper or changed teaching. It got to the point that when something was released at an assembly I didn't even bother to go out of my way to get it unless I was actually handed one as I was leaving.
What an insult to our intelligence to actually think we should get worked up like pavlov's dogs over yet another waste of paper! -

American Hiroshima?
by IronGland in**disclaimer** the following comes from worldnetdaily aka wingnutdaily.
washington as london recovers from the latest deadly al-qaida attack that killed at least 50, top u.s. government officials are contemplating what they consider to be an inevitable and much bigger assault on america one likely to kill millions, destroy the economy and fundamentally alter the course of history.. according to captured al-qaida leaders and documents, the plan is called the "american hiroshima" and involves the multiple detonation of nuclear weapons already smuggled into the u.s. over the mexican border with the help of the ms-13 street gang and other organized crime groups.
al-qaida has obtained at least 40 nuclear weapons from the former soviet union including suitcase nukes, nuclear mines, artillery shells and even some missile warheads.

Even if this is only partly true it is disturbing. After 9/11, it came out that our gov. knew much but did nothing. The part about the border not being secured really gets my goat. Many people are concerned about this. The part about the bunkers being built for government people is typical. They couldn't care less if the rest of us just evaporated, as long as their asses are saved!
If this ever came to pass it would be the end of our society as well as the islamic world. For surely the retaliation would be terrible! -

In regard to them teaching people how to brush their teeth: don't laugh. It may sound awful but some people come into the truth from very disadvantaged backgrounds or just plain bad habits (and I am talking about here in the U.S.) I have met more than one dub with funky bad breath and cheesy teeth. (Sorry to gross anybody out).
I remember being at a wedding years ago and being introduced to an attractive brother. Then he smiled. That was it for me. -

Apostates - blood on their hands?
by slimboyfat indon't you think the witness leaders would have given up the blood doctrine and 1914 by now had not apostates made such big things of them?
haven't they been painted into a bit of a corner where, if they tried to adjust things on blood now, everyone would come down on them like a ton of bricks?
if apostates were not so vigilant in watching the witnesses' every move, perhaps the governing body would have tried to drop the dubious doctrines by the back door, like so many others that they have discarded when they did not feel to closely watched (organ transplants, for example).

Flying High and Jeff:
I agree with you that they are afraid of lawsuits. But because of all the commotion, publicity and strong emotions on this particular subject we will never know what they may have done. I am also aware that the average dub is not aware of the rumblings about this.
Whether they make reforms or not, all the victories in the world won't bring back anybody who died over this.
