There's a new Smurfs movie in production right now. Might be interesting to see if they'll still freak out over it.

TV progams that must be not be viewed at all costs
by TooBad TooSad inthe elder giving the public talk a couple of weeks ago told the congregation that there are more and more.
movies and tv programs, like charmed, or books and movies like harry potter that must be avoided at all costs.
because they are a direct link to demonism and spiritism.

Could an active JW read this without blinking?
by besty ini'm not a big fan of huge ^c^v (cut and paste) posts but here goes..... i found this when i googled 'jehovahs witness landmark forum' - thats another post why i was doing that... http://www.ex-cult.org/general/identifying-a-cult takes about 3 minutes to read.... my question is 'could a jw read this and not even think 'is that us?''.
identifying a cult
there has been much confusion about cults and how to 'pickem'.

is this really a neutral text?
The author, Jan Groenveld, is a former member of both the Mormons and JWs, so this would have been written with them specifically in mind. For that reason alone, I would be quite hesitant to pass this article on to a JW. All they have to do is Google the author, and then they have an instant excuse not to consider the information.
It may be better to show them an article like this: www.exitsupportnetwork.com/artcls/lifton.htm - which contains similar information but with a completely different organization in mind (World Wide Church of God). They may be more inclined to examine the control tactics and see them in a negative light simply because another organization is doing it. But they won't be able to help noticing the similarities with their own. It's something of a dilemma - either the JWs are doing something bad, or another organization is doing something good. Either is unacceptable.

What if regular meeting attendance wasn't a requirement?
by R.F. inwe all know how regular meeting attendance is the ultimate way of measuring the "faith" of those among the religion, other than field service reports.
what do you think would happen with the attendance numbers if you were only encouraged to go as a sort of option, if you weren't hounded for not attending regularly?

What Scriptures prove that Joshua appreciated God's organization?
He was the leader of it. Leaders tend to appreciate the cooperation of their subjects. As the tithes were rolling in, I would also have been thinking "Yep, I sure do appreciate this organization".

I just stumped our PO!!!
by The Last Nephilim ini have never seen this guy stumped on a bible topic or point before, but history was made today!!!
he and a soon-to-be elder were doing a shepherding call on my wife and i because we've missed weeks worth of meetings and had no service time for dec. he went through the usual lectures about how we're cutting off jehovah by missing meetings (because we all know god won't lift a finger for those who don't go to meetings, right?
) he gave some good illustrations- the guy really is a good teacher, it's just what he's teaching that's questionable.

still no smiley under the subject line...
It's your browser. If you use Firefox, you'll only have a message box where you can type plain text. If you use Internet Explorer, you'll get an extra toolbar just below the subject line with all the formatting options, smileys, quote boxes, highlighting, etc.

However, if the funds provided by the Swiss Banks Settlement can symbolically or practically mitigate the human suffering of survivors or their families
This is just a hunch, but I suspect they will go with the "symbolically" option.

MP3 Recorders.... The're great...
by Paddington Bear ini have got some recordings of the judicial comitee hearings that i have been to over the past year.... it shows what a bunch of idiots they all really are.... if you want me to email them to you let me know... .
if you also know of any good software to shorten it tell me as one of them is too large and needs cutting down.....

If the recordings are in MP3 format, then MP3DirectCut (from http://mpesch3.de1.cc) is probably the best program for trimming them. It edits MP3 files directly without any recompression, so no sound quality is lost.

I am sooo stupid...we taught evolution?? What else don't I know?
by oompa ini asked my dad not too long ago.."just how many things do we have to be wrong about before you start to wonder if we really have the truth?
" he said he had kind of thought about that and we talked about whether being wrong about so many things in the past meant we were teaching falsehoods...just like we condemn every other religion of.
so i have really made him think about the sept km about only using wt literature (he had this part).

How about this: God deliberately made the Earth unsuitable for everlasting life prior to Adam's creation.
Golden Age, 31 December 1924:
Do not misconstrue the statement that the ground was cursed - disfavored - for Adam and Eve's sake. The earth was created especially for the human race, and the whole of its creative process was arranged to suit their creative process, their instruction, testing, training and disciplining to be free moral agents, every man a miniature king (in the earth) patterned after the great Ruler of the universe.
"The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's; but the earth hath he given to the children of men." - Psalm 115:16
The Lord timed the creation of Adam when the reactionary physical changes on the uncompleted planet would devitalize him, causing his death, eventually. In that sense, for his sake the ground was cursed, was made unfavorable.
This pre-arrangement, specially ordered in Adam's case, was a part of the great creative plan relatively just now beginning to be put into operation...
The problem that causes us to grow old and die, they go on to explain, is the earth's atmospheric conditions - most notably the unsuitably high levels of nitrogen.
