I'm surprised they didn't point out the ghosts in Pacman and start hyperventilating about demonic occult imagery.

WT cautions against playing pac-man 1982 Awake
by EndofMysteries inwith bizarre names like pac-man, asteroids, space invaders, battlezone and donkey kong, video games have landed themselves not only in amusement arcades but also in corner drugstores, supermarkets, gas stations, fast-food parlors and nearly everywhere else that people congregate.
their beeps and booms and colorful lights have captured the fancy and imagination of a new generation of players to the point of obsession.. other than the obvious appeal to teenagers and its commercial success, the proliferation of arcade video games has triggered reactions ranging from strong parental protests to outright government bans.
in the philippines, president marcos officially banned the games and gave owners two weeks to destroy them.

Dubs - Paradoxes From Hell
by Farkel indubs - paradoxes from hell.
jesus said his yoke was kindly and light.. dubs brag their religion is the "hardest religion in the world.".
the bible tells children to honor their parents.. the wts tells children to betray their parents.. if dubs really live in a "spiritual paradise," why do their lives have to be threatened to stay in it?.

The Marks the WT is God's Only Org on Earth
by maputo95 inwith monotous regularity, my jw friend says the proof that the org is god's only divinely inspired org on earth is the fact that they go door to door.
how should i respond to this convuluted logic?.

You could point out that Jesus only ever said one thing about transferring from house to house, and that was don't do it.

Why is there a need for Ministry School presentations?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inwe were told that the preaching work was lead and guided by ''angels'' and the holy spirit.. if that is so,why the need for magazine presentations week after week?
why is a half hour spent showing each member what to say and how to respond to certain questions?
why practice presentations when the angels and holy spirit are there to help?.

With angels backing you up, you should be able to just Jedi mind-trick the householder - "These are the mags you are looking for..."

I have a relative who was PO of his congregation a few years ago and stepped down after he was caught shoplifting.
It's always a great feeling of Schadenfreude when these great spiritual pillars of the community are brought back down to earth a bit.

Trinity, Trinity, Trinity...
by Mazzie Brossmann incan anyone tell me if there are names for the different variations in trinitarian belief?
or could any one point me to anything explaining what different chritians subscribe to in thier belief of the trinity?
i have googled my fingers off trying to find out, but all i come up with is the "oneness" doctrine of the penticostals.

I wouldn't say I'm a believer in the Trinity, but I do find it an interesting concept to think about. It occurred to me recently that the whole "ransom sacrifice" thing actually makes a bit more sense in that context. If the Father and Son are two completely separate entities, you sort of think "WTF? How can a loving father send his son off to die like that?" But if Father and Son are manifestations of the same God, then it's a bit different - God paid the debt himself by sacrificing his own human nature. In that light it becomes a genuine act of love and not callousness.
Anyone else agree? Or do I just really need to get out more?

Are JWs Environmentalists?
by cameo-d inhas the coming population reduction at "the hand of god" ever been trumped up as a necessary thing for the health of the planet or as a positive environmental cleansing?
(rather than just as a judgement of wicked?).
i just wonder if wt uses those platforms to justify what could possibly be some kind of deliberate anihilation of a great many people.. will jws align with the agenda 21 program?
-

They sometimes bring up the scripture about how God wil "bring to ruin those who are ruining the Earth" with illustrations of atomic bombs, industrial pollution etc. So in that sense they do regard the annihilation of certain people as a positive thing for the planet (a position I'm not sure I disagree with, actually). But not so much as far as population reduction is concerned. They believe they themselves are going to repopulate the whole earth.

I never believed in demons
by drew sagan infor the entire time i was a jw (1999-2007) i never believed in demons.. a few times i remember this getting me into small confrontations with jws.
a jw would talk about how demons were scary and powerful.
i would argue that i've never seen a demon, and that to be affraid of such things was silly.
-

"demons would never appear to you because they know it would convince you to believe in god!"
The response I got was "Well of course they wouldn't bother you. You're already spiritually dead, so why would they bother when they've already got what they want?"

Was Jesus a hunchback, unibrowed dwarf?
by villabolo ini recall some time ago reading a book (i forgot the title) that stated that there was an early church tradition about jesus being deformed.
one source described him as being 3 cubits tall-41/2 feet (males at that time and region were on average 5'4"), hunchbacked, long face with a unibrow that made him look terrifying when he looked at you.. i was wondering if any of our scholars, leolaia or narkissos are familiar with this issue and perhaps enlighten us with some references.. villabolo.

So why did Judas have to betray him with a kiss, instead of just saying "He's the hunchbacked dwarf with the unibrow"?
