"A Jehovah's Witness"

a very certain distinctive of jws is how they refer to themselves.

"one of jehovah's witnesses".

it's one of those coded jargon thingies.

Yeah, they are ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ alright.

The last of my former JW friends are in a news blackout. They know next to nothing about the CSA scandals or anything else in the news. They barely know what they are supposed to believe in. They think the new changes are great.

They believe the urban legends and false stories circulated in the religion. One of them even believes the religion has social programs with canned food to help the needy. I tried to explain that anything they heard of must have been organized by local JWs who paid for this out of their own pockets. They also think the religion has a ‘free’ rest home for the very elderly. 🤣They imagine they can plant themselves at some point on some bethel doorstep.

The whole thing is pathetic. If and when the religion sells off all the halls and they are left high and dry, they will be gobsmacked.

Holding a grudge

i read something recently on reddit (not sure what thread) where a person related how some jw told them that ‘they hold a grudge’.. this reminded me of something an old jw acquaintance said to me some years back when i related my bad experience in the religion.. so, apparently, jehovah’s witnesses feel they should be forgiven for anything.

people should forget all about it and act like nothing happened and be charitable towards them, etc… when i read in james and ephesians i got the sense ‘holding a grudge’ was referring to the things average people do to offend each other.. i don’t see it applying to a religion that claimed to speak for god and who engendered hateful and unchristian attitudes towards people.. i know because i experienced this.. in addition, some people’s lives were damaged by listening to faulty teachings and interference in things that were clearly none of anybody’s business.. one case in point: them knocking worldly careers and now there are thousands of destitute jws in senior years with nothing.. then in 2023 the religion does away with a century old teaching about counting hours in the ministry.

meanwhile, i got judged over this.

In addition to those robots having ‘no empathy’, everybody IGNORED the glaring hypocrisy that those who urged ME and other young people to pursue poverty were themselves living a cushy life! ..The attitude I picked up on was that MY life/welfare/future ‘did not matter’.. Was it because I was young and female? I think so.. Possibly one reason (besides pioneering) was those hypocrites imagined they would have smiling servant girls around to make everybody feel good.👎

Thank God for my non-JW upbringing. When I looked around the hall, I observed ALL the older people were collecting pensions (because of having been in the workforce) or they had a business!!! No poverty or sacrifice for them! .. But, yet they had NO problem telling ME and others to pursue poverty. Anybody who listened has a problem today.

Now that I’m retired and older, I see that just about all those older busybodies (elders and others) with cushy lives, etc. are mostly gone!!!.. Meanwhile, myself and others who got criticized for looking out for our own welfare are left feeling like we dodged a bullet, so to speak.. As for those younger pioneers back then who scoffed at me and got invited to special dinners (their reward) .. they can go ask somebody ELSE for money!

I know what you mean as I saw that hypocrisy and certain people there who thought they were ‘special’, etc. This mostly pertained to hurt feelings I think.

But, in my case, them intruding themselves into people’s lives by telling them what kind of employment they should pursue, goes beyond hurt feelings. It is people’s livelihood. If I were fool enough to have listened I might be destitute now. Would they help or support me? No.

So, in answering my ex-friend, I explained that the answer would be No if they came up to me asking for $. This is a direct consequence of the religion/members’ attitudes towards me and other responsible people who worked. This attitude is in the ‘culture’ there.

The Witnesses imagine the laws of ‘cause and effect’ do not apply to them. Well, I have news for them… They also believe in urban legends and false stories. There is, unfortunately, an air of make believe and unaccountability that runs through the whole religion. This is just one of the many reasons I’m Glad to be Out of there.. I would run from them now.

You have a very good idea of forgiveness from what you said and I agree with you.

i walked away from the JWs sometime in 2001 for several reasons including the 1995 Generation teaching… I did a ‘Fade’ and didn’t want any drama.. I just wanted to be done with it.. I was not raised a JW but came in as a working young adult.. They tried to pressure me to quit my job and take up housecleaning and pioneer. I refused so they made sure I was marginalized and not invited. I did make a few friends though.

In time, I retired and was very glad I kept that job. I had a conversation with one friend and stated that I would never tolerate being targeted to give money to JWs who never worked, etc.. This person was ‘offended’ and said I held a grudge. In this regard I do. They don’t get to do that.. Nobody has any business imagining they are going to target someone who got knocked for working. I explained it doesn’t work that way. Other than that, I’m polite to JWs. As I said, I wasn’t raised in it and have family and friends who are not in and never were.

In general, the religion cannot be forgiven for its policies and teachings - even those that never affected me.

What a stupid man you are describing that does not care about his children’s future. (Unless maybe he’s dropping a fortune on them when he passes away.)

Older hypocrites with cushy lives tried to ruin my life by pressuring me to quit my job to do housecleaning and pioneering.🙄 I refused. I resisted all the ‘spiritual’ brainwashing talk and nonsense.. But, I credit my non-JW upbringing with keeping me grounded in reality..

Believe me, it is worth every penny to have been shunned back then.. At least I was able to retire.

I once had an elder admit to me that “college educated brothers are harder to counsel”.

Also, you are right that the scriptures would appear to support education (‘being able to preach to all sorts of men’). You are also right that this stupid stand would cause young people to leave. Additionally, a highly educated person would have a better job and probably more money to contribute.

So, what’s going on here? It would appear that they really value people who are ignorant and unquestioning.. To be more to the point: unthinking. This makes me wonder what is in store for the average unsuspecting JW.😮 After watching some videos of “Life After Religion”, I’m beginning to understand.

Also, this man mentions them asking for money in a way he has never heard of.. In one of his videos I think he mentions it’s almost like Jerry Lewis (remember those telethons)?

He thinks it will become more so. He said that they are asking for things like ‘does anybody have an extra motor home..etc.’. This guy is afraid that JWs minds are being programmed to give in to any requests. He also mentions in one video about how the FEAR is ramped up for JWs with ‘go bags’ and their videos about persecution and the great trib and them fleeing into the woods or wherever and leaving their possessions behind, etc. [To me it sounded like it would be worse than what I read happened before 1975 with gullible JWs. I was not in the religion yet so I did not witness this.]

Again, this is what he believes is happening.. It might sound extreme but I would not be surprised if some of the more gullible JWs might do this.

I see what you mean, but what I get from this guy is that they want to keep whatever members they have online!

I watched a couple of other videos and this man thinks the Witness religion doesn’t care if older ones leave because they are considered ‘dead wood’.. This will be interesting to watch by those of us who are long Out of the religion.

If this happens, it will be devastating to whatever JWs are left.. They will be high & dry with just their laptops & internet connection.. Meanwhile, the religion will continue online. Imagine that? After all these people’s sacrifices! … Time will tell.
