1995 generation change

now, many years later, i remember the 1995 generation change, very well.. since early youth, hearing my father explaining in field service the 2520 years.

it was his main theme in the field.. with the change my doubts started.

with some jw friends we did not trust the organization anymore.

I agree with you that the Baby Boomers at least here in the US had a very favorable situation when they were young with regard to jobs and careers in comparison with today.. Now you’ve got college kids who can’t find a job.

Back then, a person could get a decent position with benefits even without college. I even heard of one or two high school dropouts who managed and are retired now!

The point being that JW Baby Boomers in too many instances threw away their chances for basic security in senior years with both hands ..daydreaming about the ‘new system’! And I am not talking about fabulous riches either:..I’m talking about basic Social Security and even a modest IRA or pension plan to live on. This is so scary to think about it makes me ill.

This is why I’m glad I resisted attempts by older hypocrites with cushy lives pushing poverty for young naive people.

Yes, it is certainly true there are JWs with the mentality that they can accumulate debt like the couple you mention. They figure Armageddon will come so they won’t need to worry about paying it.

But, isn’t this a repeat of what supposedly happened before the 1975 fiasco? History is repeating itself yet again. Except the couple you mention at least have a house they can keep refinancing with! So, at least somebody isn’t going around with an envelope asking money for THEM at least.

What about JWs who unwisely sold their homes and lived off the proceeds because they figured Armageddon would come before the money ran out and now they are broke? Also, what about those who dropped out of the workforce before retirement age to go live in some nice place or where the ‘need was greater’ and they ran out of money?? ..These are all in addition to the usual run-of-the-mill JWs in congregations who lived on the edge pioneering and didn’t plan for the future. I don’t even need to get into other JWs with serious ‘issues’ who may never have worked at all..but who were brought into the religion in recent decades.

There are entirely TOO MANY needy people in the JW religion..practically most of which put themselves in this position because they believed they didn’t need to work or plan for their future the way normal people in the world do..Somebody like me who was knocked for doing just that would have to be Out of My Mind to even want to be around these people and the self-made disaster they are in.

I do not consider myself an ‘anti-vaxxer’ but have not gotten this particular vaccine..not yet anyway.

I dearly hope to God for the sake of all the millions who have gotten these vaccines (including my relatives and friends)..that you are right in your opinion and that you can keep laughing at and being scornful of people who are afraid to get it..I really do hope you are right!

With regard to that CO you say was a ‘successful architect’ but was on the podium giving a Sunday talk about how ‘wrong’ higher education is: I would have also been shaking my head hearing this hypocrisy!

How many young people in the audience were influenced to pursue poverty listening to his hypocritical garbage? Hopefully this wasn’t too long ago and anybody who made the mistake of acting on this nonsense can rectify their error. Pity if this was many years ago and such people reached retirement age with little or no preparation. Somebody like this deserves to have needy people who listened to his advice on his doorstep asking for help.

I cannot stress enough that I despise these hypocritical JWs with cushy lives who preached poverty to ME. They tried to interfere and ruin my life back when I was younger. I can get down on my hands and knees in thankfulness that I NEVER listened to this nonsense or I would not be Retired today!

In my opinion, definitely one person and possibly another.

From what I observed, Holy Spirit had nothing to do with appointment of elders. In some cases, it seemed somebody wanted it like a political candidate running for office! Then, if there was a need and if there was no opposition from anybody ‘influential’...voila ..there was a new elder. Whether he turned out to be good or bad was anybody’s guess.

SOLOMON:

I am also struck by what I read or hear about elders who turn out to be rip-off artists of one sort or another.. I could not help but feel, sadly, that the JW religion (in general) has too many people who are very adept users. The question is: were they always like that OR did they learn they could get away with being like this?

I can honestly say I wanted No dealings with anybody there and that was back when I was pretty much a ‘believer’. Now..I’d run in the opposite direction!

It was a culmination of many things, but that 1995 changed teaching on Generation made me decide I had to get out of the JW religion.

I planned my ‘Fade’ and occupied myself going online and reading their hidden history. I uncovered a mountain of information that was shocking and validated my experiences. I also read ‘Crisis of Conscience’ which was a real eye opener.

My ‘Fade’ was made easier by the bad attitudes and unfriendliness I got from people in the religion because I had a full time job..But, it was worth it to be shunned by these idiots because I’m Retired now.

It was a breath of fresh air to finally be FREE and to pick up where I left off before I set foot in the hall and fell down a rabbit hole.. Good riddance!

I totally believe as you do and I made a comment about it on the thread about the GB.

Yes, the Baby Boomers and those still around from the generation before them are in the most vulnerable category targeted by Covid. These are the most loyal of the religion’s supporters and probably contribute the most $. If they all died suddenly in the pandemic there wouldn’t just be no more $ but I believe the religion would actually collapse!

I also believe the other reasons for the push to vaccinate are because they fear loss of control without in-person meetings. .Zoom can’t cut it forever and people can turn off their cameras and do other things or be in their pajamas. It’s also possible there is outside pressure on all organizations to get their people vaccinated..But I think the first reason is the REAL pressing one. Just my guess.

In reading your profile and the few posts here, you were in Bethel/farm only a few years. Am I right? If so, consider yourself fortunate (in spite of meeting cruel and unfair people) that you didn’t spend decades of your life there like other bethelites who got kicked out in their fifties because of downsizing..Can you imagine?

The story you relate about how the person above you is always ‘right’ even if they are wrong is something I heard before. Because of this there must be a high degree of inefficiency and mistakes at the bethels because somebody’s ego always needs to be placated and some subordinate person needs to learn their ‘place’..In the outside or Real world, this would be no way to run a business. No way could I have ever made it in that place!

I thought the same thing.

I believe they might be pushing the vaccine for a few reasons:..their best contributors and loyal supporters are Baby Boomers and a few older ones. These people are in the most vulnerable bracket..If they all died suddenly I believe the religion would be done pretty quickly..They probably know this is an eventuality..but they would rather it not happen all at once.

I also think they feel they are losing control without in-person meetings.. Zoom just isn’t cutting it over a long period of time. Somebody could just switch the camera off, etc. They don’t like that.

There is also the possibility that ‘pressure’ is being put on all organizations to comply with getting vaccinated.

What Congregation Scandal Still Troubles You?

i was appointed as a regular pioneer in a certain congregation.

in that congregation, a very obese male pioneer seduced a nice looking married pioneer sister who had two teenage sons.

her husband was a ms. both were df'd.

You are absolutely correct and if many on the forum evaluate their experiences, they would have to admit you are right.👍🏻 It is a fear-based religion with a bullying mentality, filled with gossip and vindictive people. All that togetherness is no good and that boatload of ‘friends’ can turn on a dime and rip somebody’s reputation to shreds and cause distress.

Like you, I also left after the 1995 thing. My personal experience was that I felt I walked a gauntlet of critics. They never liked me since I was an independent single working woman who couldn’t be manipulated.

Getting back to the original thought about scandals: without giving too much information I can say I saw things that didn’t sit well with me even if they were not headline making: favoritism and elders covering up for their kids…They think you are just supposed to shut up and pretend everything is rosy. If you don’t like something then it’s YOUR problem. Such phoniness. I could never be around this anymore. Glad the nightmare is over.
