  You are so right for putting into words what I always felt about them. They are rigid and unbending (whether they are right or wrong). Almost like the death grip. I feel it is partly because of arrogance that they are like this. As you know, they are all so godlike and therefore too good to ever be told they are wrong. In fact, they are right even if they are wrong! It is so funny that you say they earned it. Maybe all those experiences in WWII made them so hard that they will absolutely not change!

  No Jehovah Witnesses !!!

  around here, in my neighbourhood, there are many apartment buildings, and i remeber as a jw, how many people didn't want to be bothered by us jw's.. so, i took my camera this morning and went around in a few apartment buildings and took pictueres of all kinds of signs on doors, telling witnesses not to knock at their door, and go away !!!.

  on this first picture, it's quite polite.

  it says in french, no solicitor.

  In my area one person put up a crude written sign that indicated they didn't want to be disturbed by religious people going door to door. Well....the dubs in my cong. just ignored it!
  
  Many years ago I asked the question to the lady I studied with as to what we should do when people didn't want us to come around. She said: we must speak to them whether they hear or refrain because they are case of rebellion. She told me a story about how a man once told her in her younger years that he would run her down if he saw her on the street. So I guess she expected me to risk my life in the same way.
  
  Some years later around the time they came out with the info about how we should heed No Trespassing signs and how we are on our own if we do, I was going door to door on a dead end street with a stupid sister who didn't see a No Trespassing sign on somebody's property. (The property looked like some redneck lived there and they are the worst with regard to their property rights!! Very nasty.) So I grabbed her arm and said "No, don't you see the sign?" She said: "don't get excited". I told her we have to respect people's wishes and if something happened to her that would be her problem.

  You are absolutely right about them using the stupid dubs to learn English. Many years ago I had a return visit to a young Chinese family who didn't speak English very well. The woman used to read with me and she used to ask me if her English was better since the last time she saw me. I told her "yes".
  
  I knew full well she had no interest in the "Truth" but was just using us to better her English and in time they stopped.
  
  I on the other hand was using her to get my time in.

  i'm interested in how many here give to the homeless, or any kind of charity, since that was not a part of the witness experience.

  Dear Prophecor:
  
  I am glad to hear that you got yourself out of the predicament you were in. I just want to stress that I am not necessarily always a hard-hearted hannah and if I ever did help somebody it would be somebody who fell on hard times. But you know as well as I do that there is a proliferation of every type of person asking for handouts for every goddamn thing (especially here in NY). Believe me, I have seen it ALL! Years back I was on the shuttle to Grand Central in a car which was full of them! I felt like I was in a B-movie like Night of the Living Dead! Boy was I scared!
  
  The ones you describe who want to pump your gas might be described as aggressive panhandlers. They are more dangerous as far as I am concerned. You are a man however and could fight them off. But why should you have to? Suppose you just had enough money to pay for your gas!! This is unrelenting harrassment and nobody should have to face this every step of the way!!!
