Wow, that conversation was so crazy. The jw's don't even see how bazaar their actions are. I guess that's why we call it a cult. Thanks for the thread. I haven't been around that crazy talk in such a long time and it helps refresh why I left and will never again go back. The light got brighter!

I think I remember reading something about this a long time ago. Apparently, the christian religion started out as a cult, when everyone at that time thought they were quacks. Then one of the emperors or kings of Rome decided to be christian and that everyone in his kingdom had to convert. Then of course Rome and Christianity spread through Europe, by force I may add. And later onto the New World. If that guy never converted it probably would have died out a long time ago. Hey... you got me thinking. A long time ago, one of the most populated cities in the world was mexico city, mx. How different would our life be if the Aztec's religion was the one that spread all over the world instead of christianity? Yikes!! I guess things could be worse.

The smart thing to do is finish school. It sounds like he has some growing up and soul searching to do. If he does decide to leave his religion you want to stay out of his way and let him make that decision on his own. If not, he'll only resent you for losing his religion, family, and friends. But if you grow apart during the time you are educating yourself than you will know that it was not meant to be and you'll be glad it didn't work out, down the road. love11

Do you sense "a sense of urgency" in the congregations?
by truthseeker innow that we're in the 21st century, and all those pre-millenium worries that a few had about armaggedon seem to have gone, everyone seems to be getting on with their lives, buying homes, going on cruises and planning for their retirement.. not everyone does these things, but there is so little talk about the great tribulation, armaggedon and the new system, you can't help but wonder if they are just going through the motions.. i see young people at the hall - they couldn't care less about spiritual things, although they may comment and go out in service.. i see people in the 30s quietly getting on with life - a few are building their own homes from scratch, others are planning on moving and some have bought new cars.. nothing wrong with this, but each of these things show an investment in the future.
a car has to be paid for (if its a lease), a home needs a 15/25/30 year mortgage and this all takes time.. time with a capital "t".. let's face it - the urgency is gone.
no one thinks about the "time of the end" and everyone does their own thing.. families are still having children.. one of my college professors once asked me: "how do you know that people have confidence in the future?".

When I think back on Thriller, Billy Jean, Bad; I want to think that this is just a ploy to get money from him.
But when you look at the kids and realize that they would have to be the biggest, best actors in the world to put on a stunt like this if they were lying, then it sinks in that ya' he probably touched them. If he is innocent then those kids are evil to do this to him. I don't think that is the case.

become a shrink who specializes in working with artists
Big Dog- My husband is an artist, so we thought your comment was particularly funny. I've also toyed around with the idea of writing a children's book and having my husband illustrate them. Hopefully, I live long enough to accomplish most of my goals.
Bren- Good point. I have been taking a class hear and there in college, but haven't had the courage to go in with guns-a- blazin'.
Also, I was in a major car accident and went through this phase when I thought I should only do what makes me happy because life is short and you never know when your on your way out. Trouble was, just because doing dishes and laundry won't make you happy, that doesn't mean you shouldn't do them. I call it my hippy phase. But I'm over that and I need to start living up to my potential now. I've been pondering student loans and it's a scary thing when you just became debt free. I think I just needed a push. It feels right to me deep inside. I guess I just need to trust myself and not settle for the easy road.
Thanks for everyone's post.

Meaning of Amen
by finnrot inwhen i was a kid my dad told me that when you said "amen" at the end of your prayer, that it meant "praise to jehovah".
i was listening to howard stern this morning and they were discussing the death of the pope, and they mentioned that his last word was "amen".
robin(the woman that does the news on the howard stern radio show) asked them what they thought that "amen" meant.

kls- My dad was raised as a Lutheran. Maybe he was mixing in both religious beliefs into my "molding". hahaha
I googled it- here ya' go:
Amen is derived from the root [aman], which means to be firm (i.e., permanent), and thus by implication, to be true or faithful. When we see the word Amen in scripture, it is indicating that which is truth, or said faithfully. www.mountainretreatorg.net/faq/amen.html - 12k
The word Amen is related to the the Hebrew word "Emunah" that means faith and/or belief. Therefore reciting Amen to a blessing or a prayer demonstrates a statement of affirmation that the blessing is true and hope that the prayer will be answered.www.geocities.com/buddychai/Religion/Amen.html - 6k
The word "amen" comes from a Hebrew root which in its various verbal forms can mean: to support, to be loyal, to be certain, and to place faith in. The cognate particle "amen" is commonly translated as "truly."[1] It is remarkable that this word is generally not translated in the (Greek) New Testament. The Greek speaking churches in the first century after Christ, appear to have been confronted with a Hebrew word that they could not easily translate.www.opc.org/OS/html/V7/4d.html - 19k
A·men The Egyptian god of life and reproduction, represented as a man with a ram's head. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=amen
Hey... it looks like everyone else has a different meaning for amen too!

Making contact with family
by Crumpet insome of you may know that my parents and whole family do not have any contact with me, apart from my dad who has provided his mobile number for "family business/emergencies".
i never try to contact them anymore after a negative experience after being beaten up trying to break up a streetfight last november when i called my dad and he hung up as soon as he realised it was me crying on the other end.. .
anyway - i decided that just because they want to forget about me i don't have to be the same anymore and i wanted them to know how happy i was.

Wow! How did someone as forgiving and loving as you, come out of those people?!!
Happy Birthday Don't let them make you feel bad about being happy that you were born.
If it's true what they say, judge how you want to be judged, than they are due for some bad karma. Stay away from those people. Even though I love my family very much, I had to let them go and find my own way in life. The most freeing feeling has been realizing that it is not me who has done anything wrong, but rather them. There is only so much you can do to mend things and then you have to stop, because they will treat you like a doormat if you don't get away from that rejection. Being proud of the type of person I have turned out to be has melted all of their evil viewpoints of who they thought I was. Hopefully you can find peace soon in knowing that you have done your best and if they don't appreciate their child for who she is, than they are the ones missing out on a happy family life. Alot of people on here told me that adopted family is the best kind of family. That is already proving true!!
