  i stopped all jw activity on june 12, 1996. my 18th birthday.

  i made arrangements to stay with some friends and they even lined me up a summer job.

  i snuck out in the middle of the night and left my parents a note.

  for a group that constantly bitches about people needing to accomadate it's beliefs and practices, jw's sure are inflexible and intolerant.

  i realize that we all already know that, but is of special irritation to me right now.

  my oldest sister, who is faded and now regularly attends a worldly church, is getting married.

  That's too bad that you are going through this. I hate to see family betray each other.

  HEHE I'm sure Jehovah would not want her to go to her daughters wedding. Out of all the things going on in the universe, I'm sure the Almighty is going to kick her out of the paradise (afterlife) for going to her own daughters wedding. Yet it was ok for Moses, David, Solomon,etc to be a politician, went to war, and ordered people to death.

  This is the kind of reasoning a jw has.

  The Money Is Drying Up In The Organization!

  my mother told me that the congregation has been pretty much begging for money for the local kingdom hall.

  after the presiding overseer expressed the state of debt and severe lack on contributions, he then asked the congregation to approve a resolution to send mor money to the society!!!

  i don't know how they are able to function.

  Wow, why don't they just pass the collection plate around?

  Does anyone know what the Society does with the profit?

  After books are paid, utilities, paychecks, food for bethel, shipping costs. Then what? What happens to the savings? Who has control over that? Does anyone use the money for personal use, property, etc,?

  question-- if a jw is disfellowshipped for having too much association with a non-witness- is this jw likely to be refused a reinstatement as long as he is associating with her-- and if so- will he be allowed to talk to her again to some degree after he is reinstated?

  Ok this makes sense now. It's not just that he was talking to you, it was for extra curricular activities.

  I know of a boy that was disfellowshipped for joining a football team at his school.

  So ya it can happen, I just think everyone was shocked because it seemed like a new reason to get disfellowshipped for.

  My congregation was disfellowshipped happy. They loved to disfellowship people. Yet the elders were cheating on thier wives and none of them were disfellowshipped. Makes you say Hmmmmmm......

  Obliteration of the ego

  at long last i feel i have come to a great spiritual truth: the human ego stands as an impediment towards self-realization and must be obliterated, or at least diminished.

  i have seen this as a running thread throughout many of the readings i have done -- from buddha and shankara to meister eckhart to arch-skeptic and atheist dr. albert ellis, the idea is to get beyond this concept of i. .

  We use this expression often, you know: "I just got lost doing..."

  Sometimes when I am reading or going to the beach, I lose track of time and forget that I am there in front of people. I get lost in the book or looking out onto the water and I forget about everything going on around me.

  My husband says that when he draws, it's like he's in his own little world and hours go by without knowing it.

  Is that what you are talking about?

  i finally went and did something i've always wanted to do growing up as a witness.

  i joined a karate class.. i go for my yellow belt test this weekend.

  i wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.

  i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!

  !....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??
