I'd say it's damaging when any outward display of spirituality is confused with spirituality itself. People start focusing on that instead and judging others by it. As long as they sit in this building enough hours a week and use a bright enough highlighter on their magazine and turn in a piece of paper with a big enough number on it, they must be a good person. Bleh.

Can too many meetings be harmful to a person's spirituality?
by JH ini think so.. the watchtower wouldn't agree with me.
too much of anything is counter productive.. it's like eating a good meal, and 5 minutes later ordering the same plate.
you won't feel like eating because your full.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not required to go door-to-door
That's absolutely correct; they also have the option of being treated like a leper until their impending destruction at Armageddon by the Prince of Peace. In fact, they are reminded fairly frequently that this other option is always available to them.

The Watchtower and the UN--MY letters and Brochure--
by uninformed ini wrote the wt for a year before i was df'd over the wt-un/dpi-ngo deal.
i have all of my letters, the wt jerkoff letter back to me as well as a compilation of a simple little brochure, documenting that the wt was more involved with the un than for a library card.
if you would like to see and read it, i would like your feedback.

Following Memorial, he came by my house with another elder and asked what we did for memorial. My wife told them that we had our own. That was all they wanted to hear. Then they charged us with apostasy and disfellowshipped us basically for starting our own religion, I guess.
Nice. Whatever happened to " For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst" ?

I was always told that the bit in Deuteronomy about "one who binds others with a spell" is referring to hypnotism.

Materialised demons... why not?
by LtCmd.Lore inacctualy i don't believe in demons anymore.
but the recent bible teach study caused me to wonder... why does the society think that the demons are not capable of making bodies for themselves anymore, there was no support scripture so i looked it up on the wt library:.
in 1953 there was a questions from readers about why they posess people and animals... they simply stated without any proof that they are incapable of making bodies anymore.. then in 1955 they offer a scripture.. *** w55 10/1 p. 594 par.

I guess there's something even creepier about evil entities that are strictly invisible and non-material. They can always be there in the room with you, waiting, watching, jeering inaudibly at you and plotting to do horrendous things as soon as you switch off the light.

For years ourfranchisecongregation had a CO who used to do fun things like choose his favourite song at the end of the meeting and get all the sisters to sing the first verse, then the brothers would sing the second verse, then everyone together for the last one. Unusual, out of the ordinary. Everyone would be thinking "Hey, this guy is lots of fun."Then one year we got a new CO. Same song at the end! Same shtick with the singing!
That kind of spoiled it for me. Quirky and spontaneous? Nope, all scripted.

I've even heard born-again televangelists say "in the truth" when referring to members of their church.

Question about monthly hours, timesheets, etc.
by Alleymom incan anyone think offhand if there has been a thread about keeping hours, the timesheet, etc?
a friend has some questions, and since i was never a jw myself i am a little hazy on the actual procedure.
i figured this has probably been discussed many times before, so if anyone has a link to a previous thread, i would appreciate it.. does anyone have a scan of a timesheet?

If one does not witness, he is not one of Jehovah’s witnesses.
At the end of one Service Meeting, I remember hearing an elder go one step further by warning the congregation that they must hand in their service reports tonight "...because what if The End were to come tomorrow and you had forgotten to put in your report? Well then you wouldn't have been a publisher of the Good News this month, would you?"

The end is coming any day now...but 1st
by darth frosty ini love the way they say the end can come at anytime, but , these things must take place first.
1. great tribulation like nothing ever seen b4.
2. the authorities turning first on false religion and then directing their attention to gods people.

Realistically can anyone expect for all that stuff to happen in a short period of time?
No, but it will only take a couple of weeks for the announcement that they now realize most of these things took place invisibly or figuratively some years ago.
