Yikes!
Boy am I glad I wasn't raised as a JW so I at least had a more "normal" introduction into it!

Becoming a woman...
by Rubyvixen ini remember when i was around the age of 10 or 11, there was a book that jehovah's witness parents used in family bible study that had two versions (one for male, one for females) or maybe there was one and it just had chapters and i am remembering wrong.
i do remember vividly having to endure the rather male dominated view of what happens when a young woman enters adolescence and what a young woman has to look forward to in her 'duties' as a loyal wife and mother serving her husband *gags*.
does anyone remember that?

I have heard of the expression "getting kicked upstairs" but that pertains to getting a promotion.
In Adam's case he got kicked out! -

Everything I Ever Needed To Know... I learned at the Kingdom Hall
by POs Son intoday my mother, a devoted jw of 40+ years, expalined to me that studying the watchtower publications "taught her" how to study!
she went on to describe how the weekly watchtower study taught her how to truly study, by underlining the most important part of the paragraph.
funny, i do not recall that as the primary method of study for the rest of the world - most of the textbooks i have read did not have a numbered set of questions at the end of each paragraph.

I hate to say it but my first impression when the WT was read and the question was asked reminded me of third grade reading comprehension! Very simple. Read the paragraph and answer the question as to what you read! What is sad is that I saw some grown men struggle with this.
I guess everybody's reading comprehension is not equal. -

women's intuition?
by onintwo inok, can someone, maybe women in general, tell me what this one is all about?
the dictionary seems to indicate it means "arriving at a conclusion without any reasoning".
what, just sort of a gut feeling?.

I believe in women's intuition. Sometimes men are clueless (but not always). In some fields, such as police work, men are trained to listen to their "gut" feelings - which is intuition.
Children have a keen sense of intuition because it is not clouded with social nonsense that is learned later.
Many times my intuition is right or very close. Years ago when I was active I mentioned to a sister that I knew that certain gossip came from a certain group of people. She said "do you have proof"? (In other words, I shouldn't think "ill" of anyone unless I have concrete proof dropped in my lap - like that will actually happen). I said "no but I will trust my instinct regardless of whether or not I have actual proof and I will act accordingly".
JWs are in the habit of dropping their guard because they think everybody is their "brother".
Society in general tries to get us to not listen to our inner voice. But I say to pay no attention to society. Listen to your gut or intuition. -

They do it for two reasons. One, because the "friends" want to be seen or just morbid curiosity; the other reason is they are checking up on the person to see if they are remaining "faithful" to the blood policy.

Serial Killing More Common Among White Boys
by Valis inyep that's right if you are a white boy you are most probably a serial killer, because richard ramirez and wayne williams were only flukes.
never you mind anyone on the planet could be a potential serial killer, all we know at this point is most of the ones we have caught are whiteys...see?
i told you so!.

Yes, it may appear that way but the recent snipers in DC changed that theory.
Besides, other races who love to keep repeating this fallacy usually have a murderer on every block. -

Nun confronts Hanks over 'Da Vinci Code'
by William Penwell inread this today on cnn.
the other night there was some catholic scholar referring to the book as being fiction.
i was confused as to whether he was referring to the "da vinci code" or the "bible"?
-

I know it is a piece of fiction and I have read both sides of the argument.
But if it were true and the early church fathers spun a fake story about Mary Magdalene this would change everything. Not that it matters to me but the whole church theology would be knocked into a cocked hat. -

Parents , please think before you unload on your kids
by kls ini constantly get calls from my son's exgirlfriend and it breaks my heart how her parents constantly unload their marital problems on her ,and her mom sits down and tells this girl about her mothers past and the grim life she had as a child .
the parents of this girl have fought as long as she can remember and always dragged this girl into their problems and it is affecting her every move in life.
i would never reveal to my kids what it was like when i was growing up ,yes they know some ,but only parts i think is not painful for then so i limit what i say.

This is so true!
I remember being about five years old and my mother was yelling about something and she spoke to me angrily like I was an adult! I felt guilty and confused and certainly could not help what was going on at the time (there were marital problems).
Parents should definitely not say certain things to and in front of children because it makes them feel very insecure. -

Ouija boards Do you feel they are real or not?Any personal experiences?
by Ticker ini've had several expereiences with ouija boards, some interesting, some disturbing, and as skeptical as i try to be i have to admit i have seen it personally say things and do things that i can not logically explain.
some say its your sub-conscience, some say its spirits, others say its demons.
i am just wondering if any of you have had experiences with the ouija board, what they were, and what you believe about them, supernatural or just another simple amusement?

Ticker:
When I was maybe a freshman or sophomore in high school, I became interested and got one because a girl in my high school was talking about it on the bus. I don't remember who bought it but we got one. I played with it with girlfriends asking the usual stupid questions like "what is the name of the man I am going to marry", etc. I also played with it with my sister when we were in the basement.
When I played with it with my sister in the basement the most creepy feelings came over both of us. The thing would just go off the board. And believe me neither of us was making it do that. I never wanted to use it again. Sometime after that it disappeared. My mother probably threw it out like she threw out other things she didn't like - such as some of my outfits!
I really do think it is supernatural and not to be messed with!
