... I've heard of a new thought about "1914 the generation that will not pass away" that came out in 1994. What is everyone talking about?

What good bible wisdoms do you know?
by Bas ini'm not much of a bible expert myself so i was wondering what good bible/jesus wisdoms do you know?
things that can help you in daily life by keeping them in the back of your mind.
also i'm not looking for cliche's that everyone knows regardless if they ever opened the bible, more like philosophical wisdoms that even atheists should know.

I learned how to make out by reading the Song of Solomon.

Advantages to being a JW
by MGonzales ini'd say that the biggest advantage of being a jw is that you learn the bible.
growing up a jw (never baptized), i had many friends (mostly catholic) who didn't even know where most books of the bible were even located.
jws really do learn and study the bible and this knowledge becomes very helpful once you start looking at the bible more objectively and not with wts binders.

Ya... I could think of a better way to learn the bible. Like say... take a theology class in college or read it yourself with no one forcing you to.

Bible Study Burns Down the House...
by Sparkplug insomeone just mentioned 1978 and it reminded me that a bible study of my mothers burnt our house down while we were gone to the international convention in california.
she robbed us blind and then toasted our house.
do you think jehovah had a plan there and that we were being blessed for sitting something like 8 freaking days out in the sun in california?

I'm fine now...although it's taken me almost 30 years to get here. Isn't that something that they don't tell on child abusers? Who does that?!!!!!!! Well anyways... I'm glad we're both in a much better place. No help on their part I might add.

Ya... It's the Worldwide Church of God. It's a cult started by Rev. Armstrong.
One of my husband's co-workers was raised in that religion. Some of the stories he used to say sounded very similiar with what it's like to be raised as a jw. They are very apocalyptic in their teachings and hold to strict dietary laws. (no shellfish, no pork, etc,.)
One thing cults seem to have in common is control over your life. He told me that he would sneak to watch X-files because that was a holy day (sabbath). I remember sneaking to watch Smurfs! Did you know that they were demonic! hahaha

Spark- I'm so sorry to hear this. That's terrible having your home there one minute and the next minute completely gone.
My "being persecuted for Jehovah's sake" story is a little bit different. My father was very abusive and whenever he would beat us up badly my mom would say that this is Jehovah testing us to see how much we could bare. And whatever didn't kill us, made us stronger. She compared us to Job and Jesus. Crazy, I know!!!
Thank God, the universe, or just pure luck that you weren't in that house when that crazy woman was there. Who knows what she could have done to you!

I'm not sure a lawyer would be able to stop what is already taking place. However, I would think coming to your home and property threatening you with shunning might be grounds for harassment. A lawyer could guide you better on what are the best actions to take.
But something you said caught my attention. How did your wife know that this man (elder) cried? Are they close? Also, do these elders have any personal vendetta's against you that they may be acting out by disfellowshipping you? None of them are seeing or would like to see your ex?
I'm shocked it's taken them this long to disfellowship you. As a woman, if you even so much as turn the wrong way you get disfellowshipped. Wow! They must have really liked you. About the elder crying, it's just because he thinks that you are out of "god's organization" and is sad because you'll have no afterlife. (in his eyes) hahaha That's too bad that he is that brain washed, but what can you do. If all of your relatives are still a jw that means that they have control over your life whether you like it or not.
Getting out of that organization is the best thing for you and hopefully one day they will see the wisdom in your decision. I know the next coming years are going to be hard for you, but rest assured you are not the only one going through this. Good Luck in all of your endeavors starting your new life! Love
